I kind of expected the Ruined King to be a Mordekaiser-esque Warlord, but yeah his lore? Makes perfect sense for him to look like how I thought I looked in high school when I hit the emo phase.
I would've been dissapointed if we got a old guy in full armor design. Making him young and lanky makes him much more interesting.
@@Ron-gh4dr My opinion is exactly the opposite. I hoped for an ancient mad king. With a beard and a ghoulish look. League doesn't have that many old characters. Instead it's this oversexualized emo edgelord. Seriously, he looks like a vampire. This could perfectly be a skin for Vladimir

@@rafaelsousa2633 I think the whole point of this character is that he's not the cool "undead warlord with massive beard and ghoulish face" but someone who is obsessive and vain enough to ruin the world to get what he wants. It makes sense for the Ruined King to look that way, unlike say Kai'sa or the that one Lunari guy whose name escapes me whose lore seems to be at odds with their design.
Basically The Ruined King looks sexy because it makes sense for him to create an avatar that looks that way (I strongly suspect that what we see is not the true body of the Ruined King but an avatar he created for himself).
My favourite part about this cinematic is actually Ahri's look. So far we've mostly seen the "beautiful seductress" or the "Charming mage" parts of her, but in this one she feels much more wild and... "Raw", which comes forth very much in her new hairstyle (no braid, and lots of tufts that stuck out every which way). I like this new look of hers.

Yeah 100% agree with you. This style of Ahri and the facial expression is so beautiful and something we don't usually see of her. She has a lot of skins I know, but I'd love to see a darker approach to her; more power in her stance, less of a sweet outfit and so on. More badass and 'dark'

@@XiphionS Not necessarily Dark, but I would like to see her be more Wild. We see a kind of similar wildness in Xayah. If she ever gets a visual update (and I kinda hope she does), I hope they'll put more emphasis on the fact that she's a Vastaya, and they're usually wild people.

Braum isn’t really a character I would’ve expected them to push this hard in their marketing, but as a Braum Main I sure as hell ain’t complaining

Based on the Ruined King's lore and the events that destroyed the Blessed Isles, this appearance perfectly matched that edgy personality, like Anakin.
Everybody expects him to look like some sort of the typical King that everybody looks up, or someone to be feared by many.

@@g4ldin091 i think a lot of the stories that are connected to it are in short stories on characters associated with him like hecarim (maybe kalista and thresh) and potentially a few others and i think the shadow and fortune may also talk about it some
I don't think Skyen had his "first words" as a baby, but instead a "first speech" analyzing why his parents were glad he was born.

The Ruined King's design is not what I'd expect but I like it a lot. Now I hope he has his charisma maxed out because that would be awesome.
Well, atleast on dnd the charisma usually also go along with how some one appear. But yea, personally don't really deliver the feel of most shadow isle champion / or even close to the might or badass look of other card from the shadow isle (leadros as example)

On one hand, young adult kings are very rare in medieval fantasy outside protagonists and that's refreshing. On the other, it's another default pretty boy.
Yea, I felt a little off about his design at first but it can make some sense so I tolerated it.

I really liked the spiked bots pyke has. Bc he obviusly has, he walks on squishy tentacles, and you know, he would slip If not for them
also i could see pyke being one of the few ppl that actually uses that as he was one of the best butchers
That Pyke scene was incredibly badass, I also like Ahri's eyebrows.
I wish that the actual animators and artists saw these TB Skyen analysis. I'm sure they would feel recognized and loved for their work! :))
Hope this comment doesnt seem weirdly out of nowhere, but I'm an animator at axis studios and I worked on some on the runeterra shorts and on KDA 'More'. You're right, I love tbskyen's videos!! we've shared them around the studio a few times and they're a big hit haha! Personally they always bring me a lot of joy! So much positivity and enthusiasm for animation!!! It would be great if there were more analysis channels of the same quality!

