Actually blazing sorcery has quite a few spells you can use combined spells where you combine the element spell of your choice such as fireball to create a magma ball which would cause an immediate explosion on impact
I know that 99% of people, if given the choice between either, will choose B&S because infinite replay value. But Hellsplit Arena is one hell lot of fun. Very arcadey, faster paced, buttery smooth gameplay and makes you feel like a total badass (instead of a psychopath). Definitely check it out.

@Kayra Erdem why not? there are countless examples of devs and companies selling the games in beta. if you buy in beta youll have early access, and access when they fully release.
B&S became my game of all time for VR once you get in practice with fighting, twirling a bowstaff with both hands, and sweeping out the legs of enemies of you get good at fight with one
You forgot the part where you combine 2 spells of the same type to make it a lot more powerful, and the fact that imbuing a staff with spells gives it 2 unique abilities per spell. I think that alone adds a lot to the game.
@@valeravader7700 hellsplit is complete and blade and sorcery is nowhere near complete and already compete with other complete games and even better than most of them lol.
You didn’t miss a couple of things in Bladen sorcery if you block a fire ball if someone throws it at you, you can deflect it sometimes it will ricochet off your sword and hit them and also if you put any of the magic together, you could do a big attack. For instance, if you use the fireball and you put them together, you will make a big fire bowl that you can throw from any direction. There’s a big shock wave.
I have to say blade and sorcery’s weight is much more realistic has if you try to hold a heavy object fully extended you’ll find it bobbing if you can even keep your arm up
And then there is Tales of Glory. A one man project with a complete campaign conquering back the throne of your father. Not as polished as the two games here but it compensates that with huge battles on the field, infiltrating, defending, a bit of army management, rpg elements. It's super fun and really good for what one person has done. But I also like both B&S and Hellsplit. Those three are my favourite VR melee games. Sadly none is the perfect game but they are fun nevertheless.
I mean yeah but gameplay wise it sucks ass the blocking feels clunky almost every weapon is weightless and the lack of enemy variety makes the game feel boring and they picked the worst enemy skeletons making the game have no gore effects the weapon decals are really boring they are just sparks and there is no beheading skulls or crushing them or cutting off arms or limbs the enemies just ragdoll sometimes when you block it doesnt register the spam protection is annoying since when hit an enemy you have to reset the entire ark of your swing basiclly making daggers useless the spells are boring its just hit button and it will do aoe attack that does just damage and the game is way pricier then both and no its not one dev its has team behind it if were talking about one dev b&s has one dev not legendary tales
of course you can cut off limbs and heads. Gameplay wise its good as you have to manage your army, where to attack next. It also has a dungeon mode. Did you play the same game? I am talking about Tales of Glory. Not Legendary Tales
i've personally played blade and sorcery but not hellsplit so i may be biased but i think it has more potential as graphics and polish are definible traits that have simple gaugeabilty while openness and entire systems require major effort and deviation.
I have both games, but B&S has easily more hours spent on it despite being bought later. The randomly generated dungeon is just too much fun, and some of the mods I could never see myself playing without again after trying them, Daggerbending being my favourite of all.
@@Bazed. There’s some mods like modular pistols, where it adds working pistols to the game that you can manually reload. I've seen blade and sorcery pc version graphics and they look pretty insane now, idk why but in some of these clips it looks like you're playing nomad, plus I already saw you replie to a comment talking about how nomad is more convient to play. So we're you playing nomad or pcvr version?
B&S defnitly does not have enough animations, the enemies feel like robots, when you deflect an attack it never feels right, battle talent is much better if you are on the quest
3:50 "If you land a hit with the sword there's basically no reaction. You can see a huge gash, they'll flail and scream, and with a fatal blow will drop." Uh, I'm _pretty_ sure most people would consider that a reaction. You know, considering _it's a reaction_ :\
I actually said "you have just caused a big open wound on their body and they dont really move or react other than screaming out in pain" watch the video, you can see they barely react to being slashed with a blade. Compare that to the way Hellsplit Arena enemies stumbled and move to hits.
