I've had some comments below about this book and boycotts and honestly I don't know what is going on? I've looked for things for Orion and their parent company Hachette and can't find anything. I'm such a busy person and I don't keep up to date with book news now. The only reason I haven't spoken on this is because I didn't know it existed. If anyone can send me links for Orion/Hachette that would be fab.
This is about St. Martin's Press and them not acknowledging the discrimination that takes place in the proces of publishing and advertising books from Bipoc (by one of their employees) (there is prove of really discriminating posts and st martins press has since october not yet made a statement about the issue). Since we in Europe have other publishers we did not get a lot of information (I only recently saw a video about this). But the person who brought the issue to attention asked people in America to not show books/titles that are published by that publisher and people in the other parts of the world to stand by them by also not spreading the titles that are published under St Martins Press in America, but distributed by other publishers in our part of the world (so this book, but also ruthless vows I believe for instance). Hope this info helps!
@@Wanderness In America 'A Fragile Enchantment' is published by st martins press. That is why people don't show the title but do show the author. I think it is difficult for other parts of the world since orion is not in any way affiliated with st martins. So the dilemma is: 1. Not mention title and with that show sympathy to the cause in America but also negatively influence Orion publishing and author (who are not at fault) 2. Not participate in the boycott but then for your American watcher positively influence st martins press if they buy the title in America (and they are at fault)
Ahhh I seeee. I mean, that's really hard for UK readers though because we just see the publisher of books here, it wouldn't have crossed my mind to be checking the US publishers of a book and whether there was things going on with them. I guess US readers have the option of buying from the UK if they really wanted the book, even though it would cost a lot more
@@Wanderness I agree. I really admire the people bringing this problem to the light. But perhaps there is another way in Europe to raise awareness without negatively impacting people that are not guilty. Mentioning it that when you are interested in the book that other editions are available or setting a disclaimer in the comments (something like that?)
I plan on making my brooch into a magnet. I really loved this box! I loved the book especially under the dust jacket art I wish that was the main jacket since I didn’t love the color change.
some small plants would look gorgeous in the plant pot - love the design and overall pastel theme going on in the box! the book customizations are great! love the alternative cover under the dust jacket.
I don’t get Illumicrate but I did get this YA book only and thought it was really nice. The hardcover is so pretty and the endpapers 😍. OwlCrate did the same book and it’s nice too but doesn’t compare. You could use that lunchbox for other things like storing makeup or other women’s items. It’s nice to store in a pretty bag than boxes under the sink or in draws in the bathroom.
The apron and plant box are so beautiful and practical. The book is so gorgeous; the colors and designs are fantastic. Loving the Mango photos on Instagram.
I really loved the lunch bag, but I only have one other so it's nice to have a choice and I don't tend to put too much in my lunches. I think the pattern blew me away more than anything though. I really loved the edition of this book, it's gorgeous.
So many great items in this box I would use the plant pot for book tabs or bookmarks or your annotating items. The book is so beautiful and I love the sprayed edges and the dust jacket is stunning. Wow such a beautiful naked hardcover book xxx
This box was defo better than IC’s. I love the packing cube. The book is gorgeous. A strong start to the year for YA FL. We should keep a tally or something 😆

I was soo excited for the plant pot but mine was horribly off center and it just looks very wonky on both sides sadly :(
I think when they only do a color change I appreciate a reversible dust jacket. In this case I didn’t like the cover but love the reversed cover. It’s a nice touch IMO. 😊
I get the book only book and I am normally okay with character art on the covers but I don't like the main cover on this one, I don't know why, I think it is a little bit creepy. I like the reversable dust jacket though so I think I am going to switch mine around but still, such a pretty book!
On the topic of Illumicrate books having restrictions from the publisher I noticed that according to their instagram the January, February, AND March IC books all have restrictions from the publisher, but they also all have Bonus Content so I’m assuming that publisher restrictions is potentially the trade off for the book having bonus content ??
I got 100 pages into lady scoundrels before dnfing it but agreed the lunch bag looks and feels cheap. I like the plant pot even though I didn’t really like the book, I agree that they should add in adult book themed items as long as there not overlays. I thought the apron was cute and I can’t wait to use it as I like to bake a lot. I think the cover is really pretty I just don’t like the feel of the cover if feels like plastic to me, the under dust jacket is nicer but I’m not going to be switching it.
