Arkane Austin is quite literally just Arkane, you don't need to separate it, Arkane Lyon allowed the game to be published even if they didn't develop it, and didn't stop it from reaching release even despite multiple years of development. Though I also wouldn't say Arkane is dead, Redfall is really their first mistake.

Seasons are suppose to add more story through cutscenes. I guess this allows them to build out a larger story. My only concern is that since it flopped, it might not get fully told

Nothing worse than trying to milk customers with non stop live services games. WE DONT WANT THIS. This is why the industry is in a tailspin. This could have been a good game as a single player experience.
When I heard "live service" I pictured something with more customization. You can't sustain an online game with just a handful of characters to play as.

I have heard an opinion from a game developer's rant video that, in the industry there's a trend where game consultants will always advice and push for game companies to make live service/Games as a Service (GaaS) games, because that's the one big thing of the future that makes the most money. If you think about it, chasing trends has always been a thing in the video game industry, very similar things happened before when MMO got the buzz, or Battle Royal, or any other buzz word new genre got heat. Nowadays it's simply that most games take many years to develop, that the results of "following the trend" comes out years after the concept was trending in the first place. What is unfortunately the case is that as video games get more and more expensive to develop both budget and time-wise, each project has to justify itself with ever higher profits projections, which led to most companies trying to achieve it with chasing the most theoretically profitable models possible, which is usually the big new trend of the time, be it MMO or Battle Royal, or now GaaS.
This was a soulless cash grab and I think everyone is in denial about that fact. Now that the founders of Rocksteady have long since left, Rocksteady is dead.

I'm not familiar with the Sweet Baby Inc thing, but I agree that WW and Batman should be swapped. I tried to avoid specifics for those who want to play it still.
How so? Most of the higher up DC Villains tend to see Batman as a threat. Darkseid even tries to recruit Batman just as often as Superman. Having Wonder Woman and Superman would be uninteresting overall since both are Gods. Why not have Batman shown as a villain once in a even though Superman tends to be a villain the most within the Justice League founders?

I fully agree with your critiques on the combat. They really should've looked at MOBA games and DnD for inspiration when it comes to group-focused combat. There should be a tank (King Shark), a ranged "mage" that can do AOE damage (Boomerang), a hunter/sniper that does high single target damage (Deadshot), and rogue DPS, Harley. They should all have secondary classes for support and make the combat more challenging so support is actually needed. Deadshot can have a medpack, King Shark has regeneration (he has this in the comics ffs), Boomerang can have something Speedforce related for healing, and Harley can have a motivational party buff like a bard.
You’re point about the modifications in side missions is very true, but once you finish all the Support Squad missions and move to just doing endgame versions they literally completely get rid of the modification system and you play them normally which is hilarious. It’s like Rocksteady knew they were awful and let you free from their grasp once you finish them.

Honestly, I think we are actually seeing that in the rear view mirror. The live service model has already been dead for a very long time. I’d even say it began the nosedive when Destiny 2 launched bad, but you just saw this mass production because AAA followed a trend that was already dead. What is absolutely insane is how blind rocksteady were in even beginning this project when live service was already dead. BioWare scrapped pretty much the whole of Dreadwolf and made a handbrake turn to avoid this, Microsoft dumped Redfall early to get rid of it, and Naughty dog scrapped theirs completely. It beggars belief rocksteady didn’t read the clear and obvious signs. We are rapidly entering the age of the Indie and generous game. Baldurs gate, Pal world, Manor Lord, Dragons Dogma. I don’t think there’s a Micro transaction in sight. I’ve heard zero about FIFA or whatever the hell it’s called now, from the last I heard their sales are down. People got sick of starting their teams over. There is cause for hope of anything.
My thing about Batman is he said he was proud to call Tim Nightwing but in Arkhamverse Divk Grayson is Nightwing? Plus he doesn’t have the same look as Arkham Batman so are they in a alternate universe?
I played Gotham knights for 10 mins then deleted it afterwards, and seeing this game makes me not want to play another rocksteady game ever again unless its the original Arkham series.

After the commercial failure of Avengers, why would DC allow both this and Gotham Knights be non single player centric games? Wouldn't you want to diversify your releases, especially if Rocksteady has a proven track record of success?
Even when I was a kid could make a better story than they did, clearly the owners of Rocksteady has no respect for Batman or the fandom. If I made it, I would have made the final mission let you play as Batman, and let you defeat Brainiac with him, and him resisting his mind control with the words "I am Vengeance, I am The Night, I am Batman!"
It's pretty crazy that Insomniac captured the magic of Rocksteady's superhero games with the Spiderman games more than Rocksteady managed with this one. I hope they can pick up another DC hero and give us a good game in future.

at least the earlier access play testers reviewed the game for me. Saved me 70 bucks. Really intended buying it based on Rocksteady alone but this looks worse than I expected.
Gameplay looks something like it’s fun at first but then a week later you’ll realize you’re fighting the same enemies, fighting the same way, doing the same objectives for months until the next big update. I don’t think even new characters or locations will be enough to maintain player retention. Once the next big thing comes out people will jump to that and let this game collect dust. The all time peak is just at 13k and only 6k playing now, it’s going to drop dangerously low even before half the year.

Seasons are suppose to add more story through cutscenes. I guess this allows them to build out a larger story. My only concern is that since it flopped, it might not get fully told

I do not blame the founders of Rocksteady turning their backs on this, they made the right call to leave the studio mid development. I do blame Sweet Baby Inc. for some of the issues with the characterization and writing.
Nothing worse than trying to milk customers with non stop live services games. WE DONT WANT THIS. This is why the industry is in a tailspin. This could have been a good game as a single player experience.

