Years ago I had a relatively rich Loan Shark girl friend in Phuket who was a local and her family stretched back many generations, and by the looks of her and her father and brother, maybe they stretched all the way back to when the Portuguese colonised Phuket. She held the deeds to peoples land and homes, she also had local thugs on the payroll to chase up unpaid debts. That was very off putting for me coming from a very lawful and egalitarian country like Australia, so I soon moved on.
In a Thai family someone has a debt. The Thai family member that has the debt will ask for money with the so-called promise to pay that money back. What you do not know is how many friends he or she asked for money to. The simple answer is to say NO when a family member needs money to pay off a debts. If your wife starts lending money to family and friends run for the hills as she will start asking you for money. Remember you are not legally married and the money you have is for your retirement and not for someone else.
Reminder to all as I sit here on a journey from deep Isaan rural to North Canada that it is over 40 hours. Like holy crap over 40 hours. So any romantics remember to factor that in your love algorithm ❤ For a break whilst traveling and talking on LINE, that works great, here is some percentages they replied for scams. - Scams. Big cities about 50% chance - Scams and Debt. Small village about 5% chance and mostly a drug or gambling problem they are trying to support. - Debt. Small village very common and usually hard working, honest people that had a bad crop or business year and recovering. - Korat area and close to city like Rob is of course as Rob honestly reports in all his videos. For the loans I suggest watch some video like the 7 habits of the rich and why they are not poor. I admit at first thought why even talk about all this stuff with Davo and look surprised as this is general knowledge and nothing to learn as everyone knows this ... then thinking, maybe it is just our duty to talk about so others that don't know can learn in an interesting video?. I admire the good of Rob to do this on his learning channel. If you like car stories... I went to buy a 4x4 capable vehicle. Asked the cute saleslady in the angora sweater if I could try the 4x4 feature on a mound. She got all excited. Said yes. So I said oh you don't sell many of these. She said sold 6 this morning and everyone bought because credit approved. Also. Hear stories of car dealers refusing sales for cash and insisting buyer take a loan. Obviously making more money on the loan. Off to a charging station and pondering opening franchise gyms at airports for exercice between flights many of us would love.

I listen very close to my trusted thai friends. At the same time I dont look to capitalize in Thailand nor pursue any fishy smelling ladies, that's probably more where the rope a dope with a scam happens.
It’s weird because Davo knows a guy in that business and he also knows for a fact many or all of them are illegal and yet people sign contracts and promise collateral.
@Reset With Robb probably some criminal element. If the contract is invalid people should refuse to pay and if pressured file a complaint. There are more people in debt than the people who make these predatory loans.
how do you make sure they have no debt? pawn shop loans are common. car debt, house debt. but how to know is there is more? (i m not particularly concerned in my case)... I would and have always asked for documentation.
Hello Rob another great video with great content,,, I have been chatting with Thai lady for about 3 years now (I live in Seattle Washington currently) I'm planning on going visiting her soon,,,, she has built 2 fairly quaint nice small homes that she occupies along with her brother and sister-in-law with there two children ,,, what's another way to find out if she has occurred any loan debt without raising any big red flags or being too noisy? Or maybe it's none of my business? Any feedback would be appreciated Thank you,,,, be safe 🙏
There are many studies conducted that suggest pshyco logical and health benefits for happily married couples are significant compared to never married or causal relationships In the end it’s an individual choice In saying this there are 2 things to consider the word “happily” and the fact that if you are knowingly entering a relationship with a Thai woman they 100% expect a marriage at some point So ask yourself why are you even considering the relationship 🤷🏿♀️

Good only? Hmmmm. Depends a lot on how they live. I’d say it’s common for people to go to 7-11 once per day. That’d be 150- 200 Baht? Veggies- by the bag- are about 10-20 Baht- I think you’d buy those 2x per day? Meat is more expensive- I think Fawn buys pork or whatever we’re eating abs spends 200 Baht for 2 days worth… Then add in some cheaper local “Thai-only” restaurants maybe 2x per week at 150 Baht. You could add that up and modify to what you’re thinking. That would cover 2 adults and maybe a child as well +/-
Really depends on location and lifestyle. The Isaan village i was in I would say on the very country side of things, example no 7-11, local rice and garden products of the season, so 200 baht a day or less if no garden, under 100 baht if you are eating your own mangoes, flowers, roots, etc. This is an extreme for a farang so you know, Rob is in a sort of hybrid mode, and of course if you live in a tourist area prices increase accordingly.
On self reflection my ex Filipina gf in 2006 needed cash to pay off a loan (maybe there was no loan)! And then again there was another Flipina in 2020 (but she was hot-worth it)

Watch the airport USB chargers- they’re full of malware now.
