So sorry your Sewing Bee moment didn’t happen, but it’s still brilliant that the producers had noticed your work: maybe they’ll come back to you for next year’s show (big Sewing Bee fan here, it made me realise that anyone can have a go at sewing). I’ve never been a fan of the confetti technique, but this collage style with organza is much more my thing. Love that cushion cover!
I love your birdie bag. I’d love to see a full video or pattern for that style bag. Even if it’s made from just a “boring” plain piece of fabrics. Of course scraps make It so much more fun. ✂️
I love your content so very much. Yt made you pop up on my thread just yesterday, (fun fact) after I watched Sewing Bee. Cannot wait for all your lovely input to come. Greetings from Germany
Just came across this video and is brilliant. A dressmaker at heart, I usually donate my scraps to local primary schools for collage etc but need to try this technique for myself. Added you to my subscribe list. Thank you for the inspiration.
I love doing collaging on clothing and bags. I'll also add buttons, beads, charms, braiding, embroidery and anything else that can be sewn and washed. I handsew mine but I love LOVE what you've done with your bags. Recycling is the best way to go 🤗xx
I feel like this would make a wonderful in-person workshop! You could have people make just the panels on the day, and then you would finish them for them? I’d join!! 💜
I really love the print you used for your shirt - adorable! I can't believe you were so close to being featured, it's still so cool and validating that you caught their eye.
Thank you for your wonderful videos! They get my creative flow going. I love your use of scraps as padding/wadding/batting. Keep these videos coming, Scarlett! From Australia 💞
Lovely to meet you. I enjoyed this video so much I subscribed to all. I like your calm way of talking. I have been a sewer and quilter for 4-5 decades and I have gone to a workshop where I learnt how to colour with fabric 'crumbs', using a very similar technique without the organza. I always RR&R and currently I'm doing that with paper, paint & ink to make journals. So I am going to pick your brain and experience for technique and inspiration to use up my fabrics by watching your videos. Thankyou so much for sharing, I'm impressed and inspired.
you are such a delight to watchI love your style. The top you are wearing is awesome! thanks for sharing your techniques....looking forward to your next video...
I am in awe of how creative you are, just love your vlogs could watch you for hours, unfortunately your not on for hours 😂 regards Diana who is well and truly old enough to be your grandmother 😂 from NZ ❤🎉❤🎉
This project is just darling! I'm watching you from the small town of Ennis, Texas. I found you here on RUclips just a couple weeks ago and I've enjoyed every video of yours I've seen. I love how much you enjoy recycling and upcycling. It's inspirational to say the least!
Oh my goodness- I’ve been making bags and wallets inspired by Carly B’s technique, and when I saw this video pop up I was like hey, she does it too, maybe its not a bad idea after all- and then you said she inspired you too! Thats so awesome, great minds! I looove your collage technique, and the idea of layering fabric scraps (ive been using felt or batting). I have to try it now!
So happy to see a new video. Loved the “malarkey” statement. It’s disappointing you didn’t get on, but sometimes we aren’t quite ready for full out fame and your time will come. I’m an old school seamstress, usually used patterns but I’m in the process of throwing caution to the wind and about to make a tea towel dress or tunic of my own. You have truly inspired this old dog to learn new tricks. Excited and nervous at the same time. Thanks for the lesson. I’m also an embroiderer. I think embroidering features on the bird or whatever the main element is would be lovely. I have too many WIPs in the works to do it now, but it’s in my project ideas for the future for sure. 👍🏻
What a lovely video and idea, Scarlett! Thanks for showing this in detail and the bird panel turned out wonderfully.❤ It is a very ressource saving and thoughtful way of using scraps (or unwanted/ugly fabrics). Need to start watching the sewing bee again. 😍 Loved the earlier ones and also the German version of the show we had for for about 3 seasons only or so. Regards from Germany Stephanie
Greetings from Ohio USA…..enjoy your scrap busting techniques…..often I make book and journal covers with layering scraps and using different machine designs around the pieces. I think tote bags would be popular for storing items and shopping with…… I’m making some to store yarns and quilting squares for my swing room. Last year I made scrappy gift bags using up many pieces. Good luck on your pattern class……I bet if you made tops for children they’d be a great Christmas or birthday gifts.
@@afrayed_upcycling 🤣😂 I would like to listen to your waffling…..last time music was too much for me and not needed, but only in my opinion. I feel SORRY if I hurted you with my comment. It seems so easy to make the upcycling collage things the way you explain it, but I bet it is much harder to sew. I love your videos
Love the bag and especially the waistcoat … I have used the confetti technique under tulle on parts of an art quilt called ‘still waters run deep’ but i haven’t tried collage under tulle or organza. I was gifted a vintage embroidered silk bird which I’ve been scared to use because it’s fragile - now I know what to do with it! I will tag you when I share what I’ve done 🌸😊
That's beautiful! What is the purpose of layering the fabric that will never be seen? Is it just instead of using batting? Reduce reuse and recycle? I would have a hard time wasting my scraps 🤣
It’s to give a quilted effect! I mean I have soooo many scraps so I don’t mind 😂 but if you want to use batting instead, you can! I have another video showing how to use the tiny overlocker/thread ends and wadding too ✨
First time watcher here. I love this technique. Have seen something with a similar idea but it was pieced and sewn before using the organza. Using scraps as the “filler” is bonus. I do like that guide but I’m not sure I can give up my good ol’ painter’s tape. One strip down, sew one line, move tape & butt it up against sew line, place the tape down and sew again etc. I like that for grids and straight quilting. Since I use painters tape in my painting and other crafts I always have it handy in 3 sizes. And the sticky is just enough to hold it but not enough to leave residue. Does not work well on extra fluffy quilts tho. Mind you I just looked up this gadget and it’s quite inexpensive so maybe I’ll have to try it. Good video & oh how I envy your organization lol!
Hi from Canada! I just found you and I am in love with you, your brain and your creativity! You just live in the moment and have awesome videos- just wanted to say hi and totally love collage and the freedom it brings! Cool technique sorry you missed out on the sewing bee, in Name currently have season 9 playing. I started a big quilt bag using a similar technique about 20 years ago using time instead of organza, you have inspired me to finish it.
Wow. It was so nice to see something new done with scraps. I like birds too and will definitely try your technique. By they way, in the video, it looked like to used more scraps than could be seen. Did you do that to make the quilted part thicker? If you only put on the fabric that shows, it would be easier to sew with, right? I like that gadget you showed us too to keep the lines straight. Thank you.
What you saw in the speeding up part if what I used, so about 3/4 layers of scraps ☺️ the organza line sewing is relatively easy, its the construction of the bag which is very hard 😂🙈

