this anime is definitely one of my all time favourites. it's so pure and lovely, and portrays being trans in such a dignified, authentic way. as someone who has struggled with gender identity for a while, this anime just understood me. the characters, soundtrack and animation are gorgeous. i love this scene!
I, myself, could really relate to Nitori quite often.
This anime is criminally under-watched,
Agreed
I just wanted to give Shuu a huge hug when she started crying. She is such a trooper throughout the anime but struggling with such a huge issue alone can be so overwhelming...
Shuu is a guy..
@@Murasame no. how did you manage to miss the entire point of the anime?
@@nitroOCE Wanting to be a girl does not make you one. He was born a boy and will always be one but I empathize with him.
@@Murasame then you've both completely ignored the entire point of the anime and you also don't understand anything about being transgender.
@@nitroOCE The person here who lacks understanding is you when you think that someones desire overrides basic biology.
A more mature look at transgender issues in Japan. Most stories dealing with LGBTQ in Japan I find to be fluff aimed at heterosexual, but the manga was very true to life..... I think I'll enjoy the animals.
*anime
triggered
I was thinking. Why did you enjoy the animals..?
showing this clip in my psych class to talk about gender dysphoria and anxiety. wish me luck please
Sam Smith good luck!
how was it??
@justachannel2599 hope they're OK 💔
Im crying again 2 years later
This show was gorgeous to watch (animation and subject matter), I only wish we got the whole thing on crunchyroll. Episodes 10 and 11 were edited into one episode for broadcast, and I would kill for more time with this show. I guess it's time to buy those big hardcover volumes of the original manga!
It's normal for some trans guys to have a girly phase. I did, and I know I'm trans. He's stated a few times that he wants a male body. He just isn't comfortable with doing things that draw attention to himself. And, as I said in the first sentence, him going through this girly phase is normal. It doesn't make him any less of a man.
I have so much respect for this anime. It's truly amazing and heartening. I really feel it for them.
This anime is very moving and i can relate to the girl more then any a person/charecter.
I really adore this series. I wish the anime could cover more of the Manga, but otherwise it is still really well done. I just hope that the Manga release here in the west can make a comeback. It's on hiatus at the moment due to poor sales unfortunately : < I hope one day we can get Volume 9 and the remainder of the series.
I just finished the first episode and cried at the end when he was crying. Aw,,,
That's the most realistic crying I've ever heard in anime
This anime is so beautiful.
I LOVE this anime please please please please PLEASE you should post the entire series! It's way better quality than what I watched it in.
Ahhh! I literally crying 'cause I read the Manga and I didn't know it was an anime, and I'm having feels from everything and I just can't...
*thoughts*
This was a surprising experience. between the unique art style and the theme of the characters.
the idea of wanting to be something you cannot is relatable .
thinking a way that the majority find weird and may mock you for.
is something many have went through.
it made me respect the main character as he questions the perception of society rather then just accept it.
the
supporting cast while not as deep were still mostly pleasant to see.
not feeling like tropes but people. who stand out in their own way. have
worries or just want to be themselves and not what others expect them
to be.
overall i definitely recommend this to fans of slice of life series.
*whats wrong with this*
E1
adult bumps into a student and does not apologize. rather the victim apologized...
girl
does not understand the difference between push and hit. and has he
audacity to even complain when in the first place when she was the
aggressor.
E7
Dating in middle school
what is the
purpose of attendance? i mean calling out a name and the student
answering? is the teacher blind? you can see who is and isn't
there...they have a seat assignment paper so it is just a waste of
time...
E9
how good are Japanese teachers? they actually
remember every single student in school? there is at least 300+ but they
question if Nitori is a new student.
*Note*
i dislike chiba
she is always complaining and miserable. without even a interesting
reason for being that way. for me she didn't add anything to the series
to make her worth being part of it.
I think the teacher ask if Nitori was a new student because she was wearing a different school uniform (if I remember right)
Literally my favorite scene in all of anime.