I have heard an opinion from a game developer's rant video that, in the industry there's a trend where game consultants will always advice and push for game companies to make live service/Games as a Service (GaaS) games, because that's the one big thing of the future that makes the most money.
If you think about it, chasing trends has always been a thing in the video game industry, very similar things happened before when MMO got the buzz, or Battle Royal, or any other buzz word new genre got heat. Nowadays it's simply that most games take many years to develop, that the results of "following the trend" comes out years after the concept was trending in the first place.
What is unfortunately the case is that as video games get more and more expensive to develop both budget and time-wise, each project has to justify itself with ever higher profits projections, which led to most companies trying to achieve it with chasing the most theoretically profitable models possible, which is usually the big new trend of the time, be it MMO or Battle Royal, or now GaaS.
This was a soulless cash grab and I think everyone is in denial about that fact. Now that the founders of Rocksteady have long since left, Rocksteady is dead.

I'm not familiar with the Sweet Baby Inc thing, but I agree that WW and Batman should be swapped. I tried to avoid specifics for those who want to play it still.
How so? Most of the higher up DC Villains tend to see Batman as a threat. Darkseid even tries to recruit Batman just as often as Superman. Having Wonder Woman and Superman would be uninteresting overall since both are Gods. Why not have Batman shown as a villain once in a even though Superman tends to be a villain the most within the Justice League founders?

I loath this game. It’s so wrong on every level. They ruined the Arkham ending of the last Batman game. He went to all that trouble, sacrificed so much, gave up all those friendships and then we learn that, off screen, he just went, “Meh,” and joined the Justice League anyway!? WTF!? Oh, and he killed Robin off screen too? . . . Seriously!?

I fully agree with your critiques on the combat. They really should've looked at MOBA games and DnD for inspiration when it comes to group-focused combat. There should be a tank (King Shark), a ranged "mage" that can do AOE damage (Boomerang), a hunter/sniper that does high single target damage (Deadshot), and rogue DPS, Harley. They should all have secondary classes for support and make the combat more challenging so support is actually needed. Deadshot can have a medpack, King Shark has regeneration (he has this in the comics ffs), Boomerang can have something Speedforce related for healing, and Harley can have a motivational party buff like a bard.
It's a shame how this game has ended up...
You’re point about the modifications in side missions is very true, but once you finish all the Support Squad missions and move to just doing endgame versions they literally completely get rid of the modification system and you play them normally which is hilarious. It’s like Rocksteady knew they were awful and let you free from their grasp once you finish them.

Expect to see this more and more as certain prominent players in the industry push toward that all digital, ‘monetize everything’ future. Some have been pushing for it since they entered this arena. You know, stuff like ‘always online’ and gravitating toward discless consoles, etc.
Honestly, I think we are actually seeing that in the rear view mirror. The live service model has already been dead for a very long time. I’d even say it began the nosedive when Destiny 2 launched bad, but you just saw this mass production because AAA followed a trend that was already dead. What is absolutely insane is how blind rocksteady were in even beginning this project when live service was already dead. BioWare scrapped pretty much the whole of Dreadwolf and made a handbrake turn to avoid this, Microsoft dumped Redfall early to get rid of it, and Naughty dog scrapped theirs completely. It beggars belief rocksteady didn’t read the clear and obvious signs.
We are rapidly entering the age of the Indie and generous game. Baldurs gate, Pal world, Manor Lord, Dragons Dogma. I don’t think there’s a Micro transaction in sight. I’ve heard zero about FIFA or whatever the hell it’s called now, from the last I heard their sales are down. People got sick of starting their teams over. There is cause for hope of anything.
My thing about Batman is he said he was proud to call Tim Nightwing but in Arkhamverse Divk Grayson is Nightwing? Plus he doesn’t have the same look as Arkham Batman so are they in a alternate universe?

I played Gotham knights for 10 mins then deleted it afterwards, and seeing this game makes me not want to play another rocksteady game ever again unless its the original Arkham series.

After the commercial failure of Avengers, why would DC allow both this and Gotham Knights be non single player centric games? Wouldn't you want to diversify your releases, especially if Rocksteady has a proven track record of success?

Even when I was a kid could make a better story than they did, clearly the owners of Rocksteady has no respect for Batman or the fandom. If I made it, I would have made the final mission let you play as Batman, and let you defeat Brainiac with him, and him resisting his mind control with the words "I am Vengeance, I am The Night, I am Batman!"
It's pretty crazy that Insomniac captured the magic of Rocksteady's superhero games with the Spiderman games more than Rocksteady managed with this one. I hope they can pick up another DC hero and give us a good game in future.

Spider-Man 2 was another title that was used as a vehicle for social-engineering and I found that incredibly offensive. Gameplay was good, but I don't want politics and indoctrination tools to be in gaming any longer.

at least the earlier access play testers reviewed the game for me. Saved me 70 bucks. Really intended buying it based on Rocksteady alone but this looks worse than I expected.

Gameplay looks something like it’s fun at first but then a week later you’ll realize you’re fighting the same enemies, fighting the same way, doing the same objectives for months until the next big update.
I don’t think even new characters or locations will be enough to maintain player retention. Once the next big thing comes out people will jump to that and let this game collect dust. The all time peak is just at 13k and only 6k playing now, it’s going to drop dangerously low even before half the year.
