Rats (especially pet rats) are actually very clean animals, they groom themselves very thoroughly! Don't go getting bit by them, but otherwise they are quite clean and very smart!
@Dino Earth mice are pretty clean too. One of my lab coworkers went around asking everyone if they had a superpower that allowed them to know the genotype of a mouse by licking it would they use it. I was an absolute yes lol.
When I was a kid we kept a dead fish of mine in the freezer for months… it was my first pet so I didn’t wanna flush it, I wanted to give it a proper burial. And he just hung out in a ziploc bag in water/ice, and I think maybe the ice was what made it not weird to my fifth grade self? But recently my cat passed (first pet as an adult), and I refused to leave him at the vet’s clinic after putting him down. But it was like, 9pm in January and pissing rain. Thankfully the ground doesn’t really freeze where I live, but he still had to go somewhere for the night. I almost put him in my freezer and I’m so glad that my aunt convinced me out of it. I’m not sure where she and my uncle put him for the night before I went over to bury him the next day, but at least he was still in his little cardboard coffin and it was in good enough shape to carry and bury. I’m definitely thankful for my time working at a funeral home before having to bury my cat tho. Certainly made everything seem much less weird. (But also more weird. No shade to getting your loved ones’ fingerprints, but I just couldn’t ask for a paw print. Most of its digital now, not done with an ink pad, but It just feels like morbid arts and crafts to me, and I couldn’t consent to that done to my loved one. But for context, I’m also against embalming. I like as natural a death and decomp as possible.) But yeah - all that to say.. I’d be fucking livid if I found out there was a dead rat in my freezer for months without my knowledge. I’d be more okay with it if I had been given the chance to have informed consent about it, which would include knowing how many layers it’s wrapped in before going in the freezer. As miles as said- I think it’d be okay if I was in several bags and a sealable container. Or maybe the compromise would be like my fish- to make an ice barrier around it in a container and a bag. This is why I just physically can’t live with roommates anymore.
I fart and dedicate them to my children. I'll fart and then pick someone and say "That was for you, because I love you." My husband was super against me farting for the first 6 or so years, my second pregnancy I just decided, fuck that! 😂🎉
Sarah is my favorite guest you have on your show! You two have such a great energy, and I just love getting a glimpse into your everyday life and love the relationship you two have. I would love it if you created a podcast that was just the two of you every episode. I feel like I could listen to you two talk forever, I just can’t get enough!
If the rat was bagged within the tupperware it probably was a non-issue contamination-wise, but roomie deffs should have informed the rest of the house lol. I have a pet snake, so always have either dead rats or mice in the freezer to feed him. We buy about 4 at a time, which lasts us 1.5-2 months
As a snake owner and a small pet owner who lives in Maine, I thought the caller was off it. I need to feed my snake... and sometimes I do lose a pet in winter. What else am I going to do? I can't dig the ground till spring once the snow hits.
Shane from Watcher has had a similar thing happen before, him and Ryan have talked about it in some videos. Basically if you live in a place where the ground freezes and you can't get a shovel in it you have to wait to bury a pet.
Just coming to say, I’m the roommate that saw her burying the rat lol, can confirm the story is as wild as it sounds. I think my biggest ick with it was that we didn’t know about it and this was a house of four girls one fridge, the freezer didn’t have space where something wasn’t touching something.
My daughter didn't sleep through the night until she was 2 and 2 months. We were exhausted. They will sleep!Hang in there. Protect each others rest. It's so hard but you guys are so amazing!❤
I live by the rule....it's only weird if you make it weird. Just own it as facts that you shit on the floor and don't let it become a big deal. If people ask, "hey, heard you shit on the floor?" Make intentional eye contact and say, "Sure did." Do not break eye contact until they do....sometimes, I also make things super weird bc people just will walk away when they don't know how to react.
just a thought about the ol ratsicle - i think the fact it was a pet rat, and not a wild rat of the unknown would make me not even consider that as weird. rats in captivity are said to be fairly intelligent and also pretty clean! and if she cares about the rats enough to keep them frozen during the frost months instead of just throwing it into a dumpster just so she could then bury them it's a fair bet they were well cared for and preserved well! at least thats what i'd be convincing myself. we keep frozen meat in there, right? just some mental gymnastics in mind over matter to get by! :P
Watching this as a mom of a 2 year old who can't take anything too seriously, I desperately wish I could hang out with yall with the kiddos. I still haven't found my crew of chill parents. But there's hope 🥹
My friends forgot about my birthday and I was crying in bed and then listened to this podcast and it made my day much better thank you ❤ (poop and dead rats improved my sad bday)
Omg Happy Birthday!! Sorry about your friends forgetting, I hope the day will turn around for ya - get yourself a birthday freebie like a coffee, sending you virtual birthday hugs!! 🎂🎈🎊🫂