The best thing I found with B&S is a glitch which makes you giant and tracks perfectly but also makes two handed swords like the claymore really light.
I've only played B&S, one thing I want to include that they didn't mention is you can deflect spells back to the caster or a different target using your sword, and you can "enchant" your weapon with any of the three spells available. With that said, swinging a greatsword or claymore is a ton of fun in that game and you really feel the weight of your weapon when it comes crashing down on an npc. Only downside is the Maul doesn't do that well. The game is kinda lacking content in it's vanilla state though, when Crystal Hunt comes out, that's when you should buy the game unless you plan on modding
on the campaign thing, in 2023 (hopefully) they'll add something similar called crystal hunt or something where you can buy weapons (i think) and change stats and stuff
If you want a mix of the two, I would recommend trying out Swordsman VR. The AI is not dumb. The AI actually calculates where you swing and then counters with an unscripted move. Meaning that you can't block its every moth with rythm, you actually have to react to a new move almost every time. The map also has a good selection of maps, boss battles, and a fully completed campaign. The AI also detects your vulnerablilities and exploit them to try and win. You can also control the difficulty, choose different maps, play against different types of enemies, and there is an option which makes armor super realistic. Like if you hit a samurai on any peice of armor, your weapon will be deflected. The graphics are also good. The lighting and the AI combined, as well with the armor physics and graphic quality, make this game feel polished. If you have not tried it already, you should compare it to both B&S and Hellsplit: Arena.
@@mathisfernandes9509 Not really. The AI controlling the enemy watches and predicts your attack so it can counter. All attacks/counters are not scripted but auto generated to try to win.
Overall I think Hellsplit Arena has more engaging and straightforward combat but Blade and Sorcery, especially thanks to its modding community just has so many different ways to fight and kill your opponent that just makes it more fun as a game overall. Not to mention the massive progress it makes when an update arrives.
Both games are fantastic, in my opinion, when you consider the modding community. For Blade and Sorcery, it isn't even close. There are a bunch of mods to fix bugs, some weapon handling, and a bunch of content. Unfortunately, Hellsplit Arena doesn't have any mods, but if it's vanilla Blade and Sorcery, Hell spilt Arena wins. [This is only my opinion.]
I personally prefer Blade & Sorcery. And I do think It makes sence for the enemies in B&S to be harder to dismember being living instead of Unead. Meaning you have to be more precice with the strikes to consistanly get the desired effect.
A nice detail about b&s aloy of people don't realise is that stopping your sword before it goes through the enemy means they get cut, it's why so many people find it easier in slow mo, they actually follow through instead of using the sword like a baseball bat
I havent played Hellsplit yet, but I been eyeing it. I have 100+ hrs in B&S though, I absolutely love it! The Mods really take it to a whole other level. Even without Mods its a solid game for $20.
Gotta state my opinion real quick on Hellsplit, it's a great game but the lack of mods make it get boring after 8 hours or so. Which for a $20 price is maybe too expensive. But right now it's on a 20% sale so if you wanna get it I'd say now is your chance. It's worth it for this price for sure.
Blade and Sorcery wins out for me, but there are definitely features I wish it could crib from Hellsplit. The handposes for weapons, the weapon and ragdoll physics and especially the blunt weapon physics. Using a mace or hammer always seems to feel like your swinging around a pool noodle in B&S, and the impact always leaves a lot to be desired. Hellsplit reducing heads to gibs is definitely a plus. I would also say graphics, but IIRC, Hellsplit is made in Unreal while B&S is made in Unity. Making Blade and Sorcery in Unreal would A) be making the whole game again from scratch and B) severely handicap modding.
