He started out as a session drummer for the late jazz musician Ramsey Lewis before taking EWF to greater heights. He also was very adept on the kalimba and various other percussion instruments. A very talented musician indeed.

Why Do You Think They Had to Use Two Drummers Live... Most Drummers Can't Play Maurice's Beats Accurately (Just Trust Me On This.. I'm a Musician)

touch, from the stellar seller All N All, i personally rate as one of
their finest albums

The line was put in as a joke and nod to the fact that when maurice wrote serpentine fire, nobody in the group, most notably Philip bailey, knew what the song was about. Phillip kept asking maurice to tell him what it meant but White wouldn't give him an answer... this eventually lead to White saying that "if you don't understand me, it's your fault"
Ha ha! My brother loved that part of the song and was always saying it along whenever that part would come.

As I read Maurice's memoir and take this musical journey back down memory lane, every once in a while I stop and go (Damn), just like I did 40 some years ago with my friends while we were smoking and drinking listening to EWF. RIP Maurice White, you will not soon be forgotten......

Just saw the band last night in Maryland with three original members and several superb additions, including Phillip Bailey's son. While Maurice White will always be missed, they were excellent!
Going to see them and Santana in August in northern Virginia! Two classic bands that transcend time.

Ali Ali Youre so lucky haha. Im 28 and had to endure so much bad music. I mainly listen to music of my parents and grandparents generation. There's so much great music to still discover from those times that I dont even bother with keeping up with too much of new music of these days. There of course are great artists of every generation.

You can really tell the difference between the music of E,W&F and other groups. They’re arrangements are very complex and different. No other act comes close to this.
