Prince was IT. He was more talented than almost anyone. Prolific songwriter for himself and others. He has produced songs on his own, writing lyrics and music, playing every instrument and singing every part. Not to mention the stage presence! He had an edge and was way ahead of his time. My Purple Rain generation collectively mourned when he died.

When he passed, it hurt like I knew him...he helped me through those awkward teen years, showing being different, shy, was ok...my wife and childhood friends all reached out to console me about it...I remember thinking at the time why would they do that? Until I tried to listen to Purple Rain...I cried...it took almost 3 years before I could listen to the song to the end without crying. Its still hard to comprehend he's gone...

I believe our music on 80s and 90s is what brought everybody together..there was just so much diversity. And that was the era of originality, there was no comparison of Michael Jackson and Prince...they were so great I'm their own way and their concerts were AMAZING !

I love this man and his music so much. When he passed my phone started going off like crazy. My family and friends knew I was not going to take it well at all. My mama, daughter, niece, sister, and numerous friends calling, and texting for several days. I definitely hate to see the day Boy George passes.

I remember seriously not liking Michael Jackson when I was a kid back in the 70’s. This little pasty white desert girl fell for Prince way before he really became famous. Everyone else was all about MJ and here I was rocking out to a man who would become one of the most favorite artists of my life. I saw him live so many times I can’t begin to count. I did absolutely crazy things to get tickets to a show or sneak into an after party. I barely shed a tear when MJ died, but Prince took me down to my knees. I think his death affected all of us who loved him so much in a way we never anticipated being so devastating to our soul. It felt like losing your best friend, lover and icon all at one time. I still haven’t recovered and I’m not sure I ever will.

He was everyone’s favorite back then around 1984 or 1985...... I sure miss those days..... Wish we could go back..... And then songs man..... What ever we were doing at the time of his music will always be memorable.... Of course just about everyone misses their youth and The Purple Rain movie and Album was apart of mine....💕💕

I'm a huge Prince fan and I have to say I was fortunate enough to see Prince twice in my life live The first time was winning tickets on the radio when I was 13 when I got to see purple rain tour in Chicago and the second time I won tickets again and I got to see him in Chicago at the United center and that was in my twenties and it was the same night that Mike Tyson was fighting Evander Holyfied... Of course I want to see Prince then we recorded the fight and watch that later it was so well worth it to see Prince live...

I saw this tour when i was 15 in Indianapolis April Fools Day 1985. It changed my life. I saw him 16 times after this tour. I’m 52 now. He’s the one artist who has been a common thread almost my entire life. The last time i saw Prince was in Oakland on 2/28/16. Just him and a piano. The perfect send off a month and a half prior to his passing. This particular video was filmed in January of 85 and MTV played it every hour on the hour that winter. God the 80’s were so special. Thank you for taking me there. 💜

I was 9 when this came out and loved it! I was already a massive Prince fan. But this song and Purple Rain just reaffirmed for me that he was one of the coolest people on the planet. Before this, my sister gave me the album 1999, along with Vanity 6, in '83 and I was enthralled with it. I already had Thriller (wore out the tape 3 times by the age of 8). But Prince, he changed the whole game for me.

Prince is the once in a lifetime embodiment of someone with so much talent, confidence, and swag about them that they couldn't care less what other people think about their look or fit while every one of those people, guys and girls, would be entranced by him. Especially the women because come on, Prince was pulling the baddest girls on the planet left and right, and that's because Prince is Prince. Even his bands would be made up of women who looked like genuine supermodels who happened to be extraordinarily talented dancers, musicians, and performers. RIP to a legend, man, I grew up with Prince and this is one of my favorite songs of his since I was a kid.

I saw Prince during the Purple Rain tour. It was FANTASTIC!!! The concert is available on disc. Prince v Michael... while their fans were ready to fight over the question, they actually had sincere respect for each other. I will say that MJ couldn't let go of the success of Thriller. It's like for him, time stopped and he never changed his clothing style with the times. Can you imagine Prince still wearing that Edwardian outfit with lacey draws in his later.years? No. He wore his hair shorter and hit the stage in (Prince inspired) suits.
Both were amazing talents that are missed to this day. It would've been great if Prince, Michael, and Rick James could've put the hype to the side and collaborated just once.
fun fact: Sheila E used to be Lionel Richie's percussionist and is Nicole's Aunt.
Half & Jai, let me know if you'd be interested in reacting to a TV show.
    e-hugs to everybody!!!!

I think prince got away with how he dressed also due to the time period he started in - if you saw how funk and R&B artists dressed (and even early rap artists), how prince dressed wasn't so out there that most would get ridiculed for dressing that way. Also the 80s encouraged individuality from artists

Not sure where I was when I FIRST heard this but I WAS at this concert (this tour anyway) in November '84! We saw him in Detroit where he was sold out for 7 (Yes - 7) nights in a row. That NEVER happens anymore. I was 14 and had very cool parents and I was raised on everything from Led Zeppelin to Santana to R & B and classic Motown. My Dad had been in a band in the 60s and taught me to appreciate great music in ANY genre.
Funny story about Sheila E - my Dad had such a crush on her and a man next to us at the concert had binoculars and I think the guy could tell my Dad was drooling 😄 so he started sharing the binoculars with my Dad while Sheila was doing her thing. Also, my Dad snuck his camera in and we have actual pictures of the concert.
The whole night is just an amazing memory ☔❤️☔

1982. Record Outlet in Royal Oak Michigan. Stopped in after school to buy an AC/DC record ended up leaving with the 1999 album after hearing the title track being played in the store.

Sheila E is a percussionist. Everything percussion. She was more famous for Timbals & conga; but there is a Master Class(those advertised in youtube), were she teaches drums.

I know that performance was in Syracuse NY, because that is a clip from the live video that was released on VHS, me and my brother watched that video a hundred times and it never got old. I went to that tour here in Memphis back in ‘85 , Prince had 3 sold out shows …