I've been reading the manga, and I adore it, but I didn't realize it was an anime! I am so excited to watch this now!
"Clair de lune"
I knew it sounded familiar, I just could not remember the name
I cant remember watching this, but my watchlist said otherwise.
Awesome series with a very interesting topic. It's thanks to this kind of anime that we can keep an open mind and make progress by respecting people's liberty and rights.
I can relate, im trans and thats sad. Though im not that open yet...fun, i still get the feels ;-;
Not crazy about how much the anime cranked up the drama, but holy crap this animation is gorgeous *-*
Because of the nursery rhyme that's in the first episode I will forever associate this with Jizabel's backstory in Count Cain.
I've read the manga and loved it, and after seeing this clip I know I need to see the anime too ^^!
@merder300
It's about a boy who wishes to become a girl and a girl that wishes to become a boy and the problems they face with the upcoming puberty. Its very moving and makes you cry but its amazing and you muct watch!
im not trans, not even gay, but this def gives me empathy for those who are.
this is amazing
i am not transgender but this still looks like a really interesting anime. I think unique people in general are interesting. However this is an actual legit story right? and not some mindless fetishy wet dream crap? I know alot of anime is known for that when it comes to these type of topics. That weird stuff can be a huge turn off :/ However if its a true serious story this looks really interesting.
+girlstorm09 it's one of the only times in anime where the concept of being transgender is touched upon in a non-comedy manner. It's very serious, though there are definitely moments of humor too. Give it a try.
+girlstorm09 Yes, this anime is serious on the subject and the characters have realistic issues, reactions, and development. They are young so they do have changes they must deal with as well, such as puberty changing the voice.
There is no fanservice even though there is a bit of relationship stuff(more for story-telling and development sake than for actual romance). Which I think is very realistic.
As a trans person: it's pretty much one of the most realistic portrayals of gender dysphoria I've ever seen in fiction.
I didn't know there was an anime of this!! Man, that's so great. I absolutely fell in love with the manga.
I definitely did this anime dirty when I was younger I thought it was weird that this boy wanted to dress as a girl so I stopped watching. Now I realize it doesn’t matter what people want to dress as or be who they want to be, hell my own brother came out as gay and I realized I still love him the same. People don’t stop being people just because they dress a girl or a boy or identify as this or that so I will watch this anime now but with a different mindset.
As a trans person this is almost painful to watch because it's very similar to my experience
I like how japan has an anime to do with the struggles of transgender people but not same-sex attracted people... is that not a little weird??
I'm just kidding! We need way more recognition for transgender people than same-sex attracted people anyway! lol
EDIT
Nevermind I should have watched more than the first episode before commenting
THIS ANIME IS PERFECT!!
There are four categories for anime/manga that deal with same-sex attraction. The first two are tame and they are called shounen-ai and shoujo-ai (ai means love and shounen/shoujo mean boys/girls respectively). The latter two are more risque and they're yaoi and yuri. I checked the page for Hourou Musuko on myanimelist and the first similar anime is Aoi Hana which is a shoujo-ai anime. And on that page there is also Sasameki Koto, Sakura Trick, and Maria-sama ga Miteru, three more shoujo ai anime. There's also Candy Boy, though the main characters aren't just female lovers, they are also sisters so if that isn't your cup of tea, consider yourself warned, and if that isn't a problem for you, it seems to be a pretty good anime. While I don't recognize any of the shounen-ai anime series, myanimelist has a couple pages of results under that genre; about the same as Shoujo-ai as far as I can tell. While there is no genre on MAL for yaoi and Yuri, I think they just combined them into shounen-ai/shoujo-ai.
You're right that there needs to be more anime that deal with transgender issues more seriously. and I mean that not as in they need to be dramas or all deep philosophical, they just need to be more respectful. Like Tamako Market had a transgender woman who was a flourist. Everybody treated her like anybody else, and the whole street is pretty close and inclusive.
+theEddieworld I got the, "This one might be super weird" kind of vibe when I read the description. I binge watched it in one night and I just want more!