This is basically "the expendables" of runeterra
A theory that popped into my mind when you pointed out the hearts on the King's coat: is this game gonna be focused on character romances? The king himself is still obsessed with his dead wife, Illaoi's gonna be flirting with Braum for half their conversations, and Lucian and Senna will hopefully show up and be goals. Given their coming to Bilgewater together at the end of Kin of the Stained Blade I can see Riot building some kind of playful flirting between Ahri and Yasuo (maybe Ahri's being a bit coy with Yasuo but he can't tell if she's actually interested or if that's just how she is), which leaves... Pyke and Miss Fortune? Is Pyke tagging along because he's horny for the captain? Because that would be very hard to take seriously but definitely an interesting move for the man who's been possessed by deep sea fish gods to kill everyone in Bilgewater.

I think it’s a mixture of love and revenge. Miss fortune would still stick out as a little seperate, but she is a woman who is an object of desire and Is quite flirtatious, but is also vengeful. Illaoi might stay for Braum, but she and miss fortune have history that could provoke revenge potentially taken, since illoi is gangplanks lover and miss fortune overthrew him, leading to her having a conflict of wanting revenge and serving her god, since the bearded lady has deemed miss fortune ‘in motion’. As for pyke. Revenge is his only true motive. He is a half undead revanent who is killing people on his endless list because he thinks they are the ones who let him die. It’s a story about what people will do for love or revenge.
i actually kinda like the ruined kings design, didn't at first, but the thing that really sold me on it was the 2d banner art where you see him head on and he's crouching slightly with the sword planted in front of him. it might just be the posing, or the way the 2d art is stylized compared to the models in the cinematic, but once i saw that the doubts i had about the design were essentially gone.
and honestly still looks old enough to be a king with a wife and all that, i wouldn't say he looks like a young adult, he just has some punk style clothes and is skinny. and kalista being his niece just means he has a sibling who is older but didn't get the crown. the ruined king's story just happened before he really reached middle age. or if he did he's a person like Paul Rudd, who's in their 50s, but does not look like someone in their 50s.
also they probably didn't want the ruined king to be in big intimidating armor, cause then he's just mordekaiser 2. and if the ruined king is gonna be a champion in league, he NEEDS to be distinct from mordekaiser, otherwise the 2 ghostly kings of the dead are too similar. so looking at his visuals in the lens of him and mordekaiser being foils to each other then yeah it makes sense i think.
bit of a tangent but something i love is that the blade of the ruined king is a Greatsword! and not like, what fantasy games usually call a greatsword, i mean a REAL greatsword, one about as long as the wielder is tall but not some really wide and ridiculous anime sword. its even got the 2 grips design! well, ok, only one is wrapped and its the foreword grip in front of the main guard, and the area in front of that grip is more like a guard then just some parry hooks so maybe its not two grip and its just a very long sword with the worlds weirdest pommel, but still I like that sword a lot.

@@luizhenrique4967 well, a Zweihänder is essentially the German version of a greatsword, but yeah that name tends to be given to this specific style of two-handed sword, so you're right.
im just glad to see something closer to a type of historic greatsword compared to the usual big swords we see in league.
okay but the emo romantic poet is actually such a fun interpretation of the ruined king! i don't mind the design at all but i hope he find a cool set of armour before the final battle
A fun littletidbit is the final part of pyke introduction. Pyke is already cursed at the moment he fights it, so the beast is either slained or the match was a tie. But when the fish opens its jaw, pyke's shoulder guard maw are already closed as if he was the dangerous beast locked on its prey.
I really love all the effort they put to characterize pyke here. From the boots spikes, the glowing list, the jawbones "biting".
Another thing I found cool in the whole Foxfire spinning scene is how smoothly they transitioned Ahri going from 1 tail to 9 tails.

