Watani, a fitting song for us of Assyrian, Chaldean and Syriac descent who've been ripped from the earth of our ancestors and are destined to be forgotten in the unknown.
All the more heart-breaking hearing this from Abeer, herself of the same descent. But oh so beautiful...
Abeer is Lebanese. She is not nationless, she can go to her ancestors land whenever it pleases her.
As the previous comment said she abeer as labanese no matter what her ethnicity or race is can always return to lebanon , the same thing applies to Jordanian people from all ethnicities and syria before the war , and even now however syria is not safe for anyone as there is authoritarian dictatorship and there's also isre ali occupation of golan heights and there's both American and Russian military bases in there which destabilize the country even more not to mention that isre al constant bombing of Damascus and other parts of syria .
Actually i am following a syriac Syrian named faya who sings both in syriac and Arabic .
And i even know minorities especially in Iraq who all lives ad iraqis , who ever iraq have never been the same since the American invasion .
And she sings this songs which the original version was performed by firouz about loving someones country no matter what ethnicity you are or identify as or religion you belong to ( fun fact about fairouz she was neutral about the civil war and never took sides and also hoped for the end of isr eali invasion of both Lebanon and Palestine )
Also the timing of this songs comes as Isr eal invades Lebanon and its attempts to resettle zio nist jew ish in the south ( who claim that god gave them the land and the inheritance and properties of others from the Euphrates to the nile to Arabia ) and kick Lebanese out of their country .

حقيقة طالما رأيت أغاني فيروز، أغاني خاصة بها، لا يمكن غنائها من أي فنان (ربما ما عدا ملحم بركات، في أغنية "كان الزمان وكان"). وأرى أنه من يغني لفيروز، يقلل من شأن ذاته. حتى إم كلثوم ممكن أن يغنى لها، وفيروز لا. فتأتي الفنانة عبير نعمة، وتكسر هذه القاعدة، هي الوحيدة التي غنت لفيروز، وأنصفت الأغنية، بمستوى صوتها العالي وقدراتها الغنائية الباهرة. طبعًا أتكلم عن مستوى الأداء وليس خامة الصوت وطابع عبير المميز. كل الاحترام للفنانة عبير نعمة، أتمنى أن تغني أكثر لفيروز، وطبعًا لذاتها أيضًا.
