Ah man this is TOO good. Stoked you're back to gigs there too and hard to think of a more iconic pair of singers to be backing up. That tone at 3:26 is what life is all about.
So glad to hear gigs are back on,where you are. It's winter here in NY..and we are still on hold. btw: yes, your sounds are great!!!! But I am not fooled...so much of it is in your chops. Still, I want the gear so I see how much skill I lack!!!
Dear Brett, very very very nice, huge and great sounds. But not only : you have a fantastic guitar feeling. I love your musical playing. Bravo ! Phil from Dunkirk
Great show in Mallacoota Brett, really enjoyed your playing. Thanks heaps for coming all the way to remote East gippsland. Lucky you had some chorus programed!
Magic tones Brett. I don't know how you remember where you have everything programmed. I'd get way lost! If you ever do some gigs in Central West NSW I'll have to come and listen to you live. Cheers mate, love those tones!
Brett...it would very cool if you did a series on dialing in the big 80's delay sound on various popular delay pedals (Nux Atlantic, Flashback, etc...)
I'll ask my wife (instagram.com/elisabethgardengirl/) to film across the stage. Also, I believe saturday's show is going to be televised nationally so there may be a feed I can link to later on which I will do, here.
I like the FM3, but it seemed to me it liked the guitar volume on full, and I like to play neck half down for a nice clean sound, I’m sure someone out there has nice setting of it. But I struggled to get my sound out of it
Questions: When you get your sounds,, what’s the best way to tweak your sounds? headphones? do you need high quality studio monitors? how do you know what you tweak in your home studio or headphones will work in a PA? thank you.
@@cmfraser84 Sick unit bro! get it! also it’s cheaper lol you can connect any Midi switch controller for $100 or $180 Disaster Area or Morning star! if you want more switches!
Hey there Brett! Long time subscriber here! How do you get that sound captured from the FM3? Is this direct recording? Are you going through a FRFR speaker, monitors or something else?
FM3 S/PDIF straight to the soundcard (PreSonus Quantum). I monitor through 2 x Atomic CLR's but you're hearing the S/PDIF send which is basically the same thing.
Hi Brett, as always did enjoy this clip a lot (previously got inspired to get a Magnatone Twilight and an Eastman SB59 (still on its way) ). If you do not mind, here is a question about the sound we are hearing and where it is coming from. How do you monitor what you play? I guess you go from your Fractal via interface into you DAW and then into your recording software. So is it what you hear and what we hear basically coming from your monitor speakers connected to your DAW? Hope you have fantastic gigs, we are far away from that here in Europe.
Hi Tom. Thanks for the comment/question and for your kind words. In this case I monitored and voiced the FM3 sounds through 2 x Atomic CLR monitors running at about 92dB. They give me a very good idea of what I can expect on stage. Desktop monitors are good but they don't have the sound pressure or thud. As I run dual monitors on stage in front of me (usually NEXO as they are supplied with large touring backlines), the CLR's are good indicators. The FM3 has S/PDIF out which I run to a PreSonus Quantum. The Quantum feeds Logic Pro X. I use the native Limiter in Logic to keep levels in check, and that's what you hear (after RUclips's own compression algorithm). Cheers.
@@BrettKingman hi Brett, very good work you did with this preset. It sound glorious even with youtube compression. I downloaded and tested your preset with my fm3 but even with teo different guitars (american fender standard stock pickup and les paul with Lindy Fralin Pure Paf i'm not able to get the sound i hear from your youtube video. This happening with all the scenes of the preset. It lacks if thud and bass a lot. I don't understand what could be?
@@marcobacchi4346 Hi Marco. Firstly, thanks for watching and for your kind words. Your question is a good one so I went to dig up the Logic session it was recorded in. Alas, I had trashed it in order to free up hard drive space. That happens after 2.5K videos. So I downloaded the preset and sat with it and the same guitar and played along to the audio in RUclips. Definitely there's some compression and limiting there. I usually apply the Logic Limiter to the master output just to keep levels in check. I like headroom so it wouldn't have been squeezing much. I doubt I would have applied a compressor also, but I can't be sure because the session is gone. It may have had a multiband comp over the master as well, perhaps resulting in the elusive thud and bass you mention. The only other things I can think of are that I do thump the strings pretty hard with a direct-down pick attack - but even then I couldn't recreate the same thud with my own preset, so there's some compression, I guess. Mine or RUclips's. I'm sorry I can't be more help this time.
@@BrettKingman thank you Brett. The problem is that the difference are not tiny, they are night and day and the fact is that in the video it sound a lot better than in my test (and now in your test too). The sound is full and rich and from who listen the video it seems you recorded not directly to logic from fm3 but from a mic in front of the live monitor to capture the anp in the room feel. Teresa are so many differences that's it seems impossibile to think it come from a simile complession in fronte of the daw.
Brett do you think that a multiband compressor/limiter put at the end of the fm3 grid could help to get the right thump in front of the daw and specially on the wedge monitors?
I still haven’t purchased my FM3 due to lack of funds. My plan was to use some of my favorite pedals along with the FM3. The Neo Ventilator II is among them, but I’m wondering if the FM3 can sound as good by itself. What do you think? Are there any pedals that are so good that you would use them along with an FM3 purely because of the sound or feel?
The only pedals I can't really replicate are the MK1 Tone Bender (and a few other germanium-powered fuzzes) and original Klon (the Nordvang Wingman is just as good or better). But there are some fairly close examples hiding inside the firmware, close enough to park right up next to them and not have to bring the originals to a gig. The audience would be hard pressed to tell the difference, I think.
Not any more, no. We do fairly large tours now and Fractal gear is just easier, much more versatile, portable and more reliable. I couldn't tell you how often I had shoddy valve-driven backline in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Over it. I love amps and have many, but for industrial stuff and touring, it's Fractal Audio for me.
@@lukeandmelreynolds479 The old-school in me prefers stereo floor monitors in front of my mic on stage. They're usually Nexo, very loud, and sometimes supplemented with a little side-fill. If the stage is really huge and I'm traversing across it occasionally with a guitar wireless attached, a satellite wedge on the other side is 'riden' by our monitor guy. In-ears are something I haven't tackled yet but may do this year. I wouldn't know where to start looking for the right ones though. Any companies that produce them are welcome to give me a yell.
Is this the sound just being recorded direct? I’m looking into getting 1 of these for recording videos just wondering if you get these tones just running direct listening through monitors or what?
Brett you are a treasure trove of incredible tones on the Fractal equipment.

Thank you so much for the tones! I recently purchased an FM3 and I am loving it!
