    I must conceded something here. I've commented on a lot of RUclips golf videos that have the same problem, they are all good or great golfers telling us how this and that works and then demonstrating it themselves. The problem is that they were already great players before they ever hit the shot, so it's really not very helpful to see someone like that demonstrate anything. But this fellow is different and I give him all the credit in the world for it. There are videos on this channel of young ladies (and men) hitting the ball a long way using the techniques he has showed them. It's still frustrating as all hell that I can't do it, but at least it's not just another good golfer telling us what we should do! He has shown us how it can work for an average player and that has much more value as far as I'm concerned.

My mantra has always been contact, contact, contact so now I guess I'll going to do the same but add throw/snap the club back to the ball and see where that gets me. Thanks for all of this Shawn.

    . I feel this drill would allow a more prolonged awareness of the loading of certain muscles in the backswing. That awareness of feel would be a positive thing. I have noticed that slowing the backswing down results in more consistent solid shots for me. A slower backswing makes the transition into the downswing more synchronized or smoother. Hey a slow backswing worked for Heideki and many others right ? Excellent video.
    Thanks Shawn

    • @Alan_Edwards
      @Alan_Edwards 2 года назад

      I agree with slowing down the backswing. It does seem to help me lead with my hips a lot better and keep my hands out in front longer too. My problem is being consistent with that slow swing. It is so easy to fall back into my normal pace. I once heard a tip that the tempo of your swing should be similar to how fast you walk since it is more natural - and I have always walked pretty fast. Not sure what Shawn would say to that. Although if I am being honest, my walking pace has slowed down as I have gotten older.😉 Going to continue to work on this and see if I can get it ingrained into my subconscious so it is more natural.

      Unfortunately one of the biggest differences between my 18 hcp swing and my 3 hcp swing is how fast and early i use my big muscles at the start of my swing!,But between club// and left arm// im already slowing down to go the other way But consequently my arms are moving slower, sequencing is the Key! i did it wrong for years!

    Hi Shawn, thanks for the video!
    I’m a longtime fan.
    In your recent videos, it seems you squat while opening your chest; different from the closed squat in the oldie “downswing weight shift” or the slow drill in this video. You’re now planting your leading foot open.
    For the senior, it seems it’s either potential painful stress on the hip in the follow-through, or spin out of the leading foot; unless the foot is planted open in an open squat “while not thinking about the legs”. No “settling it” with the back to the target.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the comment and observation; we take pride in achieving pain and strain free golf swings; I was doing a bit of an exaggeration in the “downswing weightshift” video to get the point across. I just love getting the delivery of my swings deep into the target with the image of Joakim Niemann!

      @@golflessons Thanks for the reply Shawn. The jury is still out on whether or not the SPS fits my anatomy. I think this drill will help fill one gap I had with getting a good range of motion on my backswing. I worked a bit in my garage gym today where I have some mirrors and this drill really seemed to help. Getting a much better range of motion with much less effort. In fact all of your drills work just fine with the SPS. Feet together and PMD being the two I use the most. I'll have to check out Savy's channel. Never really noticed her swing plane before. Oh and I am in the market for some new irons and the Apex DCB is on the top of my list. Thanks again mate.

    Hi Shawn. Great explanation of the golfswing. If you look at the backswing of several pro’s, theirs is much deeper. Lead arm more inside. Also, do you haven strong grip? Because you have a noticable wrist kock in your backswing wicht promotes an open face at impact.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 года назад +1

      Haha, yes! A nice full hinge of the wrists at the top with a flying elbow will give the APPEARANCE that the face is open, however, when my kinetic chain kicks in, the trail elbow gets pulled down and forward towards the target and squares my hands and club dynamically. You want to look at the swing as a whole and not a series of individual body parts like the golf industry is making us dizzy with. Human Anatomy is perfectly designed with the necessary structure to perform the movements needed to deliver your golf ball to target. You should definitely check out our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com and see the “kinetic chain series” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” and then identify what is missing to this linkage and consult the videos necessary on the site. • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 года назад

      Flat swings like Matt Kuchar’s don’t have as much ability to use the ground to deliver the turbo charging power to the arm swing; Hogan had width but the longer swingers always have a wider and more upright swing; see the latest I did with Scottie Scheffler on my channel. As for why, I don’t have all day! 😝😝😝 but you can boil it down to better kinetic chain engagement big time!! Like tossing a horse shoe, you use legs, not arms for power; and the arms are not going around the body…

    Don't overcomplicate it folks, it's really as simple as Shawn is showing. Just increase your range of motion and move your mind from the ball to the target and see how well your natural athleticism emerges. The task is the key, range of motion helps increase speed and that = distance. As an older golfer with 3 back and 7 knee surgeries I am happy to report that I am hitting it farther and more solid using what Shawn is teaching than I have in many years without "jacked up" golf clubs. Still playing standard face lofts and am a good 10 yards longer per iron through the bag as are the metal woods. This is sound instruction, throw the darn club at the target and enjoy the results. • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 года назад +1