Just a note that pet rats are not disgusting just generally speaking. Rats are actually very clean creatures and the idea that they are just gross by nature is really harmful to them
As a jungle Asian who eats and has seen a lot of things Americans and westerners would find utterly disgusting, I personally don’t think the rat in the freezer is as gross as the caller made it sound, especially if it was stored nicely. I literally have like a dozen dead squirrels in my freezer outside wrapped in grocery and ziplock bags bc my dad likes to hunt and eat them. They’re sitting there w the other frozen meat in my freezer as well and I’ve never gotten sick. The reason we freeze things in the first place is to stop/prevent the growth of bacteria that would cause spoilage (aka decay). A lot of standard refrigeration comes w freezers that can reach -20F, sometimes even lower. Freezing it at this temp should be enough to keep things fresh. Also, in defense of the roommate, it wasn’t a wild, New York street rat living off of human waste. It wasn’t a rat that the roommate caught, killed and kept for funsies either. It was her pet that she loved and took care of. I don’t think the roommate is weird or gross for that but, I do agree that they should have told everyone about it at least seeing how it’s a shared space they used to store their deceased pet. Rats are also super smart and do a lot to clean themselves, kinda like cats. They’re one of the most commonly used animals scientists use for their research and studies because of how intelligent they are and they also make great pets! Rats are misunderstood, stop this rat slander! 😭
Only 2 minutes in but I was the same as Sarah! My husband thought our daughter was super cute right away and it took me like 3 months before I actually thought so too 😂
Wanting to find other parents who have a sense of humor about being a parent, and don't take it so seriously is such a real thing to go through. I'm 29 with an almost 11 year old. Anytime I tell people the hot take of "being a parent is so hard" I get the wildest looks. So much of it is fun and exciting, and so much of it is so stressful that you have to find a way to laugh about it. I only have one friend with kids (small toddlers), and I want to say: don't worry about finding new people. If it happens, great, if not, that's okay too. You'll look back on your son growing up and realize the people you have, are the village you need. Even without having kids of their own my friends have been deeply ingrained in my kid being where and who they are today.
i honestly don’t think the rat roommate did anything wrong. if it was in its own container and wasn’t affecting anything then it shouldn’t really be a problem. especially if the roommate doesn’t have a close relationship with the other ones. but maybe that’s just me. i mean if i opened it and found it i’d be shocked but if i watched them bury it i’d just be sad for them
9 months later and I clicked on this because I had my dead pet rat in the freezer for a few months because it was winter and thought maybe this was about me (it wasn't and I also had it better sealed and my roommates knew)... only for me to also relate to the first caller because I too have pooped on the floor in front of exes (I have IBD so shit happens. Literally)
I love this show so much from the humor of u and the guests to the community to the quality of production and format, honestly it means so much to have such an consistently good thing to bring the day a little joy ❤❤ love y’all
I have had multiple dead animals in my freezer 🤷🏼 as long as the baggie is sealed it’s no big deal to me but I also don’t have roommates lol. *Also pet rats aren’t gross 😌
You two are an absolute delight! I think I needed that reminder- to not take everything so seriously. My husband and I will be first time parents in October and have had trouble finding the joy, mainly because everyone keeps reminding us of all the negatives. Such a great way to end the pod. Thank you so much!
For the rat thing, if they live in a cold climate and it died over winter when the ground was frozen that’s very coming thing to do to wait till spring or summer when the ground thaws for a proper burial. Deffinetly talk to her about it tho!!
I was such a sleeper before having my kids. And both of my babies were not into it for like the first year and a half of their lives. We thought if we treated our second differently, he would sleep better. It didn’t work. 😅
Love the pod, always makes me be a little weirdo laughing to myself whilst walking to work/on the train. Sarah is the best, truly. Keep it up. Also you say you read the comments - if so please use your incredible influence and power to get Guilty Pleasures to do Johnny English, it would make my life.
I'm also a new mom to a sweet bundle of sleep deprivation, so i get the drowsy mom state haha. Wish I knew a trick to pass on for babies to sleep through the night... Just remember you're not alone. 💖
UMMMM..... SO.. (lol jk its not that serious.) Just reaching out to let you know that reptile owners like myself often have frozen rodents in the freezer, usually just like... in some plastic bag. Sometimes in a box, if you're only buying in small quantities. But I have a whole collection, so I have like.... 20+ dead rodents in my deep freeze at all times. I'd rather thaw it out and feed a dead rat to my snake than keeping a bunch of rats alive in my house at all times. There's nothing wrong with a frozen rodent- it's not gonna getcha. Its the same as keeping a bird in your freezer, except the feathers are usually removed.
I had a fresh dead sparrow in our shared freezer for a couple days because I found it on my afternoon walk and I wanted to donate it to our local taxidermy center. honestly maybe I'm biased but I think if it's in an airtight sealed container and you ask your roommates beforehand (as i did) it's not gross
HAHAHA as a gay queer person who grew up w not great vibes in like elementary school, i too remember not wanting girls to talk about poop hehe, now im a feminist and i talk about poop on the regular ❤ poop openness! our bowels shouldnt suffer in silence!
The rat thing seems pretty normal. Lol. What happened is exactly what I assumed happened. Lol. The only thing roommate did wrong was not tell everyone. Lol
Sarah is always such a delight!! You both seem closer to out of the fog since your last pod together! And it totally does get more fun the more your child can interact with you and the world, it is exactly like having a little sidekick who goes everywhere with you.. and who occasionally still gets their bodily fluids all over you 😊
Sorry commenting so much haha but the fog is so real! I also didn’t think it was going to be as hard as it was so you’re not alone. I promise it gets so much better I honestly don’t really remember like the first 6 months … sadly
As an East Coast girl I completely agree with always needing to get the best deal!! It sealed the deal for me when Sarah mentioned Ocean State Job Lot it’s so true😂 love the pod 6:53
Miles' Hamilton references being completely wrong for the scenario but him being so excited about it made me giggle and shake my head at the same time. 🤣

