See I don't like this because it doesn't matter if you're camping or moving around. These are so loud that two Runners can hear each other and just hold the angle regardless of you don't run silence. And if you only run silence, you either need perk greed, or lawbreaker which drops other perks. A bit louder than MW's steps would be perfect in my opinion. This has so much range that you can hear someone START their fucking flank and track them by audio up till they actually arrive. It's far too much

You know everyone will be using it as well though, don’t you? In the SBMM era of CoD, “no one hears no one” is the exact same thing as “everyone hears everyone”. Why don’t you play without a headset then? You aren’t gonna hear anyone in either case.
@@panagiotiskonstantopoulos8723 uhm well it reduces Camping by A LOT couple that with maps that arent made to catered to camping this game actually feels fun to play while moving not just while sitting in a corner
Parents gonna use a field mic to catch you. Maybe even use a gas grenade to discourage raiding the snack cabinet after you’ve brushed your teeth for the night. 😤
Wear no footwear and walk down the stairs with your feet as far to the side of the steps as you can, the sides are stronger and don't move as much, thus less creaking. Instant Ninja perk
An important thing to note is sliding and dropping/jumping with ninja. To me they are still fairly loud, if they are reduced at all. Several times I've caught people using ninja because they slid or jumped off of something and vice versa.
Thanks for the detailed guide. I don't think ninja is worth running compared to cold blooded or spycraft unless your footsteps are completely silent. I turn my other audio settings to about 50-70 then keep sound effects 100 and use super bass boost works fine for me
It's worth noting that jumping, falling, mantling and anything like that is VERY loud and not dampened by perks. If you're moving around with these perks and methods, do everything you can to avoid leaving the ground or falling onto it because it's very loud.
Ace we appreciate your work so much. You help make Call of duty better and keep the devs honest and accountable for what they put in the game and how it works. I would love to know two things: Does assassin show you on the Radar even if your running ghost and/or your gun is silenced. How do the attachments that offer partial muzzle concealment work (I.E. socom eliminator on the MP5 offers 85% muzzle concealment)
One tip for videos like these: it would be nice if you also showed gunshot sounds right before the footstep sounds, because the volume of gunshot sounds determines how loud I can put my headset before hurting my ears.
Im so glad that ninja is a perk in cold war, the footsteps are as loud as modern warfare and that was one of my biggest complaints of the game when im trying to rush or flank. Trying to unlock ninja was torture .
Great video, great comparisons: I wonder if the footstep audio is still as loud outdoors as it is indoors? Seems to bear less acoustics outside. But then again, if you’re ninja-ing around it’s probably being done indoors anyway. 🍻
I actually really like that Ninja is such an important perk, because the other perks in its catagory are also very important: Spycraft making you immune to Paranoia and able to hack field upgrades is incredible good, Ghost is naturally an incredible perk (even with the stationary downgrade) and Cold Blooded is a must have when dealing with enemy Aircraft in the likes of Dirty Bomb or some of the combined arms mode... despite clearly being the weakest option in slot three. It means you get more people showing up on spyplanes (because they took Ninja over Ghost) and gives people more of an incentive to shoot them down rather than negate them entirely, and overall has a positive effect on game balance. If they nerf it, I genuinely worry about how that will effect the overall flow of the match. For example, Snipers often don't run ninja because they're engaging at long range and prefer ghost/cold blooded/spycraft to be immune to UAV, Thermal Sights or Paranoia, but in doing so they forfeit a huge number of stealth benefits at close range if flanked by a short range player.
They shouldn't remove the loudness, but yeah I do feel reducing the distance you can hear them because gun noise and explosions will make the difference in hearing footsteps in-game.
I wish footsteps were completely silent like in the past. Then we should have a field upgrade that let's you hear all footsteps(even if they are using ninja). So basically the opposite of mw. Cause people getting kills from footsteps is bs imo. It take half the skill out of multiplayer when they can camp and hear people coming
I miss the good old days when sound whoring wasn't a thing and your actual gun skills and map awareness are what determined if you won or lost gun fights
Yee right around COD 4 I remember the first gen turtle beach headset 😂 so many cords but sound whoring was started that day. I was 13 and didn’t have a job so for modern warfare, modern warfare 2 and black ops 1 I always used the head piece the 360 gave us 😂 I had to use dead silence with all my classes so I could hear other footsteps through a tube TV and later on a plasma. Life was good 😌 I tell you what though, playing like that made the radar my best friend my eyes were like 👀 constantly. Anyone that used a counter UAV as a kill steak was an instant targeted enemy
As a knifer in CoD, I would be happy to see crouch walking be more quiet than ADS walking. I rely heavily on being able to sneak up on people, making Ninja my ultimate crutch. Unless they give us ballistic knives that we can ADS somehow... that would be cool.
basically started playing cold war last week and currently lvl 32. Its BRUTAL being the only one in lobbies without ninja. Every killcam is someone hearing me through a wall and ADSing before i can get even remotely near them. only 6 more levels until i can stop crouch walking everywhere because sprinting is almost suicide without ninja. they definitely need to fix the footstep audio asap.