@@mrjtfang2 you have to hit them correctly, you swing, make sure it connects, and follow through with the swing. If you stop your swing on contact, you're gonna have a weaker attack, just like real life
Just gotta say before ive even watch this video. I really like both, even if one is better than the other. I think they are both really really fun and have there own thing going for them. Cant wait to watch this video^
I wish we could combine the 2. I'm a massive B&S fan but I'd love to see those Hellsplit enemies. The big pro here is the mod community for B&S, even the weighted weapon mods which fix that issue
I hear Remnant: From The Ashes' theme! Glad to hear it again. :) Good video by the way. I personally like Blade and sorcery more, because I feel the weapon's capabilities is fairly realistic. Personally, I also think that B&S's enemies react about as much to getting hit as Hellsplits, but I could very much be wrong.
I've only played B&S myself, but from the looks of things, it seems that one is going for a bit more realism, and the other a bit more fantasy. Blade and Sorcery, despite having magic, makes effort to be more realistic. Armor is a major factor, with even the small metal plate on one kind of armor able to block a stroke if you happen to hit it. Leather, padded cloth, mail, and plates all have differences in how they protect their wearer, both the enemies and the player. It looks like, from this footage, that Hellsplit doesn't worry much about armor and just gives you some meat puppets to cut up. Which is fine, and it seems that they still can fight back, just that they don't really seem to have any protection. It certainly looks like you could probably play and enjoy both. Maybe akin to Halo and Call of Duty. Both similar, but also different enough that you could enjoy both in their own way.
on the topic of blade and sorcery I mean we have to remember that blade and sorcery is still in early access so everything can and WILL change while hellsplit arena is out of early access meaning there might be updates but they will not be something big like a new combat rehaul or new texture rehaul
I just find the movement speed in HSA is way too high, I used to try and deflect blows with a shield, but you dont even need to because you just simply run backwards and forwards to dodge attacks. you can kill people just by running into them with your sword out lol
hellsplit arena just added climbing and guns which is really cool. They also made a post saying they are working on adding the ability to add modded weapons and enemys soon. The main reason why I like hellsplit more is because the grafics are a lot better and I love how active the devs are on the forums & steam with updates and good support. But blade and sorcery is also a very good game I just have my own prefrences
Ehh, by virtue of doing many things at once (melee, gunplay, climbing, a VA'd campaign, etc), Boneworks doesn't really do any one thing better than a game that specializes in it. It's melee combat definitely feels a step below both of these games.
Thank you for this comparison vid ^ ^ not sure what one I want to get. I really like the look and feel of Hellsplit. but the mods for Blade & Sorcery look like alot of fun.
I like both games. I tried Hellsplit Arena at my friends house and it was my first VR game ever played, it was f*ckin awesome. My own pc can't handle Hellsplit though, so I had to refund it and try Blade & Sorcery and my pc can handle it at low settings pretty well. I totally love B&S, it's amazing what the devs are doing with this game and the mods are pretty dope too. I would easily play both games and have fun with them.
everyone else here is saying that the mods in b&s make the game so much better, but imo vanilla hellsplit is so damn fun and unlike blade and sorcery makes me feel like an actual badass knight. i'm not biased, since blade and sorcery was my favourite vr game until i got bonelab. hellsplit arena kinda makes me realise how much graphics can change in vr games. it makes me feel like an actual knight because the game is so much more polished, and blade and sorcery makes me feel more like i'm just some guy messing around (like bonelab or boneworks). one thing i noticed in hellsplit as well was the variety of enemy attacks and types. like the dark knights and heavily armoured enemies are so intimidating, but the people in b&s are just so goofy and unrealistic that they don't even feel like people that wanna kill me. in short, the enemies in b&s are soulless and goofy, while the enemies in hellsplit feel like they are actually conscious and are making critical decisions (which is kind of ironic since they're undead).
