The ironic thing is that we didn't think that much of Kandy the first time round, but we ended up going twice more after I was diagnosed with breast cancer there, and I really like the city now 🤗🇱🇰
Another great video guys! I fly to Sri Lanka tomorrow, when I go to the website it says my visa eta is approved but no email? I applied a week ago. I’m guessing this is fine as the visa is electronic to your passport right?

Hi Guys I attended middle school Trinity college in Kandy part of the Anglican church. The Principal and the chaplain were Englishman during my time .The chapel is a fine piece of architecture and the painting done by George Keyt, on top of a hill overlooking Kandy. Back in the day we had steam engines pulling the trains needing two to get over the Kadugannawe pass to get to Kandy from Colombo. When I got home my face was full of soot. Lovely video as always! Chandala was the lowest caste ( like ‘untouchables’ in India I think). Those triangles in the wall around the lake were used to put coconut oil lamps. The wall is supposed to represent waves. The lake was built by the last King. They say the small island was used by the king and there was a secret tunnel to go to it from the palace.
Caste system to that extreme does not exist in Sri Lanka now as it did in the feudal era, Although some Sections of the Jaffna Tamil community still practice it quite strongly

I don't know how you guys find your way around when travelling. I was in Lisbon recently. I was practically lost. I didnt know where I was, or where I was going, ,I was just walking around and unexpectedly coming across popular spots.
Ww do loads of research in advance, Mysty... from reading blog posts to watching RUclips videos or reading guidebooks on our Libby app. We also have the Maps me app, and download the places in advance, noting the things we really want to see. It's not easy at times, which is why we had a few days off in Kandy 🤗😊
My trick is to always do a bit of prior research as to what attracts me. Then I mark the places on my maps.me app so I know where to find them when I'm wandering around a new city. 😊. It's hard to get lost with modern technology. 🙏😊

Travelling without being able to cook some meals means that you're dependent on the local food. No wonder after eating rice 3 times daily you had enough 😵 The loop Colombo Kandy is closing so I guess there aren't many episodes left in Sri Lanka. We'll wait to see what's coming soon. Hello SERGIO 👋 It's so funny... we think of ourselves as budget backpackers, with the RUclips aspect being incidental to our life of travel 🤗 Yes, my stomach just said no more vegetable rice and curry... so I'm so pleased we found such delicious alternatives in Kandy. It's perceptive of you to note the Colombo-Kandy... and yes, we thought we'd be leaving 2 weeks later BUT then the whole cancer thing happened, and we ended up cancelling our flights to the Maldives, and spending an extra 2 weeks in beautiful Sri Lanka. Everything is going well for Lee and I, thank you 🙏🤗 We've thoroughly enjoyed the past 2 months housesitting in Portugal, and have been busy editing Sri Lanka and Philippines videos. Lee wants to catch up a bit more to real time, which is another reason why we're now posting 2 videos per week 😊🙌
We went to the botanical garden there, lovely. We also went into the temple and found it very interesting and the on-site museum was very good. We took the train from Kandy into the tea plantations, a welcome relief from all the chaos of the city.
That all sounds lovely, L and B. Well done for seeing the sights... we just couldn't gather the energy, so thoroughly enjoyed just wandering around the main streets of Kandy 🤗🇱🇰♥️

Hmm... as far as I can remember, we received an email for our ETA approval, which we had to show when checking in for our flight.
