My Son and I went to a Overnight Cub Scout function at Battleship Cove. We sleped in the SAME hammoks as the Sailors did. I was snoring very loudly so they moved me to to a less populated spot . I almost ended up in the "Brigg".
Always loved Battleship Cove! Been there and slept there on multiple occasions and I need to go back soon. The fact you guys have a real RUclips channel with quality content is awesome!
First, I can’t say it enough how much I am enjoying these videos! Love ‘em! Second, a question - do you have any of the original logs for the brig from when the Massachusetts was in service? I think it would be terribly interesting to see one either filled out or just what they had to do to log “residents” (like those two guys - ha ha!). Thanks again and keep them coming!!!
this is actually more pleasant than I thought. I figured it would be being locked in the hold with rations for water and hardtack and when the ship returns to the port and the sailors no longer animated the family gets a folded American flag and a chaplain at their door. Somehow, some bizarre reason, I was issued that story and for a little over a decade I believed it.
The navy did away with the 3 day bread and water thing because somehow it constituted cruel and unusual punishment. The carrier I was on back in the '70's, the captain was pretty handy in handing out 3 days bread and water. Not to mention the brig was run by the Marine detachment.
The Navy removed brigs from their warships but when the Iowas were reactivated they found the brig useful. The later generation Nimitz class carriers included a brig.
Adam……A drunk on liberty isn’t a crime in the Navy. (It’s kind of a life style.) If you’re only drunk and not doing stupid stuff. The Shore Patrol will escort you back to your ship and restrict you to it for the remainder of the day with no punishment. Now, if you’re rowdy, they might lock you up.
Been to visit the ship several times. A battleship is an amazing structure. Too bad it was built under the restrains of the 1922 Washington treaty limiting the tonnage and length. There were 4 of the class- Alabama and the Mass. Survived, the S. Dakota and Indiana did not.
Y’all deserved more subscribers! Your a good presenter, Tom.
thank you we really appreciate you watching

How many staggered on the plank from shore leave and had to dry out in the brigg?.