      @@mjs0039 what is your task? Throw the club? So practice with with a tee in the ground to gather a backswing with heel off the ground and then throw the club over the tee through the IP using the Blur of club into the picture. If you throw the club in the direction you want to start the ball or send the tee in that direction, then you will engage the kinetic chain NATURALLY.
      Gather the backswing like the “lead hand release in the backswing” video with heel off the ground and knee behind tee; (tee is in the centre of stance) and then throw the club using that built up momentum.
      When the brain has experienced that throw with the extra momentum a few times, then bring the ball back in, predict impact based on that throw, and STAY WITH THAT MOMENTUM THROW IN THAT DIRECTION INTO THE FLIGHT PLAN; WITNESS THE WHOLE THING TO THE FINISH.

    very interesting video, interesting swing mechanics. i've been watching only for a couple weeks, good to see a Cdn here. your backswing seems unique to me, maybe i'm wrong. your high point is actually not that high. i can relate to it as opposed to some monster wind ups. also, it's not very deep or behind you. you mentioned the club falling backwards as not great. there are all kinds of instructional videos teaching exactly that as the desired state! shallowing the club head, falling back and away before starting the down swing. your club is nearly over your head at the end. is it just your specific biomechanics or did you train yourself to do this in order to maximize the stroke? clearly you hit it far and straight with apparent ease.

      Hey James! Our fundamentals are for OPTIMIZING HUMAN MOVEMENT PATTERNS. What you will see in mainstream instruction is a myriad of band aid therapy to respond to PERCEIVED MISTAKES AND ERRORS that their students make. THE JOKE IS that there is mo such thing as a mistake in the golf swing as your body responds to what is going on in your mind. YOU WANT TO HIT THE BALL? Then over the top is necessary if doing that from a traditional address position. YOU WANT TO SEND THE BALL TO THE TARGET? Then over the top CANNOT EXIST and the swing will shallow out and flatten out in the downswing ALL BY ITSELF after the weight shift has applied itself to the engagement of the kinetic chain.

    What is very strange Shawn is I will be 72 in March...many sports injuries haunt me. I hope to play this year. I watch your RUclips more than your premium . Among other things they clarified Harvey Penick's discussion of the grass whip. Here is an observation for you. You like longer irons much more than short clubs. Short clubs were designed for distance. Bryson D looked at Bobby Jones' irons in a display and found they were all the same length. My wedges always felt way too short. Way back in the 90's I extended my wedges to 36 1/2 and added 3/8 incrementally. You have already started this exploration with your wedges. I encourage you to adjust some old blades in this manner and see if you think they better accommodate your swing. Loft and lie will then fine tune distance. I love your videos.

    It's funny, my brother has only been learning golf for a few years and he said something very poignant to me a few weeks ago. He said "all you have to do is feel the weight at the bottom of your swing" which doesn't seem like much, but I thought about it and realised what he was saying. He was saying that for instance, when you practice swing, with that long lazy motion, you feel the club pulling on your hands but when you try to muscle the ball and hold positions you tense up or throw away angles and there is no weight, as you're not throwing naturally.
    I went back to the range with that in mind, to simply feel the club pull on my arms with an easy slinging motion and viola!. I really never miss-hit a single ball in around 50 shots. Amazing that somebody who's more inexperienced can teach you something so important, so from here on I plan to keep my ears open a bit more and I feel like what he said ties in heavily with what you teach. Great vid, thanks Shawn 😉

      I have very limber wrists; when they hinge, they create the illusion of an open face; but you will see that it’s the right flying elbow that creates this illusion as well and when I transition at the top and start down (when focused on throwing the club in the direction I want to start the ball) you will notice the right elbow now leads the hands and the lead wrist changes angles and closes the face naturally. This is the way I have done it since junior golf and it is mine. I would have preferred to start like my daughter with the hammer style strong grip because I see how efficient and much deeper through the ball that is. But most golfers learn as adults,and all they care about is making contact with the ball,not whiffing,topping,fatting and the embarrassment that follows.Solution is easy But Never done! golf related hand eye co-ordination drills. People wonder why golf drives people insane. I am 51 and fit and I've been taking lessons all winter long and practicing 4 times a week at the indoor range and also at home in my garage and despite it all, the best I can do is drive the ball 220-230 max. My golf teacher tells me I can easily reach 250-260 and I see this man carrying 290 and the thought of quitting enters my mind through a side door. I can't work any harder, I can't be any stronger and yet here I am lol. I like to tell myself that some people just can't do it and I happen to be one of them, and that's what keeps me going :)

      It is not about strength; I am just going back to a workout regimen with the new EMS system from Katalyst; just finished my 3rd workout and had a terrific post workout meal! 💪👍😀
      It is about engaging the kinetic chain of the human machine which was meant to catapult objects. If you strain to hit hard or if you try and control the swing, YOU ARE GOING TO SABOTAGE IT ON AN EPIC SCALE! Start with my “throwing the club straight shawn clement” videos on youtube and then see “fencing for power shawn clement” and “how to put the ball in the way of your swing shawn clement” and see how you do! Time to ABANDON CONTROL AND JUST CHUCK THAT CLUB OUT THERE TOWARDS THE TARGET!

      @@golflessons I'll tell you what partner, I've tried everything else and it's gotten me nowhere. So I will go ahead and watch the first videos tonight and go to the range Sunday and I'll let you know how it goes! :) Thank you and good luck with the workouts :)

    How about if you never had the distance in the first place !!

      I would have it now! my specialty is getting students average 30 yards more distance when it is obvious their distance is not proportionate to their skill!
