As a new member, I can say that it is well worth the small price for membership! There are so many "extra helpers" to aid you on your sewing journey. I keep finding new things and thinking a little "yay!" My mom left me piles of fabrics. I can't wait to try out some of your ideas to use and enjoy them. I'm making some cat coasters, from one of your earlier projects, for my SIL's birthday later on today. I'm going to use some of her pieces for them. I'm so excited and inspired. Thank you.
Pam, thank you so much! I truly do hope that It helps and provides extra insight and more details, too! I am sure your SIL will love the coaster and use them as well!
Here in NZ, we got A LOT of charity shops! Often, you can pick up a shopping bag full of t-shirts and jerseys for a couple of dollars or three. That's where I get my jersey fabrics from. I especially like men's 6XL 😉. They also sometimes have a craft corner with fabric remnants or larger scraps. Sometimes, I even buy new t-shirts for fabric (at least XXL) and reuse not just the fabric, but also the bottom seams and neckbands.
Buying fabric is extremely expensive. When spring comes and all the flea markets open here in Scandinavia, I will buy absolutely everything I can find of used clothes and fabric bags to cut fabric from them. You can buy a jacket full of fabric for 1-2 dollars. If you buy the same fabric in a shop, it costs at least 20-30. Then I get a bunch of fabrics like you have in the video, but hopefully bigger pieces. Does anyone have tips for other ways to get cheap fabrics and preferably larger pieces?
Here in the US we have walmart store and they sell fabric which can get expensive however you can buy sheets or blankets that are large that can be used for fabric to be cut from to makenlarger items
They grow so fast, don't they? Oh... and she loves to play with my fabric scraps, too :) just gotta give them our best and nurture them as much as we can!
That sweater you made for your daughter is absolutely beautiful! I love how easy you make the projects look. Thank you for the Honest Creativity you bring.
I’m saving all my woven fabrics to quilt a jacket. Most of them are shades of purple, but I have a few of other colored fabrics. All my tiny scraps I keep for stuffing, selvages are for bag handles.
I did something like this when making play athletic shorts for my grandsons. The fabric was $17 a yard (to expensive!), so I used some my workout pants (that I don't wear anymore) as fabric. I ended up having to piece the waistband together, but considering they were basically FREE, no complaints here!
So lovely. My mom made clothes for me when I was a child and I don't remember at all if there was a little mistake, or a big one. They were made for me, that's all I cared about. That was a lot of work for that last jacket, but I so appreciate the results ;P Also, the lemon t-shirt cannot be cuter. Thank you so much for sharing 😍😍😍
My mother is quite advanced in years, and still vividly remembers how her mother would present her with beautiful skirts and blouses that she'd sewn. It's a lifelong precious memory.
@@AlextheENTP something that saddens me quite a bit is the fact that all those pieces my mom made for me are now lost. I grew up and my mom gave them to cousins or family friends to get more use out of them. None of them came back, even some were not properly cared for. I'd love to have them. At least I have a half finished skirt made of an old sheet that we sew together, well that she used to show me how to sew 🤩 I should not be so materialistic, but I am 😅
@@albarodriguezcollantes5615 Yeah, I understand your feelings on that - it is nice to have a sentimental item to touch and see. It could be that your mom also saw the importance of getting a lot of use out of a product that some effort was put into. For example, I made my niece some clothing, and was thrilled to see it still in circulation years later, being worn by my smaller niece. From the maker's perspective, it's great that our creations are still being worn and loved. But from the recipient's perspective, the sadness of loss is still felt. Maybe take some comfort in your mom's sewing being such good quality that many children were able to wear what her hands had made. And you were still the number one giftee in those clothes' lifetimes! 💝
One Christmas morning, I found homemade Barbie clothes, courtesy of my mom and neighbor lady. I was so excited and I think that was the best present an 8 year old could get. I'm 62 now. I wish I could say I still have them, but I gave them to my sister when my niece was old enough for them. I also had a great aunt who would send me things she had designed and I had to put together. I loved getting gifts from her, and to this day, I can put something together from just a few things. I passed this to my great niece. She is 17 now. I have also gifted her with a sewing machine. Keep crafting everyone!
I’ve been looking for ways to use quilting squares in clothing, and these ideas are so helpful to me! Thank you! I also liked seeing your “model”! She really seems to be getting into it with the spinning, and dancing! It’s no wonder that she happy danced for the cardigan. It is so cute on her!
Hi Alisa, I've recently come across your channel and I can't stop watching. Your such an inspiration! I had somehow lost my sew-jo but your videos encouraged me to look at my fabric remnants with a fresh perspective. I was able to make a sweater and two PJs for myself ... who would have thought ?? I love my new garments and I'm very grateful for you gently pushing me back to my sewing machine.
You are so incredibly talented… with actual sewing and the thought process of garment construction, pattern making, with teaching and inspiring others, AND with video/filming. So impressive!
Thank you so much, Tami! I just try to do my best, and.... there so many fabrics scraps, will be enough for a few more garments for sure! Gotta use them up :)
Oh, my goodness!! You are so amazingly clever and I learn something new from you in every one of your videos. Now you’ve got my mind racing about using my fabric scraps. Thanks for keeping the joyfulness and mindfulness in sewing.
You are definitely the fabric whisperer!!! Love what you did. My favorite was your lil girl's sweater. It looked really cute! You have inspired me to conquer my scrap pile!
That's a very good idea. I'll make a dress with a lot of pieces to wear around the house for me and my daughter. That way I'll remember every piece I made. It'll be fun.
I used to love sewing for my children as they didn't seem to mind colorful or not so colorful outfits, especially when they were little they were appreciative, and they didn't require a lot of 'fittings' because I usually made the items of clothing with 'room to grow'.
I just thrifted the cutest linen tablecloth with yellow florals and butterflies. I want to make a romper but I’m not the best at sewing so I’m procrastinating doing anything. Love these videos. So inspiring.
i love how you focus on practical projects that are useful rather than "project for projects sake" as you said. and as a beginner i really appreciate the level of detail you go into in your other videos. thanks for sharing your positivity and knowledge with us :)
I use small scraps for Barbie/doll clothes; larger scraps for cushion slipcovers, napkins, quilts; and larger pieces for children's clothing; so I'm really pleased to see a tutorial on turning scraps into clothing for adults.
I need to make some smaller pieced garments like these from my fabric scraps. In the past I've waited until I have a massive and unmanageable amount of scraps, then spent months making a big tiered patchwork skirt. It takes so long and is so much work, I have one I started in 2020 that I gave up on!
So many scraps, so little time. I love all of these projects, you are very skilled and resourceful. I'm going to copy some of these ideas for my projects, thank you.
Have fun! Kids love colors - so color blocking works well. There is enough scraps for another 3 videos and we need some clothes for summer - so there will be more :)
Oh my goodness, your ‘mistake’ on the cardigan is just my normal sewing and I think it looks great!! Nobody is looking that closely, especially a 3 year old’s classmates 😄😄

