Dear sewing Friends, if I am talking too fast for you in this video - you can always watch it at 0.75 speed. If you're not sure how to do it - just google it, it will shows you where to click :) and yes, the phrase of the day is "play around", lol, I guess my mind really took liking to it in this video :)
Some southerners do not speak slowly. I am one of them. Some do not notice my accent because my oldest sister worked with me when I was young on how to speak. I can “twang” if I want to play.
I'm in the process of upcycling my wardrobe to things I more likely to wear. This has been very helpful, as I consider most of my clothes as "scrap fabric".
Good tips! I for one love to use fabric scraps for bias tape and linings, facings, etc. It is just fun to look down and see the edge of some neat fabric peaking out at the pocket!
These are excellent tips! I learned how to sew by using my grandmothers scraps from her sewing projects. This brings back SEW many memories of learning how to combine different fibers into one cohesive garment. Nice work!😊👍🏾
Prewashing all your fabric is so key. I also use the smaller seam allowance and I normally make seams that look like a shirttail hem but with two pieces of fabric.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I wish I could find the same mix as a linen/spandex I found years ago! It doesn’t wrinkle as much as 100% and it was cross woven red/orange and looks stunning.
Great video as always. I love all your tips. You are very creative My favourite way of using jersey remnants is to make underwear, handmade undies are so comfy;)
You can also use your fabric scraps to make a patch work pillow. Use your fabric scraps to make a quilt. Use your scraps to make a wreath. You can your scraps to so much
Thank you! 😊I am not sure if you have seen it, but there is a full video with multiple blouses using that colorblocking style and Members extra for it as well :) ruclips.net/video/Y1h3_TG2J-U/видео.html
That is so great to hear! I feel that once you give your brain and your creativity a little taste of scrap fabric fun - you keep coming back with more and more ideas! :)
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you take us all through the minefield of different scrap fabrics. I found this very very useful and helpful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Hi Elisa, I’ve been checking out many channels to get back into my sewing creativity side. I really admire, enjoy your channel. Especially admire how you’ve self taught your craft! What a blessing! I just stumbled on your video on the fundraiser-Dress a girl-around-the-World was most impressed! So much that I’ve decided, God willing , to also contribute to this community cause this year. Thanks for sharing ❤️ May God Bless you 🙏🏼🥰
I am an accidental seamstress for 17 or 18 years now, hard to believe it'sbeen that long and I have long ago lost count of the garments and people I've helped. I do mostly alterations for friends and acquaintances of my daughter's and their friends and families, often time in emergencies and trying financial situations and I would always recommend the larger seam allowances because that gives you an alternative where the small seam allowances don't give you any. I've had to cringe a few times when I have had to use material from the hem of a bridesmaid's gowns to add strips down the torso or bodice for the dress to fit when there was no time or money or alternative. It worked, they were beautiful, most people didn't notice or thought it was intentional but I knew. It was still better then having them pass out from lack of oxygen or the seam or zipper rip spilling them out in the middle of the ceremony and them being completely embarrassed but I think you can always do something with to much but you can't with to little, lol I take that same approach to cooking too! I love your videos and adore your voice, enthusiasm, and inspiring artistic creativity. I'm learning a lot from your videos and I very much appreciate it! I live in Kentucky, I'm country so that's close enough distance in my opinion to say hi neighbor!!!!
Kris, hello there! Thank you for sharing your insight and amazing experience :) thank you for doing what you do, I am sure all of these people were happy to have your help! I think it is totally great to have different opinions on the topic, at the end of the day - there are so so many ways how to go about things in sewing and I can totally see your reasoning. In my case - I never had any problems with smaller seam allowances, I LOVE using smaller seam allowance as it gives such neat results, especially in curves and setting in sleeves, but then again I don't alter for other people and I don't fluctuate in weight. People juts have to find what works for them :) and yes - hi, neighbor! :)
Thank you for your very helpful tips. I am totally inspired by watching your videos. You have such a fabulous way of explaining things and helping us to think more creatively and outside the box ❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you sooooo much ❤❤❤ you inspire me 🥰wish I could give you a big hug. You are amazing!!! Have a beautiful wonderful creative day ❤
I think if you tend to stick to a color palette when you sew (or buy rtw) you already have a leg up on using scraps. I learned a long time ago that no matter how cute the design, if I wouldn't wear it in a rtw garment, I won't wear it in a me made garment. I save those for gifts or home decor items.
Thank you for this video. I have so many scraps to work with. Maybe you can do a video on how to incorporate different fabrics into a garment using the pattern like that shirt you made with th yellow and white. You must have cut the pattern a bit.
I want to make a skirt for a friend. Can I place a old skirt on the fabric, then move the skirt over so that the other side ( backside) is figured in. And then just have an elastic waistband and one seam in the back. Do you think this will work? Thank you for your great videos.
Janice, how did I just only now see this comment come in??? I am so sorry! As for your question - yes you can! You can have a skirt with one seam and even with no seams (circle skirt). This should definitely work, juts news to think about "connecting and elimination" of the side seam and a smooth transition there. I have done pencil skirt with only one center back seam.
Hey do you have a video on how to exactly draft a jacket pattern I never sewed before and want to get into it but I’m 100% clueless don’t even know where to begin with anything like the stuff I need to start off the correct affordable sewing machine and all that
I do have videos on jackets, but if you are brand new to sewing - first, you have to practice with your sewing machine, and make a small project to at least get the hang of it. I have a ton of video about choosing fabric, tools and etc. Just go to my channel and take a look :)
Dear Alisa! Your tips are great 👍 I have a guestion: what does the RUclips plate stands fof? 🤔 So small, that I can not read it... 🙄😳 Greetings from across the ocean... 😊
There have been so many scammers trying to impersonate me - do not give ANY information, DO NOT text them, don't click on any suspicious links. I would never ask for your personal information, I don't have ANY current giveaways! Also, check for my name - scammers can often steal my profile picture, but their name is different. Is it my channel name? Does it have the little "tick mark" (verified channel) next to it? If the answer is "no" to both - then report them! Please, STAY SAFE on the internet!

