Do you know anything about VIGILANT fire detection systems, Mainly in trying to figure out what detector is causing a faulty alarm? Some detectors have a flashing red light other detectors of the same type are not flashing?

Hi Peter, flashing lights mean polling. Old detectors , mostly conventional, don't have flashing lights...just white light (conventional) which turns steady red in alarm. All addressable detectors are provide flashing/polling lights as they transmit signal to the fire indicating panel (FIP). But there are some addressable detectors that don't flash as the programmer forgot to tick the box for polling/flashing. Cheers.

Also, it seems that you are dealing with a conventional circuit. In a vigilant panel, any polling/flashing detectors that you mixed with non-flashing/polling detector will cause the active alarm hard to find. The activated alarmed detector will showed steady LED lights and then it fades...this will be the cycle ...then steady light again and fades. That's because the circuit power is also used to blink the other detectors as they polled. That's why donot mixed polling detectors to non-polling detectors in a conventional circuit.

@@fireprotectionguy7943 Hi, I really appreciate your reply's thankyou very much. I have no actual experience in Fire Detection Systems, Im just an Electrician who runs the power station on Lord Howe Island NSW. Basically the hospital here has had an alarm triggered but there is no fire risk and I am trying to figure out what alarm is causing the FIP to be triggered. We can clear the alarm from the FIP but within a few seconds it is triggered again. The FIP and associated detectors are old with a Vigilant FO8 panel and is from around 1992. There is a combination of Heat and smoke I think and as I said some of the smoke detectors blink (poll) and some of them do not which is what I'm finding hard to follow. The heat detectors do not appear to poll. There are around 12 detectors on the faulty circuit and Im just trying to minimise time in finding the faulty detector. I am planning on removing each detector one at a time now and using a "good" detector from a circuit that is working correctly to see if that detector is faulty. Would this seem like a viable option for finding the faulty detector? Again really appreciate your input. Its always a bit difficult being in such an isolated area and having to figure out new things on such old systems. Regards, Peter

@@peter92103 ..no problem. Another source of problem is the F08 end of line resistor...and sometimes, in the circuit there's a break glass / manual call point that short circuiting the wire. I suggest to replace those detectors. Use Hochiki SLV-as (Smoke) and DCD-A3 (Heat) plus bases. Hochiki are non blinking and very compatible with F08. Get that from Incite Fire www.incitefire.com.au/ It's cheaper there and ask for a trade price. Easy to install. All the best Mate.
