For a convertible laptop that is probably FINALLY a proper workstation for artists, THANK YOU for doing a review THAT IS MEANT FOR CONVERTIBLE DEVICES. All other reviews on RUclips are either normal Laptop reviews or gaming reviews to which I am going, "I don't care! It's obviously a device meant for art workstation why aren't you reviewing it for what it's made to be!" Your review may not be as comprehensive, BUT you did what those other bigger RUclips channels didn't do. Thanks again and you got a sub from me.
I’m a game dev who needs a powerful GPU to run Unreal&Blender, also draw stuff pretty often. To do both I use a workstation combine with an iPad Pro , I can easily see me replacing iPad with this, so I would draw on a bigger screen and do game dev on the go which iPadOS couldn’t pull off.
Thanks for your comment. I am learning game Dev, 3D art and digital art and I was wondering if any device would be a good "all-in-one". Your comment convinced me to save money for this. Thanks again
i bought this instead of the latest ipad pro 12" (2022) since i already had the 2020/2019 model and i love this laptop, i'm using it for everything now!
Great reviews. I've recently started to consider buying a tablet for gamming. And the Asus Flow line is at the top of my list. In this regard, can you lend any insight into how these perform playing games in tablet mode with a stylus? And I don't mean high end AAA titles. I would like nothing more than to throw one of these in tablet mode and play a top-down steam game on the couch. Titles like Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Teraria, Stardew valley, X4 Foundations, or Manor lords. Yet I can find little to no content showing or reviewing these products being used in that format. I have a high-end gamming PC for more hard core gamming. What I want is a mobile tablet with a descent screen and hardware for playing casual games away from my desk. I'm considering the Z13, but I'm leaning far more twoards the X13 or X16. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the excellent review. I've had convertibles with touch and pen input since the Windows 8 preview and there's not going back to a regular old laptop, let alone one without touch! But it's hard to find a gpu in a convertible, which I need for some graphic software use. I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that level of gpu performance and so am looking at the RTX 3060 model. I realize this is not a "hold it in your hand like an iPad" sort of computer but love the idea of using it in tent mode for touch-oriented and pen-oriented apps. I also have a stand that would support the tablet as an angle on my desk. So the convertibility is a big plus to me. I'm hoping that the fan noise is controllable when I'm using music-production software (which doesn't need the gpu). I've heard in other reviews that this computer has pretty good thermal/fan management options. How did the fan noise strike you? Thanks much! I'm glad you put so much emphasis on the convertibility and pen support. Those are a big deal for me.
I've got the X13 and it has fan control built in with three modes: Silent, Performance and Turbo so you can turn the fan down/off when you're doing something where you want them to be quiet I guess the X16 should be able to do the same then but no guarantee
Thanks for all the info! I did buy the x16 and love it, and, yes, the fan controls are excellent! I'm finding the Performance mode works most of the time and the fan noise in that mode is very unobtrusive. And, yes, it's super easy to switch to Silent or Performance when needed. It's a fantastic computer.
Bought one. Buyer beware though - make absolutely sure you know which type of screen you're buying - I wanted Mini-LED, but ended up with the standard version. In my defence though, I do think the store's web page was very deceptive. Will take it up with the store & ASUS.
Thanks for this review!!! On discord there was another person who had better results with the Asus Pen 2.0. I was wondering if you are using the Slim Pen 1 or the Slim Pen 2, because maybe with the right pen this could be even better!
Yes I was using Slim Pen 2, but I think the Asus pen seems like it should work even better as it is probably more closely tuned. I plan on getting one and trying it out.
finally a review with the tablet feature! One question tho, i saw other asus covertibles come with a pen AND pen holder, is it possible to buy a pen holder that can be attached to the laptop? very annoying that u cant store it or charge pen wirelessly...
The you should try the Concep D 9 Pro with a 17.3 Wacom digitizer, delta 1 4k display, 150 w RTX Quadro 5000 16gb video ram. It would blow your mind. I got one, expensive, but worth it. I just got the x16 mainly because is lighter
I gotta 4050 version with prime delivery, hope it gets here before my upcoming trip overseas! Otherwise I'm screwed, cause I'll have to carry around my old 4kg laptop with an additional drawing tablet :D Looking forward to feeling out that pennn-uh
Great vid. Thanks! Can you compare height of X13 vs X16 lying on the table, and take a picture or movie together with a tape measure or something alike? Are they tapered in some way? How big and many are the rubber feet?
16 inch is not ergonomic enough for a tablet, I don’t think there will be. It’s just not many use case justified and not enough gimmicks to attract customers.
Thank you for the great video! I usually draw on Fresco, on an IPad Pro. Could the experience be as smooth and the outcome as fine as it is on IPad Pro?
Hello. I just watched a few of your videos and I like them, specially that you talk about stuff others often omit. I have one question though: I use my 17" GE75 Raider 8sf on my lap 99% of the time for both gaming and work. I'm searching for replacement and X16 seems quite well suited for me. How are bottom plate temps during gaming (lets say Performance mode and perhaps manual with lowered power limits)? Is it suitable for actual lap gaming without roasting my nuts? Thanks in advance in case you make time to test that and reply.
Looking at the specs of your GE75 Raider 8SF which can reach 220W load, its pulling more power than the X16 would, which seems to kinda max out at 160-190W realistically; that and the fact it has 3 fans down there; my guess is that the X16 would feel cooler, especially since it has large areas to vent all the way across the back; That GE75 does have taller feet though... I couldn't say for sure since I don't have a GE75, but it would be less heat being produced in your lap.... I've used the X16 in my lap while running games and blender and it did get warm, but nothing that would have burned me at all.
@@cbutters Can i ask you something? So the X16 3070ti version should have mini led almost for sure right? Because I didn’t know 3060 version didn’t had that
what's the best pen for windows laptops like this? Would it be the surface pen? or something from wacom? Honestly curious. Wacom pen is much cheaper then microsofts, but I'm not sure about the quality as this is my first pen for windows. What would you recommend? Also you earned my sub!
Need help. Is the digitizer on it bad? Does it have the grid like structure where you can see small boxes that the entry level 2 in 1s have because that looks very ugly. Also, my usage is very limited. I am buying it just for the screen..i want it to be best..i will be watching movies, browsing and note taking..do let me know if it is made for me..will really appreciate your reply.
I’m looking for a TABLET. and a LAPTOP. Not APPLE. Thoughts? I’m being misdirected to various links that are not related to my search. I really enjoyed you presentation but I need a computer and a tablet that’s a bit bigger than an older iPad Air.
It it still worth buying the 3070ti with IPS panel? Because the MiniLED wont be coming to my country and the price goes insanely high if shipped out from another country, like $950+ higher.
It does change things slightly... It does seem that the Asus designed pen probably works best for these models from community discussion and information, but I'll have to get one in to test to be sure.
How would you compare this to the 2022 M16? How is the battery life on the x16? I just picked up a m16 and am wondering if I should return it for the flow x16.
The X16 Should have better battery life by a an hour or two when using it for idle tasks, due to the ryzen 6000 processor vs that 12th gen intel on the M16, but the M16 will outperform the X16 in gaming tasks... The X16 might be a bit quieter due to the 3 fan design. The M16 won't convert into a tablet like the X16, but costs around 2200 for the 3070 ti version.... So if you don't need the convertible / pen input aspect, get the M16... but if you really need the pen OR if you really want MINI LED; get the X16

I wish I would have taken the time to do that when I had it in house...