I belive they updated blade and sorcery with its ai combat so it is less janky. The last time i played the character movements werent stuttering or bouncing like the past. They also seem more reactive a bit. Still needs alot of work though
imo hellsplit arena is an easy game with an easy learning curve, the fact that getting into it is so smooth make it so its much more accessible. Blade and sorcery is janky in the beginning, and has a pretty huge learning curve from "I can kinda play" to being able to pull off cool tricks and satisfying attacks. I also prefer the overall setting of BaS, because with mods you can p much emulate anything. Imo BaS is better by miles, simply because the combat gets more interesting the more you play around with it. on top of that, Blade and Sorcery's melee combat is much more grounded in realism, shown by the physics system (as you said, heavy weapons "bounce" when one handed), which again forces you to learn how to use each weapon at your disposal. I just find it much more interesting, however Hellsplit is still a good game, but it doesn't feel as satisfying to win because it's overall easier to master
The graphic "Issue" isnt really an issue for me. I don't have a really good pc and can't play most VR games due to that. Hellsplit Arena is out of range for my current setup. Blade and Sorcery works really well. And if I remember right... In a thread the developers of B&S actually said that they aim for the "normal" playerbase, to make it playable for other people than 6000$ setup guys.
Same here. I tried hellsplit at my friends house and it was fun (hell, even my first VR game ever played), but if you aim a gun to my head and force me to choose between the two, I would choose B&S.

6:33 it's called the "The Outer RIM" mod NOT the "The Outer WILDS" pack
Actually blazing sorcery has quite a few spells you can use combined spells where you combine the element spell of your choice such as fireball to create a magma ball which would cause an immediate explosion on impact
blade and sorcery*
I know that 99% of people, if given the choice between either, will choose B&S because infinite replay value. But Hellsplit Arena is one hell lot of fun. Very arcadey, faster paced, buttery smooth gameplay and makes you feel like a total badass (instead of a psychopath). Definitely check it out.
i agree
Ngl b&s players are bias tho if b&s was actually better they wouldn't have to mention the mod support for weapons and maps
@@r1l3y72 exactly, hellsplit doesnt need mods to be good
@@MrBCB someone that understands! I love b&s but I just find it repetitive after a couple of minutes and I'm on nomad so I find it boring with mods aswell
@@r1l3y72 same. Also, i hope this doesn't make me sound like a psychopath, but the gore in hellsplit is amazing lol
Blade and sorcery is still in development, but even in the fact that people are comparing it in the stage it’s in, that just shows it will definitely overtake hellsplit arena.
Hellsplit updates sometimes too, ant it's comlete game- truth they both great
facts
If the updates continue to be the quality they are right now, definitely
@Kayra Erdem it is very much so still in development. it is still in beta and hasn't been fully released as a complete game
@Kayra Erdem why not? there are countless examples of devs and companies selling the games in beta. if you buy in beta youll have early access, and access when they fully release.
We just need these two games to combine efforts and you will have something beautiful
"...my horse comes over and does a big poo" is a vital and much appreciated part of the narration xD
Blade and Sorcery is in my opinion the better game it makes more fun and is easy to mod with a big modding community that is constantly growing.
they both great, but blade and sorcery more sandbox, hellsplit complete game, but just arena)
And b&s has a dungeons mode and also revamped enemy attacks to make them smarter so other than multiplayer it useless game
of course you can cut off limbs and heads. Gameplay wise its good as you have to manage your army, where to attack next. It also has a dungeon mode. Did you play the same game?
I am talking about Tales of Glory. Not Legendary Tales
@@Hoshi82 fuck got them mixed up
i've personally played blade and sorcery but not hellsplit so i may be biased but i think it has more potential as graphics and polish are definible traits that have simple gaugeabilty while openness and entire systems require major effort and deviation.
I have both games, but B&S has easily more hours spent on it despite being bought later. The randomly generated dungeon is just too much fun, and some of the mods I could never see myself playing without again after trying them, Daggerbending being my favourite of all.
So if both games combined there mechanics it would be the ultimate game
"B&S have mods, while Hell doesn't"
That's all I needed to hear
1 mod for star wars light sabres and 1 mod is weapon megapack. other mods are junk...
