      @@LetsTalkComedy For sure! Thank you for offering your time to critique to watch. I do have a 5 min clip if i can send you? I'd love to hear your advice. Also do you have any tips for telling or writing a story in a funny way? For example, I have a story that's not really that funny, but I would like to insert funny (jab) lines every 2-3 sentences as to not "lose" the audience. Easier said than done. Like where do I find the "jab" lines? And how do i know what I am inserting is funny? Anyway thanks in advance!

      Yes, I considered this. However, youtube is quite strict with what's allowed. I didn't want to get a copyright strike on my channel. Also, I was hopeful that the description may spark some knowledge on its own. I'm really trying to motivate people to write their own way while just having a basic understanding of how others write. Hopefully, the video is satisfactory. You can always go check out a Bill Burr special and see if you can pick up on some of the techniques I talked about or even find some of your own. That is a fun night if you ask me.

    Would consider critiquing viewers stand-up sets if we sent them in?

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  Год назад +8

      Thanks for commenting. I've been considering this for quite a while. Stand-up comedy at open mics doesn't look great on RUclips videos. And people would need to be OK with their early set being online. I'm not against the idea. I just need to have a think about how constructive I can be for people. I'll consider a format that works and possibly in the future. If the channel would like it, then possibly yes.

    Wow, so I could send a link to my stand up and you might randomly publicly me to critique (unless I misunderstood somebody’s comment and your response)?

      I'm considering something like this. I might start live streams in July and possibly critique peoples live sets during that. It depends if I have the time to do it consistently. Time will tell, might be interesting to start. If there's interest i'll most likely give it a go.

    Thanks for the breakdown. I’m just getting into intentional comedy writing using these techniques. I’m finding incongruity, ranting (superiority), and recognition seem to come more naturally to me. I have a question, though. I am starting an improv class soon. What advice can you give for using the improv class to learn comedic timing and delivery?

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for commenting. I'll have to have a think. I've never done an improv class. I do tend to rant during my set but not in a traditional improvement style.ill have a think and make a video on my opinions and techniques regarding improv. Might be absolutely useless, but who cares.

    so like I was saying at the beginning I’m very new to comedy, first thing I asked was do we get paid for Open Mic? They obviously said no… I then asked if I could us this on my resume… Maybe under volunteer work since your saying I don’t get paid… they looked so confused as if never being asked that question before… in my head I already had it wrote out …Open Mic “ Volunteering my time to entertain others and bring sunshine and laughter into there life, Nature mood stabilizing abilities…I was about to make my resume POP from this experience...then they asked me why I was asking such random questions… and I will tell you the same answer that I told them…. I just recently quit my job. Well it’s kind of weird like I didn’t technically quit my job. I just decided not to go to work but I’ve done this like 30 times before but I promised myself this will be the last!! Im taking life serious now and I’m getting into comedy and I was done with Uber… but if I Boom up here tonight? I will probably unquiet, and go back to work… I’ll probably be taking someone home tonight… but not in a sexual way… but in a, Hi, I am your Uber driver way… do you know how odd that would be!! Im your driver! After you guys get into my ford Focus… I inform you that there are bottled waters and moist towelettes placed in the center console…as we are driving I ask how your night was?and if you had a good time? You reply back. Yes, it was OK.… I say “ Just Ok?”…..was there any comic who really made you laugh? Or really impressed you? Yo say yeah the first guy he was great… at that point I slowly slowing down to extend the trip , and I raise the backseats heat 1 degree every few mins… so if you don’t want to be that person who goes home with a $200 Uber bill, and have your cloths soaked in sweat… please laugh at some of this ish!!!

    And I must’ve been like 10 when I watched it for the first time and I thought to myself I want to be a comedian! I wanna make people laugh!I want to make people cry! I want you to feel something when you walk out!! and I want to be F-ing funny!! …. Did any of that happen ? No that’s why I’m a 40-year-old man doing Open mic but I am a testament that a dream never dies!! You know it’s my second time doing stand up. First time didn’t go to bad!! It was at a seniors living facility? first it had the coolest name, elderly palms…so I was very excited!! I was totally hoping it to be like a 90210 type a senior situation going on… this person is cheating on this person… this person got caught, leaving their teeth in this person’s room… I can’t tell you if I did good or bad my set came up in-between the closer who was an Elvis impersonator, and a clown who came on before me… craziest part is, I didn’t even know that clowns still performed? I thought they were all taken out during Covid I kid I joke, but seriously if there was any group among us, that would seem like they could get covid and probably have bad health insurance it would be the people whose job it is for a living to do kids birthday parties and usually kids under the age of like 10… it’s that age were germs Don’t matter to kids.. but clowns still perform and they are real and this one was horrible .…this clown ,he was like the dollar store of clowns, and I feel like even that is giving him too much credit… you know how most clowns can do cool magic tricks they can make animals or flowers out of balloons…. This clown?
    Couldn’t do any of it… his balloon animal trick? was to blow up a ballon… not a trick balloon or a penis balloon… just the old fashion birthday circular balloons that you can get like 20 in a pack for five dollars… so I was really intrigued to see where he was going to go and how he was gonna turn this balloon into an animal… the clown yells out to the audience. What’s your favorite animal? He repeats it! What’s your favorite animal!!? He Repeats it again!! What’s your have animal? He does this three times before someone yells out dog! again we are performing at elderly palms… lots of bad hearing in that place… I’m thinking OK dog seems like an easy one for him to make… so now showing us the audience his completely blown up balloon. He does a few hand gestures in front of the balloon…then the clown, proceeds to pull out a sharpie marker from his pocket and draws a stick figure type of dog onto the balloon… I thought to myself that’s all it takes to be a clown? Im in the wrong business.…
