I'm stuck at @3:33, there is no Database listed... :(

To create a PDM vault you need to create a database table in the existing SQL server installation. Notice at 1:46 you have the choice to add to an existing SQL instance or create a new one. In some cases the SQL server you are using won't broadcast correctly so you'll have to type it in, it won't automatically display correctly. The database name is your choice, so the database listed will be "\". Depending on where the server is there are a few ways to confirm the name of the instance, but you will need permissions to create a table and not all installations are setup with those permissions for most users. I hope that helps, if you need more assistance I recommend you reach out to your reseller or to your local PDM Administrator, if you have one. Hello, I have installed the first time the PDM and all is going well but after I have uninstall it and reinstall after installation don't show the configuration for archive how can I do?

The Archive Configuration Tool is interesting because when you run it one time, the interface stays running in the system tray even after you think you've closed it. Expand out the running applications next to the Windows clock and see if you can find the Archive Configuration tool there already running and open it from there.
If you reboot your computer and launch the Archive Configuration tool it will again launch the first time, but then it simply keeps running minimized if you close it. I hope that helps you resolve this issue!

We just update our vault from 2020 to 2021 along with updating to SW2021. I'm now getting an SW PDM error "Failed to obtain a license for SW PDM Standard. No such feature exists." any suggestion on what I should be looking for

Reach out to your VAR for support, if it is MLC CAD Systems email solidworkssupport@mlc-cad.com. This could be caused by several things, but it sounds like the SolidNetwork License Manager either does not have the PDM serial numbers entered or it has not been upgraded and re-activated. I am bit confused with checkin and checkout procedures. Currently I am using standalone PDM (server and client at the same workstation). And I have some questions as follows and really glad if you could supply some insights regarding.
When I am trying to checkin in the assembly, the dialog box asks for the checkin other parts files and drawings too. If i check in parts then this process will only update some parts if those are only modified right? or else what is the correct method of checkin in and checkin out? should we need to checkout each parst before assembling or after assembling?
As per my understanding, each time I pressed save button (as a practice in normal solidworks in case file closed, but in this specific case there is no any * with the file name) in assembly it shows that the new modification have done(in pdm task pane) and it allows to enter new comment even there is no any such modification. Is that the general case? should we avoid to press save if there is no such *adjecent with the file name?
In my understanding the checkout process will allows me to edit the part, and checkin process will allows to update and place all the modification in valute which is accessible to others (can they edit during checkin by my self?), in case of checkout by myself then the other users can not access the parts for modification right?
hope you can provide an answer regarding the case of standalone installation scenario

It is true that PDM will create a new version for any file that is modified. Modification could involve an update to a newer release, a manual rebuild at the part level, or an intentional change that modifies that part directly. In the case of a standalone setup where you are the only user I would personally not worry too much about when it does or does not check in a new version and would make sure that all changes are included and checked in regularly. The only drawback is a bit more storage space used by the server, and the alternative is that you would need to micromanage your check-in operations and might lose work if you forget to check in a file that has changed on purpose. In a normal day's work, you shouldn't expect the majority of your parts to require a check-in. If you have more specific questions or abnormal behavior please reach out to your local support. If that is MLC CAD Systems, you can create a customer service ticket here: mlc-cad.com/technical-support/
It is up to user preference whether to check out or check in everything at all times, but best practice is to commit changes to the vault regularly, at least daily, or they are at risk of data loss. Also, don't ignore the messages that indicate you are trying to change a read-only file, that will help you make sure things go smoothly.

@@MLCCADSystems Thank you for the response. but trying to check in or send for the approval process after modification of the parts (after rebuild>save and check in) notifies to rebuilt drawings associate with the relevant part and sub-assembly with its drawing. This means all of the reference documents should be reopen and rebuilt save and checkin again. Is that the normal routine? seems pretty annoying.

@@LalithaSrilale09349 Those checks are there to help you avoid a serious problem that sometimes happens where a part is updated to a new design, but nobody updates the drawing to reflect the new information. In that case, the drawing could be released with old data on it and the wrong part gets built even though the part file is correct. Depending on your needs and workflow those notifications and checks can be made optional or dismissed. In the Administration tool, double click your login name and go down to Warnings. There you can decide if warnings will only warn or block the operation. It may also require some one-on-one review of your workflow to make sure there isn't some other operation you're doing that isn't optimal and that is causing these annoyances. With a properly configured vault and a few workflow modifications, these types of issues will generally stop getting in your way.

@@LalithaSrilale09349 If you make a change to the part or assembly, but do not open and rebuild the drawing, the information on the face of the drawing will be out-of-date. The details of this workflow need to be considered carefully, preferably with a PDM implementations expert. I've seen several methods for handling this scenario, but it is reinforcing best practices and keeping you as safe as possible from data inaccuracies.

Once I tried to create Vault, that the administrative tools asks a valid account to proceed. This may due to the server issues. Can you suggest a solution for the case.

The permissions required to create a new vault are much higher than nearly any other operation in PDM Administration. It requires the permission to create a new SQL table, which is often reserved for the "sa" login or db_owner, and many companies restrict access to those accounts. Try again, from the server operating system, using a Windows account that has the necessary SQL permissions to create new tables. If needed consult with your IT department or your local VAR to troubleshoot the issue further. If you are an MLC CAD Systems customer, reach out on our website mlc-cad.com/technical-support/