The only reason people complained about adult items in ya boxes was because the over lays were useless if you dont have the adult sub. Its also useless if your a new sub, so as cool as over lays are, imo they should be for the book of the month ONLY. I think the pot plant is so ugly hahaha. Ive sold it, the pin and the lunch box. I really like the apron but mine stinks and needs to be washed.... It smells like something from wish. The book is cute but over all i wish id skipped honestly and just got the paperback
No I mean I saw it for the January announcement too on their Instagram comments, separately to the thing about the overlays Someone else said their apron had a smell! Mine doesn't, I wonder if they came from the same place 🤔
@@Wanderness i wonder if its because they are worried about getting more useless overlays. But i do get it for people who are maybe too young for adult books yet. Personally i dont care where the item is from, as long as its cute, except for overlays cause they are very specific. Yeah i have no idea!! I havnt washed mine yet, cause ill soak it in salt to make sure its colour fast before i put it in my machine, but i hope the smell goes away, cause it is a really cute item!! I have high hopes for feb and march boxes, i really like the fandoms and excited for the books (except for feb ic which im only getting for the replica haha).
Hey Ness great to see you back in a new video. Looking forward to this book despite the whole grievance over the publishing house, not sure if this is just in US as I know a lot of booktubers over there showed the book just not the title. To me this seems daft as surely it affects the author then 🤔. I soooooo want this book tbh
I mean this book isn’t a book you can just buy. You have to have a subscription so don’t see how not showing the title would affect the author? You can still read the book. The boycott isn’t of the books & author but the publishing house. I have the book on hold at the library. I am not an influencer but if I was I just wouldn’t do free marketing labour for a publishing house that clearly doesn’t care for poc & the Palestinian ppl and if other influencers feel the same I think it makes sense. Was kind of surprised Ness hadn’t joined the boycott tbh.
@@crystal1134 I used to subscribe to FairyLoot and will again shortly. I don’t condemn anyone who wants to show the book off, so many Publishing Houses have so many imprints it is hard to keep up with who has what these days so again another reason I wouldn’t be off with someone, it doesn’t mean they support the words of said publishers.
I just finished the 2nd Emily Wilde book. It was good but first was better. I do like the plant pot! I get not wanting adult themed items in a YA box. That being said...how many adults are getting the YA box (myself included) vs actual teens getting these boxes? I very rarely seen any teen booktok/booktube/bookstagrams and you'd think they'd pop up more often doing unboxings if they were out there. It's weird about the aprons! Owlcrate also did an apron for their Valentine's/Romance one-off book box, so I think that's 3 companies that had the same idea at once. The book isn't my style at all, though it is pretty. The hard cover is the best part. Thanks for sharing!
If it helps explain a little more about the boycott, it's not a boycott in that you're not supposed to buy the book. It's more of a marketing boycott in that influencers don't want to give St. Martin's Press free advertising by reviewing the book, showing the cover, things like that. They are not boycotting the authors because the authors have no to little choice about any of this. So, it's ok to buy, read, share with friends, but just not online. I think most just want SMP to just address the issue rather than ignore it. So some people are getting around it by covering the title of the book but saying the author's name. I only know about it because of tik tok, but there is quite a bit of content there if you want to know more from more knowledgeable people. I agree, it would be hard to know about all this going on when your country uses different publishers!
So I have read the Wisteria Society books and would describe them as light hearted and fun. Like definitely an easy read. I personally prefer the alternative dust jacket. I agree the colour change is better than the original but that art work just isn’t for me, love the rest of the customisations though. I switched to the book only combo a while back. Personally I loved the overlays and they were the first item I was properly sad to have missed so I bought from Vinted. I get it is frustrating if you don’t have the book but based on the prices people were reselling them for I am not sure people should really be complaining, yes it is inconvenient to have to resell but people were def making money from them and lots of people loved the overlays.
I ended my fairyloot sub in December but I know this box would not have been for me. Looking at the special editions of this book, I was a bigger fan of the Owlcrate edition. I wasnt that impressed by FL's dustjacket colourway change (just felt lazy to me) especially since the reversible was essentially just the US cover. The naked hardback is probably the most gorgeous bit. Love seeing your joy from opening the boxes.
Did anyone who got this box notice that the apron smells strange? Also compared to the previous boxes, this box wasn't great, but it was much better than Jan 2023!
I really enjoyed the book, but it's def more new adult than YA (the characters are over 18 and there's a small amount of spice). I prefer that, but just in response to the "younger readers" speculation on the brooch.
@@Wanderness I was also surprised by the amount of queer rep! The MCs are both bi and as a bi woman who mostly dates other bi people, that was such a pleasant surprise
I personally don't like this cover at all, I would be happy for a complete redesign.. The couple creeps me out, they look like siblings 🤣 And I think the edges don't fit the gentle pastel theme of the book at all, they are too bold and look like grandma's pillows or something 🤣 It would be much better if they did simple pastel edges for this. At least they included the US cover as well and of course the hardback is beautiful.. But I am glad I skipped 🤣
