    Hello! I have an '00 S Type 4.0. What plugs and coils do you recommend? Also, what can I use to tell me exactly where my misfire is coming from? What diagnostic tool? My check engine light is not on. Can AutoZone pinpoint this? Thanks!

    did you remove the dip stick for a particular reason? At how many miles (or years) do you recomend changing sparks and coils? Thanks!

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  7 лет назад +9

      Hi,
      The dipstick was removed just really to aid ease of access to the coil packs and spark plugs.
      Jaguar recommend that the V8 spark plugs are changed at 100,000 Mile intervals. The V6 is every 70,000 miles and presumably only if Jaguar approved plugs are used.
      The coil packs don't really have a replacement cycle and they usually don't all fail at once either. So if you do get a failure it could be an indication that others may fail. Purists will suggest changing the whole set at the same time but that can be expensive. I suggest seeking advice from an independent Jaguar specialist if you have a failure. The coil packs we used in the video were Jaguar approved OEM made by Denso of Japan.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hi there, I have been watching your videos and checking in for sometime now hoping to run into this video here, the only thing is that it is for the S-Type R. Have you ever done this for a 2005 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6? I’ve been looking everywhere but no luck. It’s been something I’ve been meaning to do along with replacing the water pump but I didn’t want to start blindly working on it

      Hi Ariez,
      Apologies for a late response. We haven't done a video for the V6 engine yet regarding coil pack and spark plug replacement. However the procedure is quite different to the V8. On the V6 the inlet manifold has to be removed to access the coil packs and plugs on the drivers side (UK). There is a video originally from RUclips showing this although it is for the early model the later ones are pretty much the same. drive.google.com/file/d/1LmW5KHlajHFhQTVk44O4KjADREpyY052/view?usp=sharing

    This might be a dumb question to ask - but do you disconnect your 12V battery when replacing the coils and plugs? Thank you!

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  4 года назад

      No not a dumb question at all and no It shouldn't be necessary to disconnect the battery. However if you do disconnect your battery for any reason you will need to re-enter your radio code and reset the electric windows.

      Hi Daniel,
      We don't have an EGR repair/removal video planned just now but I have attached a pdf download which covers the removal process for all petrol engine S Type cars.

      Regarding the "exhaust flexi" I'm unsure which part you refer to or indeed what model car you have. JagTV are a RUclips Jaguar Enthusiasts/Owners channel and as such don't undertake repairs other than our own vehicles - sorry.
      Anyway hope the EGR pdf is of use

      Jag TV i have 2.7d stype xs. The exhaust flexi is attached to the catalytic converter and according to forums/internet its common. There are even repair/replacement kits available, i would of thought you would have knowledge of this. If you dont then not to worry, i already have a quote but im not happy with the price is all

    Hello, I own a J-type S 4.2 R 291KW manufactured in 2004 with 170,000 km the problem is when it sits on, there is a strange noise and when they are in motion, when I accelerate in half, there is a strange engine noise for 5-7 seconds, then it disappears ... I changed the spark plugs and a coil. What could be the problem?

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  4 года назад

      Hi - It is very difficult to diagnose the fault that is causing your engine noise without being with the car. I would suggest that you get someone to listen to and watch the engine whilst you rev it. It may just be that something is loose. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  5 лет назад

      Hi Heath,
      A spinning coil pack retaining screw would indicate that you can just pull the coil pack out. However I would try and pull out the retaining screw first. If it comes out then so will the coil pack.

    the rubber tips on two coils melted off onto the spark plugs... cant get the socket around the plug. I've tried fishing it out with a hanger but no luck... any suggestions?

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  7 лет назад

      Hi Enoch,
      Wow that's an odd one the rubber ends of the coils should be heat proof and to some extent oil resistant. So I'm guessing that you are trying to remove bits of rubber from the "plug well" whilst the plug is still fitted. If so I would suggest using a vacuum device to suck out the bits - or am I misunderstanding you?
      Also get yourself a set of these - they are worth their weight in gold.

      Hi Dave - yes we are well overdue. We moved from Lincolnshire to Staffordshire at the end of 2018 and along with Family health matters and latterly Covid-19 restrictions it's been a challenging couple of years. Our cars have pretty much been 'mothballed'. We're hoping (fingers crossed) that we can get back onto the road this Summer with our S Types and get the opportunity to perform some more maintenance videos. Thanks for your interest Dave.

      Hi - We changed just one coil pack because the engine was misfiring. The fault was identified using a diagnostics device which showed a misfire on cylinder 4. We also changed all the spark plugs at the same time as they were due for replacement. We didn't get a restricted performance message when the coil pack failed though. The restricted performance message can be displayed for several reasons and I would suggest using a diagnostics device to identify the underlying problem. Sorry I can't be more helpful and hope you get it sorted out. You could try looking at the Jaguar forums which are quite useful.

    • @droneactivities2599

      +Jag TV well im starting to believe is the ignition coil cuz i started the engine and i disconnected one coil and the engine sound or rev didn't change or do anything so the coil is not firing to the spark plug,,, but is really strange how this problem came cuz car was running good and i have the check engine light cleared and then the performance message went off and 70 miles or so did come back and i noticed engine little shaking and poor power but still can get to 70 mph or more so ,,,

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  8 лет назад +1

      +droneactivities
      I have to say that it does sound like you have a misfire but do you know which cylinder or cylinders?
      Is it a coil pack or spark plug failure?
      You can still do 70mph in an STR on just 7 cylinders but wouldn't recommend it.
      Good Luck!

      +Jag TV well yes i got told there are 4 misfire on bank 2 so cylinder number 2-4-6-8 and the car shakes a little when parked but when put it into drive can't notice ,,,yes i was thinking of that ,, i don't want to drive the car like that anymore but is my daily drive right now ,, for work, so i will try to replace the coils and hope the restricted performance go off ,,, but i don't get is that when i reseted the check engine light i stop the engine and started again the message went off but no the cel and i drove the car for a day then next day message came back
