Instead, the geniuses at Ferrari opted to keep him out for another lap by which point he'd lost positions. You could argue that only Vettel's torpedo moment on Max saved them from yet more post-race flak.

In the post race interviews.. Leclerc was like.. Austria was an eye-opener for him. We can expect to see a much more aggreesive Leclerc from now on.

Nah, I still like clean racing, both should be more respectful to each other. You see, the moment these two had collided in Austria or in Silverstone, the whole overtake/attempt suddenly feels dirty, feels illegitimate, both drivers will argue, the whole internet will argue, FIA will be forced to make a decision, and the whole internet will go against the decision. Instead of admiring one's racing skills, we complain about FIA's decisions, penalties, or whatever.
@lange darm Agreed. The one knock I had against him was that his racecraft seemed just a little bit TOO clean and lacked some of the killer instinct that many of the sport's greatest exemplified. At some point, he had to learn to get the elbows out, and my god did he get those elbows out at Silverstone.
It was like watching a whole new driver, and I'm sure Max was surprised to have someone he couldn't just shove out of the way like he's used to with his sensationally aggressive daredevil overtaking.

@@flexygoo1295 i think it could be 2021 already. with the new regulations i think they will be competing for the WDC and not only them. I think Norris and Russel will have a go too. Maybe Albon will join the fight too and grab some wins. I wasnt there in the "glory days of F1" but this seems like the biggest and best grid so far. a lot of likable drivers with great talent. Lets hope Russel will get a seat somewhere better next year or that Williams will step up their game.

unfortunately its near-impossible to make an overtake if you ahve the weaker engine... ferrari obviously still the strongest engine out there can easily pull away on the straight even though the red bull was clearly the faster car on sunday.
Malaysia and Turkey are good. Baku as well
Some of the best racing also happens in Tilke tracks. (Bahrein was a quite interesting race and current Austria track was design by him too).

He was way over the line on multiple occasions in my opinion: moving late, that time when they touched there was absolutely no way that LeClerc was going to make that corner (and he didn't), etc., etc.
I thought Max was incredibly restrained not to complain more. Great race and great spectacle, but I think Max will not let himself get banged around by LeClerc a 2nd time. He will work really hard to avoid this BS going forward. Fair racing is ok. Hard racing is OK. Having a maniac (LeClerc) drive with too much emotion for his own good is not OK.

@@JimmyGSB Leclerc is logically consistent. He does his job, within the legal limits, and relies on stewards doing theirs setting those limits. He didn't think such violent fighting was legal but in Austria, the stewards ruled that it is. So he is within his right to shove Max around the track, bump and drive him off if they said that this is allowed.

Important comments from Leclerc after the race,
saying it was the most fun he ever had in a race car and the stewards in Austria made him that aggressive as it was labeled okay over there. So he was not afraid to race hard. Which is exactly as it should be. Hopefully this theme will continue, hard racing.
The drivers have the possibility to make this the norm again and stop the soft bullshit, and this race along with Austria was great steps in the right direction. Both in terms of racing
But just as important, the drivers comments afterwards, no one complaining or being a bitch, but on the contrary, supportive. Excellent!

Leclerc wasn’t at pit speed, and when Verstappen got released Leclerc had been released a small fraction earlier.
Still watching this video 2 years later. Leclerc respects but for sure does not fear Max like some other drivers do. I just hope both drivers (as well as Russell and Norris) have competitive cars to race like that week in week out.
Watching this back in 2024, I miss this so much, it was simply epic!

Leclerc is also as aggressive as max
He just doesn't get as much stick as max
In this race he was weaving in most braking points (just as max used to do in 2017,18 but got alot of stick for it)

After the Imola sprint race, there is no doubt that the best fights come from these 2. No political fight like between Max and Lewis, but fair and hard racing between Max and Leclerc. I hope Red Bull can fix there problems because this one will be more thrilling than 2021.