@@floodmachine1868 just not true
@@floodmachine1868 you really don’t have any fun if two mods are all you use I’ve got about 40 for my perfect experience
@@lordofcups78 any chance of sharing some of the sauce?
@@Bazed. There’s some mods like modular pistols, where it adds working pistols to the game that you can manually reload. Cross-merge (I think that’s what’s it’s called) where you can mix more than 1 type of spell together. I’m sure there’s a lot more like that, just check most popular or most tending on nexus mods.
I've played blade and sorcery, swordsman vr and hellsplit arena and all i want is a combination of all 3 of them
Sword and Sorcery is my pick with all the mod choices
3:50
"If you land a hit with the sword there's basically no reaction. You can see a huge gash, they'll flail and scream, and with a fatal blow will drop."
Uh, I'm _pretty_ sure most people would consider that a reaction. You know, considering _it's a reaction_ :\
wrong timestamp
I actually said "you have just caused a big open wound on their body and they dont really move or react other than screaming out in pain" watch the video, you can see they barely react to being slashed with a blade. Compare that to the way Hellsplit Arena enemies stumbled and move to hits.
The stab attacks actually got fixed now and feel very realistic witch in my opinion makes me think hellsplit arena is almost perfect 👍
The best thing I found with B&S is a glitch which makes you giant and tracks perfectly but also makes two handed swords like the claymore really light.
Great analysis of the two games mechanics. I cant wait till I finally get to try vr.
I love you using the half-swording technique in hellsplit, refreshing to see people out there know it's effectiveness :D
If you have not tried it already, you should compare it to both B&S and Hellsplit: Arena.
so basically Blade and sorcery with mods
@@mathisfernandes9509 Not really. The AI controlling the enemy watches and predicts your attack so it can counter. All attacks/counters are not scripted but auto generated to try to win.
Hellsplit Arena is going to update to have a workshop for mods on steam soon. they already announced.
You can also press the bottom button on your oculus controller to push the object away
I personally prefer Blade & Sorcery. And I do think It makes sence for the enemies in B&S to be harder to dismember being living instead of Unead. Meaning you have to be more precice with the strikes to consistanly get the desired effect.
blade and sorcery is not even at its full release yet so when it is fully out it will probably be much better
now hear me out on the Stab Attacks part, THEY ARE ZOMBIES WITH ROTTING FLESH THEY ARE GOING TO BE EASY TO PIERCE
A nice detail about b&s aloy of people don't realise is that stopping your sword before it goes through the enemy means they get cut, it's why so many people find it easier in slow mo, they actually follow through instead of using the sword like a baseball bat
Try Until You Fall VR, it doesnt have a sandbox mode but its pretty fun
I havent played Hellsplit yet, but I been eyeing it. I have 100+ hrs in B&S though, I absolutely love it! The Mods really take it to a whole other level. Even without Mods its a solid game for $20.
Gotta state my opinion real quick on Hellsplit, it's a great game but the lack of mods make it get boring after 8 hours or so. Which for a $20 price is maybe too expensive. But right now it's on a 20% sale so if you wanna get it I'd say now is your chance. It's worth it for this price for sure.
The problem with blade and sorcery is basically just the AI not feeling pain or blocking.
If the weapon is floppy you're using it wrong
@@milkinanime7047 Nah, blunt weapons kinda' feel a bit weird in Blade and Sorcery.
The fact that he didn’t mention merging spells is enough to make me go crazy 😂
Ok so we definetly a Hellblade Sorcery Arena game now
I hear Remnant: From The Ashes' theme! Glad to hear it again. :)
Good video by the way. I personally like Blade and sorcery more, because I feel the weapon's capabilities is fairly realistic. Personally, I also think that B&S's enemies react about as much to getting hit as Hellsplits, but I could very much be wrong.
