So good by Lucas to have Padme say, "There's good in him" while baby Luke is there in Obi-Wan's arms. Such a great moment. The only thoughts and feelings Luke carries on from his mother are that there is still good in Vader. Perfect storytelling by Lucas.

    • @KS-cz9qc
      @KS-cz9qc 3 года назад +18

Yes! That would’ve shaken me as Obi-Wan, hearing the exact words that Luke’s mother had spoken all those years ago.
I like to think that Luke unknowingly does this again when he tells Vader “Come with me,” on Endor, since Padme said those exact words to Anakin when pleading for him to leave everything and go with her. Vader responds to Luke by saying Obi-Wan once thought as he did, but I wonder if this was partly an attempt to block out the memory of that moment when Padme had asked the same thing of him.
It’s also interesting that when Luke states that Vader will be forced to kill him, Vader’s response is far more hesitant, as if remembering Padme’s fate. When Luke persists in appealing to the good in his father, Anakin’s spirit seemingly breaks through for a moment and admits his own despair, that it is too late to turn back. In his mind, he cannot go with Luke even if he wanted to, he can see no way out. Yet in admitting this, we all catch a glimpse of what Luke and Padme believed: “There is still good in him.”

That line has nothing to do with The Last Jedi.
The line is about how Luke rushes of to face Vader, because he thinks hes ready because he isn't afraid, when really, like Yoda says in Return of the Jedi, Luke wasn't ready, and that's why he wasn't prepared when Vader revealed the truth to him in Cloud City.
I tried my best to explain it.

The end when he stared out at Ak-tu's sky, with twin suns like that of Tatooine, the binary Sunset theme that started him on his journey accompanying him at his end, was especially beautiful.

"Pass on what you have learned." Yoda- Return if the Jedi
That line now has a whole new meaning because of the last Jedi.
Luke (and us, the audience) thought that it simply meant to teach a new generation the ways of the Jedi. So he did....
    But it failed.
He as a person changed because of the weight of the responsibility that was put on his shoulders. He was so overwhelmed by this, that he became as paranoid as the Jedi in the prequels. No matter how pure hearted someone is, that would easily alter them as a person.
So, he ended up making the same mistake that the Jedi have always made. He was so afraid of the dark side returning, that he unintentionally created the dark side itself.
So when he realized this was not only his mistake, but the mistake of the Jedi as a whole, he wrongfully thought that it would be best if the Jedi simply ceased to exist. And disappeared to die alone, as the last Jedi. This is the same destructive mentality that is driving Kylo Ren further and further from reality. They're both so caught up in the old ways dying, that they can't see the mistakes that they're making in the present. ("Always looking off into the horizon. Never focusing on where he was. What he was doing.")
So when Yoda confronts Luke for the final time in TLJ, he reinforces what he had told him before, and also clarifies what it meant. He tells him that he's still too caught up in what will happen, that he can't see what's right in front of him. (In front of your nose.) And that he still must do what he instructed him to do all those years ago. To pass on what he has learned. Both the ways of the Jedi.... and their mistakes. Or else this endless cycle of conflict will continue for eternity.
"Pass on what you have learned." This one line is now probably the most important line in the star wars saga. It links all three trilogies together, and gives each one a purpose, and a reason to exist. (Even phantom menace)
People say that the sequel trilogy has no reason to exist, but I have to disagree. If it was simply the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, and the prequels never existed, then they would be right. But in reality, if you include the prequel trilogy, Return if the Jedi is not a satisfying ending. Sure, it may resolve the core plot of the conflict between a father and his son, and the rise and fall of an evil empire, but thematically, it doesn't solve the third major piece of the story which the prequels created:
That the Jedi are flawed, and are a major reason why the dark side always returns. If you watch the movies chronologically (which is what George Lucas intended) the first trilogy (the prequels) introduces all of these themes, which are not resolved, and then the second act (the original trilogy) doesn't even touch on them. If that were the ending, then nothing would be resolved. The audience is just left thinking that Luke will pass on the ways of the Jedi, and the constant cycle of good versus evil will continue. But the sequel trilogy is now finally addressing that.
I recommend any star wars fan to watch the entire saga chronologically from episode 1 to episode 8 (then 9 when it's released) sure it cheapens the Vader reveal, and a few other things, but overall it gives a better sense of what the full picture really is.
I admit that The Last Jedi is a very flawed movie, but I don't think that means that it's bad. On its own, I consider it pretty good to average, but alongside the entire rest of the series, I strongly believe that this is a great movie. But that's just my stance on it. You don't have to agree.
If you've somehow managed to find this and read through all of it, then thank you and I hope that I made a decent point.

    • @HeroesFanProductions
      @HeroesFanProductions  6 лет назад +149

What a fantastic analysis my friend. I'm so glad that there's at least a few people that try to think in this light even when knowing how flawed The Last Jedi was. This perspective gives Luke and Ben at least some good depth that may have been easy to miss within the other unnecessary subplots in the movie. As Master Yoda said, "The greatest teacher, failure is." May the Force be with you.

I think TLJ was way better than most people realized. I keep hearing charges that it broke the Star Wars lore but I think it was perfectly fitting the grand theme; Hope.
Hope was lost when Luke went into hiding, ashamed that for a split second, the murder of his own student that was also the son of his best friend was a tempting idea.
Not letting oneself be consumed by fear and anger (aka "the path that leads to the dark side") is everydays work, not a decision you make once and for all.

  • @psycholonya

The Jedi told Luke to kill his father, that there was no other way. Luke proved them wrong, proved the Jedi ways were flawed, and returned his father to the light side despite the Jedi telling him it was impossible. That’s why Luke is *the* master Jedi, not only did he master the ways of the force but he evolved the Jedi for the better- and redeemed one of the most evil beings in the galaxy.

