Man, I remember when this album came out 1986(?) … and this song was the absolute stand out on the whole album. So innovative and ahead of his time! I was thinking about how good Prince was while studying this song, no one will ever come close to Prince. He was just so innovative and creative without trying. I’m sure he just wrote these songs with no real agenda in mind but to play what he felt and it came out like nothing we’ve ever heard. I hate he’s gonna but he did us a solid by leaving us pure gold. i was so ready to dislike this vid but after hearing the whole thing as i admit you singing the thing along well helped too, this really just reveals how soulful and melancholic the song is. another channel interpreted this song (within context of album and the chronological order in story progression) as a song of obsession and neediness opposed to the popular mainstream opinion of a cute love song. since prince always played with a band, this song always just sound funky and not so obviously dark and yearning. almost a shame that prince never did this song fully in keyboard/piano but at least you're showing us his genius in composing by doing this tutorial!