If you haven't read the manga yet, you totally should! Also, I'm not saying this yaoi manga is completely accurate to the true struggles of same sex couples, but the yaoi manga Complex shows much more of the struggle of how it affects their lives in comparison to most other yaoi manga. The first chapter is a total turn off and can totally be skipped, but the manga as a whole is really good. I would also skip vol 2 ch 7, but I guess that's your choice...
Haha no anime about same-src attraction?? Are you sure??
@@AlbedoAtoned from what i know the japanese hardly ever use the phrase "shoujo-ai", they call lesbian romances just as "yuri", it might be because yuri means lily and is a symbol of purity, shoujo-ai is a term from the west from what i know.
I hope this anime gets an American release.
with english dub
Viewbob_True most English dubs suck though.. .=.
it hurts have mercy
the anime isn't quite as good as the manga. the story line is different, etc. i still like it, i just recommend the manga.
So beautiful.
this is on my backlog, man. but it gives me too many feels
i will never be the little girl ;_;
huh i don't remember it looking so good
Oh thank you XD Sorry for not looking there first. I've been trying to find the name for ages.
MANGA SPOILERS
Ngl i was kinda dissapointed with the way takatskis story ended up. Like i get the writer wabted to show how identity is fluid and sometines people change their minds but at points she was depressed. Idk. What do the rest of you think?
It's been a few years since I saw it but I remember feeling a bit disappointed by the end of the show in general.
*spoiler-ish*
I remember feeling, despite a lot of early promise of something original it degenerated into a bit of a standard harem romance. I should go back to it though, maybe I've just misremembered.
I had read a few of the manga but I had thought that nitori-kun had blonde hair
高槻くんの気持ちはわかる
結局高槻さんは大きくなって、ただの憧れで思い込みだったそして、男をあきらめた。なりたかった男を。
the books are just as amazing :'D
That and some males, trans or not, are naturally feminine and shouldn't feel like they have to change that if it's who they are.
This is such a beautiful Story but something is bothering me: how come the background in this sequence is so amazing and detailed, while the usual background is not? Did they ran out of budget?
The feels ;u;
It's a pity. In my opinion, the anime never acomplished to stand at the level of it's first episode. Regardless, It is a really lovely show, pretty recommendable.
I just watched this randomly, it looks interesting. Could someone please give me a synopsis?
Anyone know the name of th piece of music playing in the background? It's so emotional...
Sadly this anime relates to me..
Did I wanna see this soooo bad where can I watch it
It's in the video description...
so Beautiful! so much Sakura XXX Love it so much Best vide ever!
Please tell where can i watch this?
-w-
I know that o_o But its alot easier to say that, plus she does want to be a boy.Its easier for people to understand then transgender or bigenderd. If you get where i'm coming from ^_^"
Crunchyroll...
Where can you watch the whole series?
I think it's every otaku's dream to be a little girl. Of course, I base this on absoutley nothing
it's clair de lune by debussy
Good anime but bad manga in my opinion. The ending is actually better in the anime.
I won't spoil too much but the manga ends in a very sad way.
Caesar [SailorNeptune] Spoil me. How does it end?
The anime ends when Nitori has like a performance where he dresses up as a girl infront of everyone. The manga is a little bit confusing, Anna comes back to Nitori and he starts college with Doi and he writes a novel about his life. But it does not tell us if Nitori still wants to dress as a girl after puberty and in the last pages he still is dressed as a boy.
That was rather avant-garde. It was quite taboo too.
I'm really curious ...How does the anime end?
Nitori ends up going to school dressed like a girl (with a wig and seifuku). The teachers sent her to the school's nurse and called her parents. She also had a girlfriend, and the girlfriend later revealed that she had always viewed her as a boy, despite knowing about the crossdressing and her interest for feminine things.
Some people accepted her, and others didn't.
At the very end, someone told her: "your voice sounds weird now" (voice change) and she said "that's okay"
I love this anime, it gives you a much deeper understanding of what being transgender really is like.
can someone plz tell me what this is about?
