Today we set out on an epic street food tour in Kandy to taste the best street food in Sri Lanka. Kandy is home to some popular Sri Lankan foods, and we kicked off our Sri Lankan food tour tasting some delicious traditional Sri Lankan curry. The Sri Lankan curry at Mandiya is cooked fresh each morning. With so much Sri Lankan curry to choose from, you’re bound to find a Sri Lankan curry that you love. Being the national dish of Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan curry is definitely a top Sri Lankan food in the country.
We continued our search of the top Sri Lankan foods and explored the local areas of Kandy, tasting local short eats, going through the Kandy Central Market, and tasting the rich and flavourful Ceylon tea.
Kandy is home to some of the top Sri Lankan foods, making it a must stop for the best foods to eat in Sri Lanka.
We finished off our street food tour in Kandy, Sri Lanka tasting the unique achcharu and an insane cheese kottu roti. Kottu roti is a popular Sri Lankan street food and something you must try, we couldn’t believe how cheesy this kottu roti was!

Cinnamon actually originated from Sri Lanka. It's the only place where you will find pure cinnamon.
Yes, the cinnamon tree is abundant here and the cinnamon is truly first class. We love how it is used in so much of the cooking, it adds such a wonderful flavour🤤 Thanks for watching and commenting!
The first ball like food which was coated with roasted rice flour that you tried is called " Aggala " . And it is made up with roasted steamed rice flour , shredded and may be roasted coconut (because it is needed to be kept for a long period of time without deteriorating ) , treacle or caramelized sugur syrup, pinch of salt and pepper to give a little punch to that ball. Normaly sri lankan people make them for new year festival as a sweet and also as a good supplement when the SL budhdhists climb the "Sri padha " or in other words " Adam's peak. The peppery heat will help to settle down the coldness the people will get when climbing the Sri padha.

Cinnamon is originated from Sri Lanka and safer to use than cassia. Cassia contained toxic called coumarin and it can be harmful to liver in long run.
Ambul mean sour in Sinhalese. That specific curry is from sothern part of Sri Lanka and special ingredient is Garcinia(Goraka).

The ball with floury and sweet you had as the first thing is call "Aggala" is made with roasted white raw rice flour, black pepper, shredded coconut and sugar , the the thing in doughnut shape is called "Vadai" is made with black urad dhal flour.

I really love the architecture of the places you went to, historical charm is just oozing. It makes me think that the vibes would just take the dining experience a notch higher. The train ride looks epic too. 🧡✨️
As for the food, I didn't expect they would serving something with pork in that part of the globe. It was a nice personal discovery for me. Annnddd... now I know that there's also a wood apple, I previously only knew about velvet apple and star apple. Makes me wonder what other (x) apples might still be out there. 😊
I also like the place setup for local women to sell native delicacies. I agree with Steph that it looks like a great place to sample a bit of several stuff.
Your brownie-chocolate drink and mango mojito also looks bomb. And still on beverage, I guess I'm more like Chris when it come to tea, it's "just tea" meaning I prefer it without milk or sugar. And that might also mean that I still have a limited vocabulary to describe my tea experience. 😅

We haven't heard of either of those apples, so that's news to us! We definitely want to try them both 😋
The local short eats sold by the women was a really cool experience, and a great place to try traditional dishes at a really great price, while also supporting a good cause. As for tea, something you must must must have in Sri Lanka, whether you're a tea drinker or not, this tea is some of the best! Worth a try for sure 😉

We feel the real taste of rice and curry when we are mixed well by hand not spoons. If you get used to eat it by hand and mixing propely, you will be able to eat it very deliciously. Thank you very much for your sri lankan food reviews and well done for both of you

Wood Apple drink is made from a ripen fruit which has the exact same texture of brown tamarind. It's almost like a tamarind juice but more sweet and less sour taste. The best was to make it is adding coconut milk into it. But the street-food vendors don't add coconut milk.

27:08 that fruit is called Indian Gooseberry (we call it Nelli in Sri Lanka), what makes this fruit special is it contains five of the six flavours sweet, sour, bitter, pungent and astringent. It has lot of medicinal properties. Not my favourite though 😊