Hi,
Love your channel, found you on RUclips today.
I love seeing all sorts of stuff.
Do you need an industrial sewing machine for making a scrappy bag? 😍
Thank you! Nahh you can make the bags on any machine as long as you have a thick enough needle!
I love your channel ❤I’ve totally fallen in love with the dresses & everything you make. Where do you get your bag hardware?
Thank you so much!🥹🌸💜 annoyingly, the only company who does the right size are on Amazon only!

I love the vest idea. It looks so beautiful at that length. Do you have a pattern for the vest?
Not yet, I made it by adapting a pattern!
8 SECONDS AGOO AND LOVE THIS!!
Haha thank you!😂🙌
Love your videos, so inspiring! I wonder how you finish the raw edges on the inside of the bag? With a binding or just overlocking?
Just overlocking but you can definitely add binding to it! ☺️
I like the technique you demonstrated, it looks lovely. Can you tell me how durable the organza is when used as the top layer in this way? Really like your channel too.
So the organza I am using is a little thicker which helps with it’s durability! I have a bag that I made nearly 2 years ago and the organza is still looking good as new!☺️🌸

I’m very new to this form of sewing, can you explain what material you use for your base layer. Secondary where do you source organza. 🙏🏽
I used thick cotton, like curtain material essentially! Organza you can find anywhere, I look on Ebay mostly ☺️
Hi, I’m a beginner sewer (like very beginner). I want to make more projects but don’t know where to start.

Yes!☺️
I love your beautiful scrap projects!! Perhaps I'll figure out the answers on my own, but I'm curious if you think this would need interfacing if used for a bag that calls for interfacing? And do you think it would be a bad idea to mix knit and woven fabrics.

Also, I think using different materials is a great idea!
@@afrayed_upcycling excellent! Thanks so much for the response!
Love this! What is the reason you put so many scraps underneath, that you can't see?
It thickens the piece basically! Gives the more quilted effect that way ☺️

@@afrayed_upcycling Thank you so much, and thank you for your great videos ❤️
What is the purpose of the organza can we sew it without the organza
Just holds the scraps down better! You can do it without the organza, just stitch closer lines ☺️
😎
Did u give link to ebay bird scrap seller
In the description!☺️🙌
☺👏🙂
Shame about sewing bee why not contact the BBC and ask if they can link you on the sewing bee website? Worth asking I would say ❤
why so many layers of fabric on the base? isn't that a waste in itself?
I think it depends on the way you look at it! I have sooo many scraps, so if it means being able to use it in a product rather than stuffed in a cushion, I prefer that ☺️
Re-purpose
Isn’t repurposing and upcycling the same definition? Honestly didn’t know there was a difference?
Lovely projects! Too much camera movement, though.
