Following the arrest of Afghan heroin baron, Haji Bashir Noorzai, we bring back the award-winning report which first exposed him. It contains excellent undercover footage of the Kandahar opium markets.
On the streets of Sangin, it is business as usual for the opium wholesalers and brokers. "We buy it from the farmers here and then we take it to the Iranian border," comments one local dealer. At $800 a kilo, opium is too lucrative to ignore and the traders are relieved the Americans show no intention of closing down their operations. "You take away opium and you suck the oxygen out of this economy," says Michael Ware of Time magazine.

I do agree that there will always be some kind of criminal activity revolving around the drug war but it can definitely be reduced. The reason the state doesn't just legalize it is cause they are also earning hella money from it.

Just a bit of info in relation to Haji Bashir Noorzai the convicted former Afghan drug lord in this. He was an early supporter of the Taliban movement, and later worked as an undercover agent on behalf of the U.S. government. Despite being among America's most wanted drug traffickers, he agreed to come to New York City for a debriefing after being promised by his handlers that he would not be arrested. He was arrested ten days after his arrival. Dirty politics or what.

After high school I enrolled in the local community college. I took a class in AutoCAD and had an Army vet as a classmate. One day I struck up a conversation with him and he eventually started showing me pictures of his time in the Middle East. He had many pictures of him standing next to fields of an unknown crop. I curiously asked him what those pictures were about. This was his response. "We would stand guard around poppy fields to protect the crop". Years later after becoming addicted to Heroin I had a realization one day. Big Pharma needs this crop to produce the opiates for their Vicodin, Percocets and Phentanyl that eventually make their way into some young suburburban white kids arm. Haha But the average citizen has his door kicked in and sent to jail if he/she possessed the SAME EXACT product as Big Pharma. Why? BECAUSE IF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT CANT TAX THE DRUG MAN THEN " Its bad for the people", BUT IF THEY CAN MAKE MONEY FROM IT THEN ITS JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL DESPITE THE ADDIXTS DROPPING LIES FLIES IN OHIO, PHILLY, JERSEY, AND EVERYWHERE ELSE IN US CITIES. This is completely incorrect. I understand the sentiment of not trusting the US government and Big Pharma but if something is incorrect, I got to stay objective and straighten this out. In case you were interested, I also had a decades long heroin habit (a habit of mine which was functional until it wasn't) and have tried many different regions of heroin, certainly in all of the US states. But I digress. I am not going to focus on personal anecdotes here. But for the record, I am 7 years clean today. Now with that out of the way..
Around 99% of the heroin coming into the USA does not come from Afghanistan. The vast majority of heroin is sourced via Mexico (mostly Black), Colombia (powder), and to a *much lesser* extent, South East Asia (powder, main consumer market being Canada). No real pipelines of Afghan Heroin have existed in the US. Not during the Global War on Terror at least.
The destination of Afghan Heroin has always been the European consumer market. In other words, the Afghan Heroin is consumed by Europeans. Not Americans. And the much of, if not all Afghan is #3 heroin, not #4 (or Tar in the case of the US West Coast). That right there should tell you, as basically all US heroin is either #4 (a water-soluble HCL salt), or Tar (a mix of 3 and 6-Monoacetylmorphine). Not #3, which is base heroin.
As for Big Pharma (which did indeed kickstart the US opioid crisis but not with heroin), there was a multilateral initiative to stem the illicit Afghan heroin flow into Europe by instead having Big Pharma purchase the opium (for processing into Pharmaceuticals such as the codones and the morphones), but it was eventually shot down by a committee and never saw fruition. As for the oxycodone and whatnot, the vast majority of the opioid feedstock (Eg. Thebaine for Oxycodone) comes from places like Tanzania.
So to say it again, there never was any Afghan Heroin in the US (not any significant quantities anyways). It was and still is mostly Mexican (West Coast Tar) and Colombian (East Coast Powder) we were using.
The reason the US military guarded the poppy crops was due to a change in policy amidst the "Hearts and Minds" initiative (trying to gain the Afghan locals trust). Prior to this, the US and the Afghan government were tearing and burning down opium poppy crops whenever they found them. As it turned out, destroying the livelihoods of those you are claiming to be "protecting" wasn't working out. Go figure. /s
Anyone who served in say, the South of Afghanistan (say, Helmand Province) would be able to back up every single thing I just said. Again, I understand not trusting the US government and all that (I sure don't) but we got to keep it real. There is no grand conspiracy here, just an urban legend with no real basis. Got to keep it real people.

