  • In 1977, Tom McCarthy pulled off the improbable.
He was drafted before Wayne Gretzky into what’s now known as the Ontario Hockey League, one of Canada’s top junior circuits.
While both players entered the pro ranks as teens, Mr. Gretzky wound up in the Hockey Hall of Fame - and Mr. McCarthy landed in prison.
This is a look back at the life of Minnesota North Stars and Boston Bruins forward Tom McCarthy.
Includes NHL highlights, Boston Bruins highlights, Edmonton Oilers highlights and New York Islanders highlights.

Tragic !!! Not fair. More to the3 stories that were never told. A good friend of his growing up a skate sharpenner for over 40 years that knew him and me in Mississauga told me some stories that blew my mind about Tom. If tom's brother is reading this , contact me I would like to talk to him, all good stuff. Excellent video.