Awesome!!! Oh, there is a video somewhere on my channel about jean upcycles, I made an apron from old denim - wow, I use it all the time when I paint, work with resin and anything messy. Happy sewing, Harshini :)
Hope you put back up some of your gorgeous colourful nature/plants drawings/paintings. They used to add such gorgeous colour to the wall. And they seemed to be - very you. Bright and cheerful! ❤️🙂

Omg! Your 3 projects are gorgeous, the look on your daughter's face says it all 😍and you're a life saver too, i was going to give all of my scrap fabrics away but not now. I'll be binging on your videos this weekend to find some ideas.Thank you so much for sharing your awesome ideas ,big hugs to you xx❤
Great ideas and nicely done projects! The beige cardigan is the one I liked the most! Color match, the lining, the edge - everything is so well-thought and well-made!

You and your little one are both adorable and you're giving me encouragement and inspiration to actually set up my overlocker and try sewing some knits
Violet, do it! :) Once you start on a serger - there is a bit of learning curve, but you will love it! Keep the manual handy and grab a pile of scraps to practice on!
I so enjoy watching you. You're amazing. I would wear the 1st one you made. Yellow is my favorite color and it is so cute. They are all winners and your little one is quite adorable.
I loved all these projects, but the one for your daughter is just so so cute! Definetly my favorite, thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas, see you in another video
Annie, hello there! How's your new sewing machine going? We have snow here today, but I know it is colder where you are at! There are so many scraps, probably good for another 3 videos :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Hi, My machine is going great. I love the needle threader, I wish my serger had one. I have a stack of fabric that I'm going to get busy on. Shirts, tops, pants and maybe a skirt. It snowed a light dusting of snow today, but it has been clear cold and windy. It's good weather to be inside and do some sewing.
I love what you do and your video’s are fantastic and so cute! Love your stuff!❤❤❤ your “little one” is ADORABLE! Enjoy your mom approvals! BTW, THE THINGS YOU ARE MAKING ARE ADORABLE, don’t be surprised if some children’s clothing line starts coping your ideas.

The adorable 'happy dance' says it all. This is the cutest jacket.
He he, she just asked this morning "when will I wear my magic jacket?" - it tells me she liked it :)
It's a sweater

Perhaps a neighbour is a sewist and doesn't want their scraps? Quilters would have lots of cotton scraps. Happy Sewing!💖
You can also buy drapes or throws (thrifted) and convert them in clothes. i've been seing a lot of coats made with throws on instagram.

You are very inspirational! My creative juices are flowing! Thank you!
oooooh, yessss! I love it when creativity knocks on the door :)

Yay! That was the goal and I am so happy you got some inspiration from this video :) also, tackling fabric scraps clears out space, win win!
Great ideas from fabric scraps. Beautiful design. 👍🌿🌺☘🌻🌵🌹🌱🏵
I often random sew pieces of fabric together big enough for pattern piece(s). 🌻
sewing piping, lace etc into the seam as you join the pieces also works well,
Great conversation you give people and it’s not bored
Most adorable little model ☺️. Thank you for sharing this with us. You are so talented and a very patient and creative sewist. 💕and 🔆.
