@@JeddHughesOfficial We appreciate you, man. Bunch of us out here have been at the jumping off point, I would guess. Your honest sharing is a reminder and an inspiration to us ❤️ thank you 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing that. Yeah, thinking that if I'm precious about a line or a phrasing that isn't working - save it for another song. Might be just perfect there.
Listening to you in the background as I get ready to leave for the day and you said "low on the vine". It reminded me of over ripened fruit. things that are getting close to spoiled or rotten. Not sure if that'll give you any kind of inspiration. I appreciate your sharing of this process. I have struggled with regret of not taking the time with prose. You rock Jedd!
I think we are all on the same road Jed. We just don't realize that we keep fighting over and over for stuff that really doesn't matter. Once the realization that life isn't all that grand sinks in and that it's really just one hardship after another....life begins to be a little easier somehow. I think everybody should be fortunate enough to completely break down and fall apart sometime in their life.....because that's when the true beauty come pouring out. Anyhow. I'm not a song writer but I saw a few videos by Pat Patterson from Berkley talking about the process of song writing and it completely fascinated me. He talked about so much detail on what makes a good song better. I'll post a few if I can find them Always love thoes Jed chords😊 Take care
4:10 Sounds great, shades of Brother Where Art Thou? Or the chord, the A7, sounds like a part of the chord progression in Knopfler’s Sands of Nevada (also at 10:50). Thank you for inviting us, we feel privileged to observe a little bit of the process.
Hi Jedd, really liking this song. Your process of when you are just writing ideas down as they come and not editing anything makes perfect sense. When the flow of ideas are happening you don't want to put a kink in the hose of thought as they freely are happening. Want that tap of ideas to run full and free. This song has a great melodic quality and story. I also love the "droning" bass part, where it always falls back to, if that makes sense. Be well, wish you good creative thoughts. That you for sharing.
That’s so kind of you to show your songwriting process and that kind of reassuring that it’s ok to write sad songs No matter how hard I try on my poor level I’m always coming back to this sad themes I guess I have to accept that ! It’s fascinating to hear these advices on not being too precious of one line somehow I understand but that is a big blockage to remove kind regards Jedd and huge thanks ❤
I remember a Daniel Lanois interview where he said he always leans towards the melancholy..I think that’s ok mate, whatever resonates with you ya know! Thanks for tuning in!
This is very cool of you to do this Jedd.. I sometimes come up with music for a song.. No cohesive lyrics yet .. but whenever I think of an interesting turn of phrase I put it in my iPhone Notes …next phase is to listen to you some more… lol..! Really.thanks!
Really inspiring, illuminating and insightful Jedd, thanks so much for sharing this stuff. The guitar related content on this channel is solid gold but this for me takes your channel to another level entirely....
Jedd, when you collaborate with other writers are you the chord guy and they’re the lyric person or is it wide open and you could do either? Thanks, Ian.
Jedd, you are a treasure. Loving theese videos were you show the prosess. I write songs too, as an amateur, I would pay 100 bucks for you to listen to one of my songs and critique it. Would you be up for it?
Man, I really dig that you’re sharing your experience, strength, and hope with us. ❤
Oh man, thanks for saying that. I appreciate the support and positivity of this community.

I’ve heard the process of self editing described as ‘killing your darlings’
hahahahaha Im careful not to name them

Thanks for sharing such a personal process

I wish I was better at it. I seem to find a hook, music/lyric, then get stuck. 8( --gary
I have a very large stuck pile! years worth, they come in handy for parts and pieces for other things
