He got this idea from his own personal relationship with his ex girlfriend Susannah, Wendy’s twin sister. They broke up and that’s how this song came to life.
A friend said she went to Prince concert in Minneapolis in the late 70s. She said it was full on high energy and like you was in a trance. She said Prince commanded the stage an audiences. She said watching Prince performance was something you never forget and didn't want to forget. She said he was gorgeous in person to be a man.
He really loved playing on words.People really misinterpreted the context of the song where the word “girlfriend”ment a friend that happen to be a girl and the song was about the jealousy he felt when his girlfriend at the time would always confide in her female friends and her twin sister which use to make him feel insecure about their relationship .He did the the same with the song “I wanna be your lover,I wanna be your mother and sister too” which really ment I wanna be your protector and your friend too
@@SweetzHangoutWELCOMETOTHEFAM I have been a Prince fan since I was 11,back in 81 and I remember how people use to be confused about his persona, the makeup and heels and most people, especially guys were homophobic and somewhat afraid to overtly admit they liked his music so Prince used to play on that fact in his lyrics such as Controversy where he says “Am I black or white,am I straight or gay?” Or in I would die for you,he sing “I’m not a woman,I’m not a man,I am something that you’ll never understand” and once more, people understood what they wanted to understand but the song was merely referring to God.To answer your question how did I found out,I am naturally curious and also, being french(black French)back in 81,I didn’t understand English but I loved his music so much and I couldn’t understand why people couldn’t go past his physical appearance so as I got bit older,I did some research on him and I dissected his lyrics which were pretty straight foward as I realise people focused so much on his appearance that they never actually took the time to listen to the lyrics so that it would make perfect sense. But to be fair,Prince Knew exactly what he was doing with the gender bending persona. He addressed the perpetual “Are you gay?” question straight on in the song “Uptown” where a girl approches him in a club and ask him if he’s gay because of his makeup and heels and he Reponds “No,are you?Where I come from, don’t let society, tell us how we’re,suppose to be!Our clothes, our hair we don’t care,it’s all about being there Everybody come to Uptown....” Anyway, sorry about the long response but Prince was such an interesting person that I wanted to elaborate more than a bit😉
Don't apologize I love it keep the info coming i appreciate you watching fr homophobia, racism, and all the other dumb stuff is what I can't get down with at all I love everybody no bs ..... this is probably dumb but have you been to Paris and whats it like?
@@SweetzHangoutWELCOMETOTHEFAM It’s not a dumb question at all since I could have been from anywhere in France just like you could be,let’s say from Minneapolis and never been to New York or something like that so not silly at all.I happen to be from the Parisian suburbs so I am Parisian through and through but I moved to London when I was 18.There is also a lot of black people in France that originate from either the Caribbean or Africa. My parents for instance, happen to be from a small Caribbean island that is still a French colony😞🤦🏾♀️ and they moved to Paris in the 60’s where my siblings and I were born. But to go back to what you said about homophobia and racism, very sad that such things still exist and was not joking when I said that some people, especially in the black community were afraid to overtly acknowledge there admiration for Prince because of there homophobia. There is a video of Eminem from early in his career talking about his Prince love and influence and in the interview,he is surrounded by his band D12 and as soon as he says that, they start laughing at him like little girl and he gives them a real roasting😅Tupac amongst a few was not afraid to admit his admiration for Prince. For years, the black community would be more comfortable to say they loved Morris Day and the Time, not realising that Morris day and The Time were actually a one man band that happened to be called Jamie Starr aka Prince as he wanted to be known for diverse kind of music and not solely for funk stuff so he created The Time in order to stay in touch with his black side but he didn’t want people to know it was him but in fact,he played all instruments and write everything and there is lots of demo to attest to this.Morris added his vocals later and the band was use for live purposes and they were really great at that but Prince was the brain behind that band. There is also plenty of demo on RUclips such us The Glamorous Life that he later gave to Sheila E.The man was just phenomenal beyond word.Have you watch Charlie Murphy ‘s true Hollywood story about Prince? This is just hilarious and if you haven’t watched ,I really encourage you to watch it and Prince and a few others confirmed that it was a true story

It always catches me off guard, the fact that he’s gone. It was one of my greatest joys, seeing him live. I saw him 8 different times, and each time I turned into a complete fan girl and damn near passed out! My big regret is that I didn’t go see him on his last tour. I honest to god just figured he’d live forever 💜
How did you never get to see him live??? I'm from Detroit, which he said several times he considered to be his second home, and there was NEVER anything more important than seeing a Prince show! I saw the Piano and a Microphone show in Detroit on April 9, 2016. He was gone on the 21st. I'll always cherish that. See any bootleg shows you can! And watch Sign O The Times, which is where this clip comes from. It's a party for real!
Prince was dating Susannah Melvoin at the time, the twin sister of Revolution guitarist Wendy Melvoin. He wrote this song about how he wished he had the closeness with Susannah that she had with her twin sister Wendy.
Until Vanity hit the scene. Them two both loved the Lord, they had a spiritual connection; big difference , Soul mates for real! People close to Prince said Prince wasn't the same when Vanity died. Maybe he thought of how he may have hurt her . Things he could've done differently concerning her. Instead he grew bigger and git caught up into the world, woman after woman. Vanity had been clean since her mid 30's ; became a beautiful Minister serving the Lord till her death.
It's just nice not 2 While My Guitar Gentley Weeps then read all these comments about ELO and Dhani Harrison when everyone knows Prince's guitar solo is the only reason anyone cares but they act like Purple Rain was his only album then he disappeared
Love your reactions, been a Prince fan from way back! Check out Prince live at Webster Hall, it's acoustic and he's quite funny when he wanted to be. So talented!! And missed 💜
Sign o the time was a great concert film. The tour was going to be an international tour, while on stage, outdoor arena, lightning struck, hit the keyboard, so he fiomed the rest at paisley park studios, along w some tour footage.
