It's because subconsciously it's the only thing you feel like you have control of when you can't control your feelings or moods. This is why lots of people work out or meditate or changing up your environment is healthy. Much better then turning to unhealthy habits so kudos on you for figuring out what helps you!

My husband also has the thing where he wants to save certain things that he's worn and use them again before washing. After huffing around about it for a few years I just started giving him a hook on the back of the bathroom door. It's called "worn once" and it works great to keep the stuff neat and tidy. We've made it 30 years now and compromise is a big part of that!

I have a pretty yellow kitchen. It's a weird color like a golden yellow with a touch of orange. I love love love it. On hot days it's bright and fun, in spring it's pretty with the bright green trees. During autumn it fits right in with the touches of yellows, browns and reds, and during winter it's so warm nod inviting. Needless to say I cannot get over how much joy the color brings.
Same goes for my living room, it's almost a pink clay looking color but as soon as the color was put up in the house it just gave so much warmth and peacefulness to the space. Before my entire house was white and I never liked it because the space is too big it made it cold, even the smallest mess made it look awful.
Now even when it's messy it never bothers me. Color in a home brings so much depth and charisma. I'm especially loving all the wonderful earth tones.
All my relatives were shocked at the colors I choose (I'm actually a less is more, minimalist type person) but all said that the colors just worked so wonderfully well. I'm looking forward to redoing my room room, but unlike the rest of my home the room does remain white, this is where my best ideas come from, the one space I must not clutter is my thinking space.

For future reference, sheets make great inexpensive sources for large amounts of fabric if you want to make a duvet cover. Plus you can sometimes find new or like new ones at thrift stores to repurpose. Also, linen accepts dye pretty well, so if you had been unable to find the right color, dyeing white linen would have been a good option..

a bar with peg hooks works really well for not clean but not dirty clothes. allows for air out and rewear before laundry time. and i love the internet's shift back to warm tones from the past decade of cool whites and grays! so fun and refreshing!

I so feel your need to change! When I moved into my current flat, I put so much effort into a fake concrete wall in the bed room which was beautiful, but really depressing in winter. I changed the color scheme to white, pink and orange-brown and its so much nicer!

Paint really compliments your amazing floor. I've lived as far north as the Dakotas and as far south as deep Texas. Personal experience, the more north you live, the warmer your paint choices should be, and the farther south, the cooler your choices should be.

Warm white paint color? What a difference a NICE white color makes! White veil is now engrained in my brain so thank you for sharing! That wall color however, isn't one I would normally go for and even after you painted the sample on the wall, I didn't like any of them. When you finished painting the side walls I was floored. Night and day difference, you really changed my mind and it encourages me to go out of my comfort zone when creating color palettes. Beautiful finished warm and cozy space, well done and thanks for sharing with us!

I used to work at Fabric VIlle (Quebec's branch of Fabric Land) and the reason you couldn't find linen is because linen is a summer fabric and they never carry it in the winter except maybe in the wedding/boutique section. Definitely check the sale rack for offseason fabrics 👍