It's gonna be really funky to see how they explain why Pyke is here. As much as I love the fact he's here, and what a badass he looked like in his short part of the cinematic, I do wonder why he's fighting a toothed tentacle fish monster. Doesn't he work for the mysterious toothed tentacle fish monsters to kill people now? Seems a little strange.
Also the fact he's just walking down the street with the other characters is another weird quirk. Captain Fortune is the newly crowned head honcho of Bilgewater, Illaoi is the famed priestess of Nagakaborous. Braum, Ahri, and Yasuo we can presume are each well traveled types that wouldn't be out of place in a foreign city. But Pyke? Isn't Pyke the boogieman of Bilgewater? I always wondered if Pyke was an actual flesh and blood guy going around killing people or if he was a little closer to the Fiddlesticks or Bard ghost story/fairy tale type of creature. All the swimming and other water powers of his made me presume he wasn't an actual ordinary dude you could just find strolling down the street.
from what we heard in the legends of bildgewater series we can see that he's both a story that ppl tell each other and flesh and blood. but concidering that even Lars (the storyteller) who is one of the ppl who served with pyke barely recognised him thinking he was dead means ppl wouldn't really know what to look for when talking about pyke. that then tells us it's a tale that ppl tell newcomers or younglings while it still is a thing of reality ppl just would only know him by name not what he looked like and considering how different the ppl in bildgewater can be you can't really expect them to be surprised especially with the ammount of non human life in the city

At the end of Yones Cinematic Yas and Ahri went to bildgewater. Which means for the first time in probably forever we get two connected Cinematics / themes.
They all being friends until pyke checks his list and sees some FAMILIAR NAMES on it

Yeah, it's the new headshape and hairstyle. Like the other comment they tried to made her ugly on purpose and instead she looks like an egg. I didn't even recognize her at first. I think she needs a new hairstyle ASAP. MF looks so great tho. I'm a bit on the fence about Ahri. It's great that she looks more beastly but at the same time she's supposed to be kumiho? I don't think this makeover really works on her.

Theory: in this game they're gonna reveal that pyke is bound to nagakabouros and he will join you because nagakabouros tells him to. I feel like he was brought back to life by nagakabouros because of his strong will for revenge (similarly to gangplank if you think about it). I feel like we'll be getting a good bit of insight into what nagakabouros actually is in this game. Might also explain why his list is glowing now for some reason.
If its true, Nautillus will probably appear in this game, since his background will be really close to pyke BG.

It makes sense that Ahri & Yasuo are there since they went to Bilgewater together after Yasuo's cinematic with Yone.
Also probably was Yone who sent Yasuo, like he hunts demons, but undead rising a bit to south probably concerns him.
To me it still feels shoehorned. That bit at the end of Yone's cinematic was just to justify Riot's most popular champions here. Riot allways has to milk as much money possible
To be fair Ahri had in her lore for around 3 years that she was sorta heading to bilghewater to find a man that had eyebrows in shape of a butterfly since she got information that he had a piece of the necklace that she had her entire life
But their decision to go to Bilgewater is the part that doesn't make much sense to me. If Yasuo is travelling, Shurima makes more sense, since he needs to finish Taliyah's training

Now she's a badass and dangerous beauty that can seriously fuck you up if you cross her,and i love that angle for her

1. No, Illaoi actually respects Miss fortune because she follows the teachings of Nagacaburus (Keeping in movement, always evolving) even she is not part of the religion and put Gangplank out of his "stagnation".
2.Bilgewater is a huge commercial point in Runeterra, there is people from everywhere doing business and passing by. Last time was olaf who was there in there in the lore. Maybe braum was just passing by and Illaoi found him worth and invite him to the party. 5. Well, he doesn't look like a badass guy in cool plate armor (his sword is very cool, though) and kinda make sense and its something diferent, what I liked. He actually looks like a guy who would doom an entire island because his wife become a zombie.
About the additional lighting for the guy that gets knocked out with the mug: In 23:55 in this video we can see the likely light source for the lighting. It even lit the side of the mug facing these lamps before it knocked the guy out.

Every single one has clothes from bilgewater but almost every single one has some red clothes on him.Also the fact that the one guy who got facemugged has a tattoo with really noxian feel to it, those harsh,straight lines really remind me of noxian alphabet. On the one hand, I absolutely love this cinematic - especially how they use the lines of the background song "this is my kingdom, this is my domain" in such a cool way, once the ruined king appears - on the other hand, I can't unsee the animation error where Yasuo has his sword sheathed while it's already in his hand, as he clashes with that demon at 32:12 :(

Not sure if you realized this or not but I think that is the demon from Yone's trailer. That would explain why Yasuo is with Ahri since at the end of the trailer the two of them went off on a ship together.