@@unhealthyhomeostasis ah that's so cool you get to work w them!! i just love rats lol
And people keep dead chicken in the freezer and chicken isn’t very clean.
I love a Sarah Bonsignore episode!!!
Between this and Normal Gossip, Wednesdays have never been so tolerable NAY… THRILLING.
I just came to the comments to say I bet these two would LOVE Normal Gossip hahaha.
How could the pun “flower bro” not come up when talking about the brother being a flower boy?! Come on miles! 😂

I have never heard anyone freely advertise Ocean State Job Lot, and I am so happy to hear it. I love Ocean State Job Lot.
Love love love a Sarah episode!!!
I love me a good miles and Sarah episode
Yay Sarah’s back!
Sarah's back!!!
I fart and dedicate them to my children. I'll fart and then pick someone and say "That was for you, because I love you." My husband was super against me farting for the first 6 or so years, my second pregnancy I just decided, fuck that! 😂🎉
The Dollar Tree actually just raised their prices to $1.25 :(
alternate universe drew barrymore and justin long
Dollar Tree is not $1 👀
It originally went up to $1.25 and now it has $5-10 items as "deluxe items"

I would love it if you created a podcast that was just the two of you every episode. I feel like I could listen to you two talk forever, I just can’t get enough!
sameee like I love Will and Rainy as well, but Sarah + Miles is something I'd always be in the mood for, theyre hilarious and calming at the same time
I live for the daily light sensor dance 😂
Right?
18:45 43:55 😂😂
I was going to say this too. He can never replace it. The light sensor dance must remain forever!
Poop call is going in the Hall of Fame. Fucking incredible.
I absolutely lost it when she confessed it was the second time lmao
The mild indignation with which Sarah corrected you about her shitting herself 'not on the floor, in BED' 🚔
LMFAO YES 😂

Me, a vet tech: way more grossed out by people pooping on the floor than dead rats in the freezer 🙃
Same... as me, a normal pet owner (including owning a snake who eats frozen). 😅
My take is that freezers are full of carcasses so the rat is not that big of a deal.
This is kind of a great point
I have not stopped laughing since "lean cuisine" was said
Miles with Sarah for an episode? This should be awesome and fun! Also, hello to Bébé Bonsignore.
Miles’ wild flailing to try and reactivate the motion light is very funny
omg I love Miles' Parents. I love that he just called them. I'm obsessed. I want them on the pod.
Shane from Watcher has had a similar thing happen before, him and Ryan have talked about it in some videos. Basically if you live in a place where the ground freezes and you can't get a shovel in it you have to wait to bury a pet.

Have literally never clicked so fast. SARAHS BACK ON THE POD, folks get ready to get perfect!!!
I love watching on RUclips because we get to see the silent Miles dance to turn the lights on as Sarah giggles, all while the caller has no idea.
I think this was my favorite episode, the calls were absolutely golden
Everything about the ep was perfect as usual EXCEPT Sarah calling rats gross 😭 they're not!!

The "your mom fart growin up?" made me laugh harder than I ever had at a podcast. Love all the sarahxMiles eps
Pet rats are actually p clean, it's them giant city rats you need to watch out for.
The way that I run to RUclips when I see that Queen Sarah is on the pod today 👑🎉👏🏻
Finding cool parent friends that you vibe with is so hard! Love you both and hope you find your groove as parents!

I can see why it’s weird to some people, but I have frozen rats in my freezer to feed my pet snakes 😂
Haha this is a great point!
Listening to this as i return home from ocean state job lot 😅
Sorry commenting so much haha but the fog is so real!
I also didn’t think it was going to be as hard as it was so you’re not alone. I promise it gets so much better I honestly don’t really remember like the first 6 months … sadly
As an East Coast girl I completely agree with always needing to get the best deal!! It sealed the deal for me when Sarah mentioned Ocean State Job Lot it’s so true😂 love the pod 6:53
Watching now when dollar tree is $1.25 it’s terrible
Miles' Hamilton references being completely wrong for the scenario but him being so excited about it made me giggle and shake my head at the same time. 🤣
PLEASEEE