It's not complicated inf act it's an idiot plot and it's not deep and it never had to make everyone from the originals complete useless failures.

So many people hate on Luke, calling him a whiner. Allow me to bring your awareness to something; All of the major characters are whiners. Han, Leia, Chewy, 3PO, even R2. Even when Luke did whine, I always saw it as totally relatable and/or justifiable given his upbringing. But in Return of the Jedi, Luke didn't whine once when all the others still did.

Anakin Skywalker was my favorite character of the prequels. Even though I knew he was to become Darth Vader it wasn't until he actually turned in Episode III that it really hit me. Not to sound corny but it truly broke my heart when he turned. That said the editing of images between Anakin and Darth Vader are true genius. Every time the word "father" is uttered we see cutaways from Anakin to Vader it is making me very emotional. Well done.

Loved the video! It was so well done and unlike most people it has seemingly enhanced by already deep appreciation for Luke’s character and conclusion in TLJ. I hope you find the time to create another video that includes the Last Jedi because now we have seen the end of Luke’s journey. Once again loved the video great work!
One aspect about Luke I want to go into is his decision to not face Kylo in person. If you recall in ANH Obi-Wan says the line “you can’t win, but there are always alternatives to fighting”. Yoda also offers the lesson that “a Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never attack”. What’s important is that Luke never learned this lesson and it is one of the things Yoda and Obi repeatedly call him out on. It is his greatest flaw. Consistently throughout the OT, Luke always gives into his first instinct to fight and use his power offensively. Luke brings his weapons into the Dagobah cave and strikes down Vader, he goes to face Vader on Bespin and ignites his saber first, he tries to strike down the Emperor out of fear and hate, he unleashed a furious barrage of offensive strikes when battling Vader until he almost killed him, and he almost struck down Ben Solo in fear of what he would become. This instinct has benefitted Luke at times, but it also symbolized his most vulnerable and weakest moments in his life. It was the source of his constant battle with the temptation toward the dark side. He never utilized the lesson of passiveness taught to him and always gave into his impulsiveness. Luke’s decision to not go and battle Kylo Ren is the moment when Luke learns from his mistakes and uses the teachings Obi and Yoda taught him long ago. By not fighting, Luke is finally able to overcome his fear of the dark side. By not fighting, he achieves a sense of self-purpose and peace he had never felt. By not fighting, he discovers the value that the true ways of the Jedi could have on his soul. Though Luke might have pretended to be a master following ROTJ, he still had much to learn and obstacles to overcome. Now that he had conquered his greatest fear and learned his final lesson from Obi and Yoda, he had no more to learn and no more obstacles in his way. So he fades into the force just like his mentors before him. Joining them not as a student, but as a fellow master. Finally, Luke has become a master of the Jedi.

“Remember, a Jedi’s strength flows from the Force.” Always gave me goosebumps that Yoda strains to tell Luke such a simple fact as he’s about to pass on. The Sith rely on their passion and emotions, the Jedi’s strength flows from the Force itself.

That would destroy his character by doing one of many things that go against the Jedi it makes sense for Vader coz he is sith it would've made even worse fan service than Yoda vs Dooku in the prequels

@@grey3247 The Jedi were never a bunch of pacifists. Obi-wan hacks off a guy's arm in the first movie. There's be nothing out of character about Luke defeating a bunch of first order soldiers. Especially since, you know, they could have always had him do it without killing them. If they really wanted to make him adopt a no-kill policy. Which was never a policy of the original Jedi order, just to be clear.

The biggest thing that gets me is how we tend to judge the choices he made when we have not been through the same experiences.
How we tend to think that our hero's are one dimensional and never make mistakes. In the end, he redeemed himself, just like he redeemed his father, and none of us can judge him for how he chose to do that!

Marvelous tribute! I'm so sad. Seeing this after the Last Jedi... it hurts si much.
Never, ever, Luke would have try to kill Ben...
Also I would have loved some flashbacks in Luke's mind about the good times with his nephew in Last Jedi. Seeing Ben laugh with him, playing together, having Luke taking his nephew in his arm with Han and Leia when little.... So much could have make people cry and feel with him the sorrow of Luke. Instead we have space cows. ..
    Continue your beautiful work !

Luke used the darkside to defeat Vader and stopped himself just before the final blow. Not that hard to believe it could happen again

Since I was a young boy, I looked at Luke Skywalker as my hero. Now as a man, I still favor him as my favorite hero.
There are many heroes from stories all over, but his story is by far the best, and this tribute video is worthy.

So let me say that I have been a Star Wars fan for SOOOOOO many years. With the division that has been caused by TLJ, I feel that your tribute to Luke Skywalker put that movie into a lot more perspective. I am not a fan of TLJ personally, but the editing and background music of your tribute really puts this above anything else I have seen on RUclips. You should be proud of this!!!! IMHO this should be a must watch prior to watching The Last Jedi. Again, BRAVO to you, well done!!

This video shows more respect to the Luke character and his life than the entire Disney fanfiction of SW trilogy. Love it to the end.

to you three commenters...I felt Luke learnt nothing in his 30 years between SW6 and 7. I might be blind by the Dark Side, but Luke could have ended in a far more powerful and meaningful way.

How is he blind when Disney has made Luke the weakest main character in the entire SW universe? Even Jar Jar is a stronger character than him now.

canmani2 And it's comments like this that show how crazy "some" of you are. There is no way on earth Luke would ever be worse than Jar Jar, so clearly you're just butthurt that you didn't get your OP Luke that kills 2,000 guys.
