"how to edit" is such a strange term because in reality editing is a way to express your unique creativity and everyone does it differently. On the other hand though, creators like Hayden Hillier Smith have greatly influenced my editing choices...like adding vine booms, spongebob timecards, and vinyl scratches wherever you can just to annoy him. For real though, editing influencers have the power to change the way videos on youtube are made, and that's so crazy to me. To all my fellow editors, keep on innovating, but most importantly, keep on vine booming. If you know you know, and once again, sorry not sorry Hayden ;)
I wouldn't say you are a slave to the AI. You are a slave to viewers. They are driving the training data for AI. The AI or algorithm is just created to reward the best monetization behavior of viewers. It is entirely the same to television. It just with television the metric is slower and less complex.
As a beginner on my editing/RUclips journey, my mind was blown in the "What we WANT to make vs. the algorithm" section of this video. I have been trying to figure out my format, and find a formula that I can repeat, so I can learn how to be consistent in making videos, but I am struggling. This part made me feel like it's ok to not have my video format figured out yet, because that could actually be a bit of a trap. Thank you for the encouragement :) This podcast always gives me inspiration to keep learning and not give up.
The question "Do I make the art I want to make, or do I make the art the market wants?" is among the oldest possible questions across all art forms. We just collect more specific data now, more quickly, and call it "The algorithm."

And by the way Kelsey (as I am following her for more than 2 years) is a very professional and also funny person! Very interesting! Big congrats guys!
I'm not fond of people slapping influencers on the end of everything to make it seem more professional or whatever or make it sound like it is something new. They are video editors who just happen to post editing tutorials. I'm happy they are getting the recognition they deserve and are helping others, but I just hate the term influencer lol. Next thing you know, we're going to have chef influencers, gaming influencers, make-up influencers, and audio engineering influencers haha. Why can't we just keep it simple and call them what they are. Video editors, gamers, make up artists, audio engineers. No hate on the video. I just was more or less ranting about the term influencer.

This is so cool, definitely used her videos to help grow my editing skills these last 15 years of making RUclips videos.
I felt the editor role shifting part so hard. It gets pretty ironic when your content is focused around editing and you're not editing the videos haha
