I studied with them off & on for 50 years but never could bring myself to be baptized into the faith. Just what I learned from those studies was deep seeded within me & I believed they were the truth. It wasn't until one of their high ranking governing body members Raymond Franz, who wrote his book, crisis of conscience left the faith, did I realize they were anything but truthful & my eyes were opened to all the false beliefs they taught. If all witnesses could read his book, their eyes would also be opened.

As a former JW, I would say your video is pretty accurate on their beliefs. You definitely did your research. Although I’m agnostic, I thought it would be interesting to see someone else’s take on the religion and its doctrine which is why I decided to watch but I’m glad you also highlighted some of their worst beliefs which are the no blood doctrine and the disfellowshipping. I myself moved 19hrs away from my family when I woke up and realized it wasn’t the truth as they like the call it but I couldn’t express that out of fear of being shunned. 2 yrs later they still don’t know as I’m working towards that in therapy. I think highlighting these unloving practices that Watchtower has gaslighted their followers into believing are un loving and Christlike by someone who has never been a JW could help people realize they aren’t who they appear to be the quirky people who knock on your door. It’s nice it’s not just coming from a ExJW but someone on the outside. I’m only 18 min in but if you don’t touch on it they also have a issue with covering up child sexual abuse which comes from the top most everyday JWs don’t even know it’s a problem and that’s what woke me up. They were so critical of the Catholic Church and is no different. Also the way they treat domestic violence is harmful as well. Blaming the woman and you cannot remarry even in situations as that.

@peony2353 Hi there, I appreciate your comment. There's definitely an idea that Jehovah's Witnesses are just Christians who happen to be more strict on various things. But I definitely tried to show in the video that they're really better classified as a different religion altogether and some of their beliefs cause active harm to their congregants. I don't think I touched on the abuse, but that could definitely be an idea for a future video. Thank you for watching and I hope you'll be able to check out some of the other videos in my series! Side note, I know you said you're agnostic now, but I wanted to let you know I will be praying for your family for sure

@@theologywithseth Thank you. I personally consider them to be a cult or high control religious group similar to Mormons and seventh day Adventist who all came out of William Millers movement. This could also be another topic to explore in another video as I noticed you mentioned seventh day Adventist in this video. It’s a reason why those 3 have some similarities in their beliefs and structure. In fact in the subreddit for ExJw and Ex Mormons they call each other cult cousins lol. That’s could be another interesting topic and I hope you do explore the abuse a good place to start with that is the Australian Royal Commission and there is currently a grand jury investigation in Pennsylvania some arrest have been made. The elders book that has a lot of policies about this and disfellowshipping can also be found online as elders are required to follow this book and not the Bible when deciding to disfellowship someone. The exposure of who they are definitely helps puts pressure on them to make changes. Thank you although I am agnostic I appreciate the intent and sentiment behind prayer

Great overview Seth. I've always found it interesting how cults always do something weird with the cross- either straight-up denying it like the JW's do, or by insisting that the *real* Atonement happens elsewhere like the Mormons believe. It all goes back to 1 Corinthians 1:18- For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

My entire family are jehovahs witnesses, I was raised in the cult. This was not only a very accurate account of their beliefs and and doctrines, but it was presented in a loving manner which I respect. I was never good enough to for them because I rarely went to the meetings and never measured up to their standards.Thank God because it has taken years to undue the damage. Hi again! It's a pretty standard teaching from the Watchtower that after Jesus returned in 1914, he began inspecting Christianity to see who was sincerely following him and who wasn't. They draw a parallel between Jesus's first coming and how 3.5 years after his baptism, he cleansed the Temple in Jerusalem. So they say, 3.5 years after 1914, he cleansed the "temple" of Christendom, finding only the Watchtower to have proven faithful. Everything below can be found on their online library and I'll cite the url's for you.
"Jesus was baptized and anointed as King-Designate at the Jordan River about October 29 C.E. Three and a half years later, in 33 C.E., he came to Jerusalem’s temple and threw out those who were making it a cave of robbers. There appears to be a parallel to this in the three-and-a-half-year period from Jesus’ ‘sitting down on his glorious throne’ in the heavens in October 1914 until his coming to inspect professed Christians as judgment began with the house of God." (wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1101988006)
"Let Christendom deny that 1918 is the date of the Lord Jehovah’s sudden coming to his spiritual temple as the God of judgment, accompanied by his Angel of the covenant Jesus Christ. Nonetheless, the time of judgment is here upon all who claim to be God’s house, whether truthfully so or falsely, and judgment has been in progress since the spring of 1918 onward... Christendom cannot accept the real Christ in his kingly, priestly role today since the Kingdom’s birth in 1914... But who is it that has been able to face this day of his coming to the temple with his covenant Angel and to endure it? It is those who have sincerely been seeking Jehovah." (wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1955847?q=1918&p=par)
Then, as far as JW's referring to Christianity as "Babylon the Great", there are many references I could cite, but one of their articles details how Christianity became the great harlot of Revelation by the Fourth Century.
"The truth is that by that time an apostate form of Christianity had joined the pagan religious organizations of the Roman Empire as members of Babylon the Great." (wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2016843)
      I hope that helps!

