  • Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoy these ideas for using up scrap fabrics. Liberty tana lawn is a fine fabric that lets the light shine through so it is perfect for decoupage and collage. I also love making EPP hexagons from my scraps and yo-yos are so fun too!

    As a teenager my mom had a huge box of scraps from the years sewing projects. We didn’t have much money to spend on Christmas gifts that year and it was only 2 months away. I had an idea, take scraps and make patchwork teddy bears for everyone. We had such a great time together. We found things for accessories to make each one unique for each person. Everyone loved them. I’m 54 now and my mom has Alzheimer’s disease but she still remembers the bears and that we made them together. It always brings such joy to our hearts when we reminisce about that Christmas. And the bears, well several are still being passed down from generation to generation in the family.

      Oh what a beautiful story, thank you for sharing that with me. It just shows how important making things by hand is, and that the most meaningful gifts don’t have to cost the earth, it’s the thought and time that matters 🌸

      I started to sew at age 58. And that’s exactly the reason I wanted to learn to sew. I wanted to make something for my mom who is quite ill now. As well as other people that I love. It’s so easy to just buy a gift card or something from Amazon that yeah they’ll like. But I wanted to make something for my people that came from my heart. As I am learning, I am finding that sewing is so much more than putting fabric together with thread. Thank you for sharing your story. ❤

    Thanks for ideas Emma. I saw the tealight holder idea on your Instagram page and was kicking myself as i had been doing some EPP a few days beforehand and had thrown away the very small scraps that would have been fine for this 🙄. I used to save every scrap but last year started to discard the ones i didn't think i would ever use should have known better. 😊

    Thank you for these nice ideas, Emma. I was particularly struck by your use of that food wrap to trap scraps and frame them up - really effective!
    Oooh, I was going to use my tiny triangles left from EPP hexagons to collage a faded box... But now I hope I have enough to make some tea light jars as well! 😍💡

    The jars are so different. I like them. Wow the heart is also great. You really are clever, I have never seen these yo-yos you mention , where do you get them from, or is it just how you fold them. I know I say this every time, but I wish I could be as clever as you at making things.
    Thank you for today, take care.

Thank you so much 💖

    By free motioning over those coasters, you blended all the fabrics together to make a new fabric - they turned out great🤩. If you aren't keen on the felt ones and if you can be bothered, you could unpick the top stitching, trim the felt to just a smidgeon bigger than the size of the top and finish the edge with ric-rac, catching the felt underneath, perhaps? Wondering about this has made me want to try... 😅 If I do get around to making any, I'll let you know if the idea works🥰

    Warning about the jar idea, not all glass is suitable for candles, even tea lights, if a glass that isn't heat safe is used it can explode, be careful.

    • @emmajonesvintagesewingbox
      @emmajonesvintagesewingbox  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I used LED tea lights which don’t give off any heat at all, to be extra safe 😊