😃I always speed up those Southern Moms videos. Yours are just right for me.
Your talking speed is perfect! Great tips!
Your talking is just fine! I love your voice and your enthusiasm and smiles motivates me and lifts up my moods!

Your talking speed is fine! I'm not even a native speaker and I have no issues whatsoever understanding you 😊
Just as I'm convincing myself to let go of scraps and become a minimalist sewist, this awesome video comes along lol 😂
The same here. I got all my scraps out, had a look and then went online and ordered more fabric! But, I do have plans for the scarps!! :)
I’m originally from Brooklyn…..your talking speed is just fine!
All those tiny scraps i use to make 'fabric washi tape' using double sided tape. Funky to use when wrapping gifts or embelush a card.
Great video! Now I will go play with my scraps.
Have fun! :) I feel that sometimes when we work with fabric scraps it can open different creative doors for us
That sweater and lace top is gorgeous!
I really love it too, I have a full video that shows how it was made :)
Sewing a garment with scraps makes it free right😂 I mean otherwise it’s just waste. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.
I'm in the process of upcycling my wardrobe to things I more likely to wear. This has been very helpful, as I consider most of my clothes as "scrap fabric".
How fun! I am in the same space as you - upcycling my wardrobe, it is fun and I love that I can give my clothes second life! Thank you for sharing!

I watch most sewing videos at 1.5 speed. I watch yours at 1.25. Don’t change! You’re doing great!!!
Such a good idea. I never thought about using scraps for pocket lining.

I have noticed that some will use fabric scraps to make a tote bag. I really like that look.
Very helpful and knowledgeable tips. Thank you so much; I’ve learned so much😀
Thank you so much! I’ve been really enjoying your videos especially the ones about fabric scraps!😊 Can’t wait till next week!
Great video. Thank you. I will save this one as you've shared some really useful tips. Mx PS. not too fast at all. 😀
Linen for the win! That’s my favorite fabric to sew and wear. I’m debating using some scraps to make a hood for one of my polarfleece gowns.
For sure, Kat! I love linen, sometimes linen blends a bit more as they crease less :) but it is a wonderful fabric!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I wish I could find the same mix as a linen/spandex I found years ago! It doesn’t wrinkle as much as 100% and it was cross woven red/orange and looks stunning.

You just need a larger seam allowance for those seams that will be done with French Seam techniques.