Thank you for exposing the erroneous beliefs of the Watchtower Society's cult. It is astounding how the Watchtower Society's doctrines clash with those of Jesus Christ and Christianity.
I don't hate the current Jehovah's Witnesses, nor do I scorn former Jehovah's Witnesses. They have it hard enough without being scorned as "evil apostates" by those in their former congregations, and you're right when you said that they need our friendship and understanding love. However, it is disturbing and sad when current Jehovah's Witnesses have yet to wake up from the Watchtower Society's indoctrination, because it is hard to overcome. Keep up the good work of enlightening the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Some research on the origins of the teaching of the immortality of the soul takes us to the Greek philosophers of around 300 BC. I do believe Christianity has been polluted by such philosophers and most Christians are unaware. The late David Pawson, a preacher from the UK, acknowledged this pollution of Christianity.

It is very hard to evangelize JWs. When they understand they are speaking with somebody who is actually knowing the Christian doctrine, they will never come to your door again. I am a Catholic theologian, and this has happened to me a few times. They think speaking with people like us is dangerous. It might be, because we do know our arguments. Using verses from a wrong Bible is not an argument for a Catholic who is denying Sola Scriptura in the first place. Trying to show how JW organization was the Magisterium is pretty much doomed effort. No real Church in 2000 years, until Russell came up with his sect? Come on.
JW are biblical literalists, but with their own version of the Scripture, which contains many modifications to accommodate the heresies they subscribe to. As a sect with Protestant roots (namely in Adventism), they keep Sola Scriptura, but to do that, they had to change the Scripture. The modern JW could be described as a neo-Arianist sect in their understanding of God.

    • @theologywithseth
      @theologywithseth  2 месяца назад

I think you're spot on with your assessment there. JW's are Arian in their Christology and have made some very obvious changes to the Bible in order to support their theology in general. I'll be talking about some specific examples soon so I hope you stick around!

@@FrankLee-gq8yc to be honest. There are no doubts. Just truly disagreements with how child abuse is handled. As a new father and someone that has been privy to the abuse of friends of mine it has soured me. And maybe also the new direction the GB is taking on something’s to just be more appealing to the “world” so no one or no one government can scrutinize them. It shows that there maybe something deeper going on.
Like Aiken when he hid his intentions and what he did by burying the stolen goods from the spoils of war instead of dedicating it to YHWH like was commanded, judgement wasn’t withheld from the Israelites, but the GB won’t take responsibility for actions of what maybe a small minority or a majority of the leadership within their own ranks or the men that serve below them shows a wicked spirit. They rather change policies or play word games to make it seem like nothing is happening when in all actuality it is.
I still put faith in God, as Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
I try to lead my life by those principles because all other things morally right will follow if you try to apply that at least.

They can certainly be kind and loving! But so can atheists, Muslims, Mormons, and of course, Evangelical Christians. That's not necessarily a reflection of how correct their theology is. The question you always have to go back to is, "What does the Bible say?" And sadly, many of Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs contradict what the Bible says. So much so, that they eventually had to create their own Bible and change the wording to reduce the conflicts between the text and their teachings.