One thing I've noticed about this game compared to MW2019 is how loud your allies' footsteps are. I've turned around hearing what I think is an enemy sprinting near me because of the sound but nope, it's a teammate.
Anyways, I'm excited to see Cold Wars addition into Warzone. Multiplayer, be it MW or CW, just doesn't satisfy me like it used to. I'm glad so many others are still loving it though. The more avenues of enjoyment you have, the better!
Ninja/Dead Silence should be SILENT. Nothing worse than in a SnD match, you flank the enemy only to have them hear you, turn around and preaim you, only because they are sitting in a corner with their headset cranked. That’s not getting outplayed, that’s just the developers straight up being bad at their jobs.
I think it’s fantastic having Ninja be a crutch because that means they either have to give up ghost or run a wild card to have both. It definitely can mess up someone’s class if they opt out of ghost
Nah I opted out of ghost a long time ago (except for satellite/ Miami sniper classes)... Gungho (if perk greed) and Ninja (must) seems to be better.. People in my lobbies atleast are running high teir scorestreaks and counter uavs, not many uavs (even I run Cruise Miss, War Mach and Chopper Gun/Vtol)... Also the uav frequency is not really that high on minimap... for me being agile and quiet is better...
@@flaminG-Ghost I also prefer Gung-ho and Ninja. Being able to run and cook a grenade while running your route is huge! I only play SnD though, so ghost is on everything, but my SMG classes lol
I think everyone NEEDS to run Perk Greed with Tact Mask, Flak Jacket, Gearhead, Ninja, and Ghost. Don’t forget, they HAVE to run this exact wildcard setup
I think it is balanced because of where the perk is. It's with some other useful perks like ghost, spycraft, and cold blooded. So unless you use perkgreed or lawbreaker, you can have more than 2-3 of those 4 perks. If you dont use ghost they can see you when you have a UAV. If they call I'm streaks and you aren't using spycraft or cold blooded you become vulnerable. So all these perks you are sacrificing one thing for another and I think that is balanced.
I have to say, while Ninja as a perk again in CW is nice, I did like MW's approach on Dead Silence better. That being said, I really believe that the next CoD would include Ninja from CW, but also Dead Silence from MW with an added bonus of extended audio reaching capability to make it more distinctive from Ninja.
I love ninja 🥷 I personally don’t think anything needs to change. Maybe the distance that sound registers like you were talking about but it doesn’t bother me too much. I hope they leave Ninja alone tho I don’t think it’s OP I still have people hear me all the time.
Honestly, footstep audio is in a good place currently. I very much notice that sound-hoaring is less integral and crutch in this game than mw, but when hearing this I was surprised how far you could hear these footsteps. Probably could use a decrease in overall distance that you can hear the footsteps.
This aspect of cod cold war is the most realistic in any cod ever. Gonna make snd super difficult. Id like search and rescue as a mode also. I like the thumping thats how it is if u think about it you have ears for a reason and even in airsoft being quiet with footsteps is super hard, if you wana be sneaky then be sneaky approach slowly. Feel the tension
Okay, so feel free to tear at me if you want, but I'm a firm believer that Ninja and perks like it are bad (in the current state) for Cold War. I watched your video on what MW2019 did bad Ace, and on 99% of it I agree. But the one thing that I don't is Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade. I found the inconsistency of it to become a dynamic tool used to streak up and be hyper aggressive in an otherwise slow and campy game, but I 100% agree that it was misplaced in MW2019, and hell, it probably would be in CW too. The issue is, in my opinion, map design. The designer continue to make maps where the game plays slower because of positions that people can play easily with minimal counter play minus a very very limited flank to great effect. I'm not a whiny guy, I don't mind the occasional spawn trap and I do it myself, but on maps like Nuketown '84, Moscow, and Crossroads Strike, the simple fact is that most people play the game slower due to MAP DESIGN, not perks. Likewise, I personally think that having to earn your dead silence, even if it has a relatively short cooldown, is better than always having a "watered down version", and I quote watered down because let's be honest, 90% of the community isn't swimming in cash to buy anything other than headsets that'll pick up footsteps nicely if they're in your face but not a moment sooner with Ninja and all the other nonsense going on in the 6v6 maps, much less 12v12 or God forbid Dirty Bomb. I know, this was long and roundabout, but what I personally wish is that the developers would make nice, linear maps with flanks and three lanes and not add all these unnecessary places and angles and power positions to an already saturated area (i.e. Nuketown's double head glitch on B and the likes) and then wonder why players complain that people camps even though they added Ninja as a perk instead of a field upgrade. If that were the case, I think earned DS wouldn't be so bad, and it would remove the crutchiness of current Ninja as a whole. And I've played MW2019 search a lot, it was one of the only modes I had fun in because the dynamic of the DS field upgrade was shown not only by the plays you could make with it, but how an equally smart player could shut it down with a well placed piece of equipment or angle held. Edit: Fixing some punctuation and Grammer!