6:02 I love the explanation of lightning
Both games are an inspiration and I dissect them whenever I have a chance. It's quite the learning experience and has helped me improve my game
3:12
Ah yes, I love the slicing open my hand mechanic in hellsplit arena
"Lightning is basically some sith lord dark side shit-"
And that's exactly what I use it for
Remember, B&S got a massive update on the AI and plus U12 offers more with world breakables.
I want a game that has the Polish, gameplay and graphics of Hellsplit and the modsupport, sorcery and maps of blade and sorcery.
on the topic of blade and sorcery I mean we have to remember that blade and sorcery is still in early access so everything can and WILL change while hellsplit arena is out of early access meaning there might be updates but they will not be something big like a new combat rehaul or new texture rehaul
I think if they made the enemies more reactive in blades I think it would be perfect
The harder level characters have a better AI. He didn't show the stronger opponents.
Shout out to Tales of Glory. It's like Mount & Blade plus Blade & Sorcery
Virtual insider talking about weight physics:
boneworks: Bonjour
Ehh, by virtue of doing many things at once (melee, gunplay, climbing, a VA'd campaign, etc), Boneworks doesn't really do any one thing better than a game that specializes in it. It's melee combat definitely feels a step below both of these games.
Boneworks is made as a physics game but due to the game being abandoned and lack of updates it isn’t in its best years right now.
But with bonelab around the corner the physics might be improved.
I would easily play both games and have fun with them.
mans got the remnant from the ashes music for the intro, sicc
everyone else here is saying that the mods in b&s make the game so much better, but imo vanilla hellsplit is so damn fun and unlike blade and sorcery makes me feel like an actual badass knight. i'm not biased, since blade and sorcery was my favourite vr game until i got bonelab. hellsplit arena kinda makes me realise how much graphics can change in vr games. it makes me feel like an actual knight because the game is so much more polished, and blade and sorcery makes me feel more like i'm just some guy messing around (like bonelab or boneworks). one thing i noticed in hellsplit as well was the variety of enemy attacks and types. like the dark knights and heavily armoured enemies are so intimidating, but the people in b&s are just so goofy and unrealistic that they don't even feel like people that wanna kill me. in short, the enemies in b&s are soulless and goofy, while the enemies in hellsplit feel like they are actually conscious and are making critical decisions (which is kind of ironic since they're undead).
Does it support full body tracking? Ill definitely try after watching this video, thanks.
6:01 "Sith lord dark side shit" lamo great way to put it
If you're looking for other melee based vr games, legendary tales is a neat one.
this is a very fair review, just facts and clearly stated opinions, good job.
I belive they updated blade and sorcery with its ai combat so it is less janky. The last time i played the character movements werent stuttering or bouncing like the past. They also seem more reactive a bit. Still needs alot of work though
In the settings for blade and sorcery, you can turn off the wierd weapon lag by turing the rotation mode to rigid.
It is really important to remember that B&S is still in early access and is still being worked on
Both games are
the horse poo bit was so unexpected i chuckled
B&S is my favorite cardio workout. I haven't played HSA.
"My horse comes over and has a big poo..."
SOLD
i wish you made a review on undead citadel it was a demo it was like hellsplit and blade and sorcery mixed together
imo hellsplit arena is an easy game with an easy learning curve, the fact that getting into it is so smooth make it so its much more accessible.
Imagine if these devs worked together to make a game.
Now that U12 is out, the AI is much more reactive and actually have dodge animations when you try to hit them, and they also get staggered when they are hit!
I'm guessing this is a mod but was a citadel actaully added? I dont remember it at all.
It's only on PC vr
B&S has The Outer Rim mod. Easy win for B&S.
However, I am very excited for Undead Citadel.
To the Death or the Drum! That is my workout.
Hellsplit has zombies sliding on banana peels. Instant win!
8:16 I love the Skyrim theme 😏👌
The main difference: Blade and Sorcery remains interesting to play even after 100 hours, and Hellsplit: Arena gets boring after five to ten.
