Thank you guys for doing what you do to preserve our history. I've been coming to visit the Massachusetts for years. I used to come with my uncle when I was a teenager. Now that I'm older I come with my fiance. We try to visit the Massachusetts once a year or so to come and see the ship and spend some money in the gift shop to try to help a bit. We both work quite a bit but we always try to make an effort to go once a year. I know it's not much but every dollar helps we don't have a lot but we do try to spend a bit when we go.
Thanks for the video Tom. I noticed Dr. John Scholes in your mount doing the firing countdown. From what you said I take it that the mount can not traverse at present which I believe is done Electro - Hydraulic. Do you have any plans to repair the traversing equipment to make it easier to clean your guns ?
Thank you for the video, i always wonder what the clean up after the salutes was like. Also dang everyones secret wish to fire shells into Fall River has been thwarted.
the pointer (elevation) sits forward and to the left of the left gun while the trainer sits forward and to the right of the right gun loading stations. When Tom pulled the lever to drop the breach block he was right behind the pointers seat.
Well , after Oct 23 when the sale of long guns in the State will be almost entirely prohibited and the new empty roster of what is "permitted" to be owned by the peasants, that would certainly be quite a surprise to many. Best of luck though.
I have heard of that before one 16 inch barrel was fired once while the ship was at battleship cove i also heard a bunch of windows were broken at the same time i believe this to be a rumor You would have to contact the Fall River Herald News for more info
one of these days I hope, I dont care what battleship it is, but I am biased to the Mamie in fall river, the 16 in gun turret salute will somewhere be in "operating condition". Who cares about the neighbors, do it once a year and shake your house to check its structural integrity. Hopefully the Navy with their billions upon billions on top of other billions worth of funding can spare 2 million to make it happen (condescending joke towards the navy) to one of the museum ships. great video, Massachusetts is looking tired, unfortunately. I hope the boards can come together to get funding to make her look better.

I was aboard years ago and met a gentleman who was aboard during the war. He was moving spent casings from one of the mounts.
Appreciate you guys doing this video, thanks. It was interesting and educational
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks GM1 from an old FCC.

This is so cool!
So that’s why you see the iowas during there reactivation, all of the gun houses removed and guns removed they were sent off to be realigned.
Where are the controls for elevating and rotating the 5 inch guns? I didn't see anything in the video.

As a American citizen and mass resident I'm wondering if I can legally own a optional ww2 Era 5 inch duel purpose twin barreled turret?

My dad was transferred to the U.S.S. Lionfish from the U.S.S. Ray after his B-29 was shot down on a mission to bomb Oita airfield.