I feel like default or high boost is best for clearly hearing enemy footsteps through all the other sounds in game for enemies out in the open of basically not obstructed by a wall. When they get behind a wall, I feel like the bass or super bass boosts are superior as the sounds of them walking are already very bassy (if that's a word) and this just further amplifies the footsteps
Also a thing to note is that ninja does not seem to affect jumping. If you jump aim/shoot around corners. The enemy can clearly hear you jumping. Yet, another technique that we can not use against campers 🥺🥺
you can change minimap setting so you can see a constant red dot going through your minimap, then you can compare the sound to how close your test subject is from the other side of the wall
i personally think that the occlusion isn’t strong enough, so many times i’ll think that an enemy is right near me but in reality they’re behind a nuclear blast door and forgot to run ninja one day
The fact you can audibly hear someone clearly from 60 feet is just absurd, people complained about MWs footstep audio when this is 30x louder from further away lol. No wonder im getting pre-fired every single time I get around a corner if Im not running ninja.
Since nuketown came out, I'm 100% always the one with most objectives obtained, sometimes even more than all the rest of my team combined. It's like somehow my teammates don't see the letter B on top of the point like I do.
My go to weapons are the QBZ-83 and the AK47 The QBZ_83 had the fastest ADS of all the assault rifles more like a smg. I only play hardcore though so any weapon kills really.
Footsteps are fine, except perhaps in non respawn modes. Once you factor in all of the other footsteps you'll hear plus everything else, anything outside of 20-25 meters will probably not provide meaningful information. I'm not sure if there's a way to balance that once non respawn modes are factored in, though

Thank you Ace, you just upped my k/d ratio by 12% (estimate). I’m now aim walking everywhere.
can't wait for your Krig gun guide!
@9:17 that looked like flinch Ace I thought you said it was mainly visual 😳
I love ninja 🥷 I personally don’t think anything needs to change. Maybe the distance that sound registers like you were talking about but it doesn’t bother me too much. I hope they leave Ninja alone tho I don’t think it’s OP I still have people hear me all the time.
I think that high boost is the best.
Honestly, footstep audio is in a good place currently. I very much notice that sound-hoaring is less integral and crutch in this game than mw, but when hearing this I was surprised how far you could hear these footsteps. Probably could use a decrease in overall distance that you can hear the footsteps.
Hey, i would really love to see a video about muzzle flash concealment. So the difference between 90% to 100% for example. Would be great:)
Thanks! Very informative. 👍
I think the footstep audio is perfect!
Also a thing to note is that ninja does not seem to affect jumping. If you jump aim/shoot around corners. The enemy can clearly hear you jumping. Yet, another technique that we can not use against campers 🥺🥺
Good vid.
The only thing you didn't cover is crouch ADSing, is that better than ADSing and how much?
you can change minimap setting so you can see a constant red dot going through your minimap, then you can compare the sound to how close your test subject is from the other side of the wall
I never realized how quiet footsteps were made with ninja until my idiot teammate in nuketown was running around like a donkey without it
What about crouch ads walking? Since ninja wouldn't be active, would it even out?
i personally think that the occlusion isn’t strong enough, so many times i’ll think that an enemy is right near me but in reality they’re behind a nuclear blast door and forgot to run ninja one day
The fact you can audibly hear someone clearly from 60 feet is just absurd, people complained about MWs footstep audio when this is 30x louder from further away lol.
No wonder im getting pre-fired every single time I get around a corner if Im not running ninja.
Ninja should make you 100% silent in all situations. It should be a true Dead Silence like in the popular CODs of the past.
Since nuketown came out, I'm 100% always the one with most objectives obtained, sometimes even more than all the rest of my team combined. It's like somehow my teammates don't see the letter B on top of the point like I do.
Im honestly not even gunna complain about it. They got it as right as you can expect after a year of dead silence as a field upgrade.
My go to weapons are the QBZ-83 and the AK47 The QBZ_83 had the fastest ADS of all the assault rifles more like a smg. I only play hardcore though so any weapon kills really.
Should do a follow up video of movement on different surfaces; metal, concrete, sand, etc. and how/if ninja makes a difference.
Footsteps are fine, except perhaps in non respawn modes. Once you factor in all of the other footsteps you'll hear plus everything else, anything outside of 20-25 meters will probably not provide meaningful information. I'm not sure if there's a way to balance that once non respawn modes are factored in, though
Nice vid 👍
Ninja should be 100% silent wtf
But then that wouldn't reward bad players that camp all game.
I'm fine with people being able to hear me with ninja on. If they want to rape their ears they can go ahead.
The footsteps on Ninja are louder than on Warzone...They need to decrease the Ninja footsteps by 35% minimum