I have an understanding that controlling the production of opium is beneficial to all the countries of this world for medications that are made with the opium, of course, it's a business. Every country looks at controlling or dictating how the opium should be handled. Keeping the poor at bay and closed in is a strategy providing little or no resources for massive financial gain and if a country does not agree with their demands then they are called enemies threatening the stability of the world.

Obviously, the NATO forces were in Afghanistan for men-hunting ony; thus having their fun and their sports while fulfilling their duties. Under their roof the drug-barons would establish a dictature of drug- lords with local people as their addicts. Through the huge profits a military terror-machinery would control the entire land till mission Afghanistan is completed and the troops leave jusr before the exhausted people would destroy each other out of desperation, hunger and basic needs unfulfilled.

Unfortunately, Hajji Bashir was arrested in 2005, and charged under the Kingpin Act in 2008 in the US, which is a minimum life sentence. This is odd because that means the US somehow knew and was able to put a case against him and his underlings showing he sent heroin here to the US and his people sold it here. I don't believe that. He sold to people but not in the US. There were people who brought it to the US. The US Government purchased raw opium for their drugs to create Morphine, Vicodin, and similar products. They set him up somehow. He was released in 2022 September for a prisoner exchange swap Mark Frerichs US civil engineer kidnapped 2020.

The US didn't came to America to fight the war on drugs. Destroying the fields make the opium farmers starve. Since almost everyone in Afghanistan is armed and these farmers have at least a ak47 at home destroying the fields would mean the us soldiers wouldn't be able to go outside the cities without being attacked by these farmers. You have to keep in mind that they aren't the taliban. Of course some people profited from the drug trade but if you keep in mind why the us was there not making farmers starve and getting involved in a war against a massive part of the rural population wasn't that stupid.

Most of which is passed to Europe and USA. It ies through Pakistan. Moreover, the Cynide is replaced by another formula. The new products like Ice are available in the market. • @getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917
      @getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917 3 года назад +3

      I will tell you. Comprehensively.
Prior to the US invasion of Afghanistan when the Taliban took control, they implemented their version of Sharia Law, which includes the use and production of drugs such as heroin as being Haram. So they destroyed the industry by force. They also banned modern technology, music, as well as other facets of life.
Then came the US/British invasion of Afghanistan, as well as the decision by the Taliban to continue the drug trade and opium poppy cultivation in order to *fund their war against the Coalition.* And the cultivation will more than likely end once the Coalition leaves Afghanistan. Or it might not.
This isn't a new phenomena. This is occurring with insurgent groups via civil wars across the world in order to fund their insurgency.
*I will copy-paste a comment I made earlier, towards another commenter who incorrectly claimed that the US Opiate Epidemic was started by the invasion of Afghanistan.*
      ---Start---
The Opiate Epidemic has very little to do with the invasion of Afghanistan.....
It has everything to do with the Pharmaceutical companies' propensity in the 90's-2000's towards easy access of opioid Pain Killers and the phenomena of doctor-shopping through the lack of legislation surrounding it.
The source of Thebaine (the opiate alkaloid used to manufacture Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Oxymorphone, Hydromorphone etc) which started the epidemic, as well as Codeine and Morphine was never sourced from Afghanistan, but rather via legal domestic (US) crops as well as recently, foreign LEGAL suppliers such as *Tasmania.* NOT AFGHANISTAN. The International Council on Security and Development has proposed legalizing opium production in Afghanistan for legal industries such as pharmaceutical companies in order to draw away funds from the Taliban, but it was shot down (years ago)......
The current US Heroin epidemic (late 2000's-Present, which has stemmed from legislation restricting access to said Pharmaceutical Opioids) has several sources (Latin America), but NONE of them are from Afghanistan. The Afghan Heroin Trade is predominately focused on export towards Europe. Not North America.
I hate all of these quasi-intellectual/conspiricy theorists on RUclips. You are drawing parallels with absolutely no facts whatsoever and people eat it up as if "they know something that others don't".
      ---End---
Instead of being prone to conspiracy theories, I implore you to comprehensively study history and avoid the pit-falls of taking the easy way out via Ignorance.
