It is the frontline of the war on drugs - and it is a battle authorities are losing.
Afghanistan's poppy fields, which feed the habits of drug addicts worldwide, are thriving, with cultivation of the crop hitting record highs last year.
With NATO troops pulling out and local law enforcement agencies ill-equipped and underfunded, production looks set to increase even further.
The number of Afghan addicts is soaring and with the Taliban funded by the drug trade, security fears are paramount.
101 East travels to fields where poppies grow and meets the local officers responsible for stemming the flow of drugs to the world.

No...no good advice...she have to help her own people...Drug Addicted people could be found in any country. Someone have to help them...i had 4 brothers who died from heroin addiction in 30 years old. It is really bad habit....and big stress to all.

there are many fallen ones like him in this paradise my friend, for example me i dont have any addictions and i have good skills but cant find a good job in Bangladesh because things hard here , i don't know, maybe we are not that blessed and born with sufferings and survival worse survival than jungle

@@ries3554 i am graduate and i have 4.6 years of professional Corporate job experience its so hard to save money here country is corrupt badly and no government facilities for citizens , house rent ,family ,medical costs consume all i earn live is really hard and i am sad to think about future which is like a old man living homeless, it will take 5000 USD i i want to travel Belgium bad i am trying to save money since last 4 years but its hard very hard from my situation.

AFGHANISTAN WAS ONCE A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND TODAY IT LOOKS LIKE THE LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY
Here is what they aren't explaining. Afghanistan has 4 large cities. Kabul which you see here had 4.4 million people. Herat out west has 638,000, Mazar e Sharif has about 500,000 and Khandahar the population is 614,000 at the most this city population only accounts for 6-7 million of a population of 38 million. So most of the population doesn't live in the cities and this is one reason why. So most of the population probably does not have this problem. Also all of this Opium and Heroine is going to Europe not the US or Kabul. this is just the leftovers. As the British were able to successfully limit Opium getting into Europe and so more of the local population began to be targeted by Traffickers. Now that Brittish are gone the Opium and Heroine traffick leaving has now increased and local Opium is now probably more expensive.
It's still mostly a beautiful country this is in the big city with 4.4 million people. Most of Afghanistans population lives in spread out rural populations that grow but don't used their drugs.

Doesn't it seem strange that it used to be Thailand, Laos and Cambodia where the biggest producers of heroin when the U.S. military was in Vietnam. Now there in Afghanistan and it is now the biggest producer heroin. Seems to me where the U.S.military goes the heroin trade comes right behind them to be protected and supported by them. Where is all that cash going cuz somebody is cashing in big time.

Sadly, some of us addicts fit into everyday life. For 5 years I didnt miss a hit and then one day my wife found out. Now I'm on my own, lost my wife, 2 kids and I've just about lost everything else. Trying my best to get clean.

The new figures showed production had increased more than four-fold in 15 years: now opium was being grown on 328,000 hectares - 1,266 square miles.

Studies show animals under stress or unhappy conditions are highly susceptible to abusing opiates...looks like I'd be tempted to shoot up also in that situation...at least for the time you high you can escape reality ..opiates are miraculous in that regard...you can be extremely happy in the worst conditions with opiates in your tool box

Life is about survival and the more of us they kill, the less wealth they have to spread around and share. Kill off you competition and its more for the top %2. The super rich have no desire to share and spread around the available wealth. Greed is in charge of mans minds and soul. The more you feed the more they breed and the competition for what is available becomes fierce. A ton of money is being made in starting wars and killing people. Just like they can make people sick and get super rich curing them. People are just tools and pawns the smart and the rich rulers use for their own amusement and money fountains and can be sent to die once the order is given. We are just a number and only the rich matter. Money talks not people. The sick sadistic rulers of this world have no problem destroying their own planet and all its living things in order to try to win a war. That is how evil the human cancer virus is. God should be ashamed of himself for creating man in the first place. The devil has the upper hand at this time. We have destroyed countless ecosystems and over 900 species. Soon it will be our turn to be extinct.

From my prospective, if the farmers get sustainable alternative than they will never cultivate opium. Just cash for work and other short term programs will not work. unemployment is big challenge, less return of other crops as compare with opium is another problem, cheap price of vegetable, fruits, and grain.
The real problem is demand. As long as demand stays high production and revenue will follow.
Just buy the product and destroy it would be the cheapest realistic solution

I am a Pakistani but i cried to see the situation of Afghanistan's capital Kabul where there is more than three million opium addicted people. It's very harsh situation to understand because from one side Afghan puppet government support to cultivate poppy in country in other side they have world highest number of opium addicted people. If you look at the situation of Pakistan where billion of dollar Afghan producted opium burned by security forces every year. Pakistan should completely fence border with Afghanistan because if Pakistanis are indulge in these drugs addiction it may become a worst and dying situation to deal for Pakistan. Pakistan government and security authorities should negotiates with Afghanistan to please for God sake stop poppy cultivation. It isn't only destroying Afghanistan but it's worst for whole human being. Pakistan zindabad pak army zindabad.
