Great video Leon. After owning an AX8 for a couple of years, I've had my FM3 now for a few weeks and thought I was starting to get my head around it - then I watch your video and see I've only scratched the surface with what this beast is capable of. Please keep these tutorials coming.
Control switches are the best, they add so much power!
I love your modulated delays used for distortion, they sound incredible and that part you play in Rewind gets me every time. The EQ is very useful, more of a finishing tool as you mentioned. The amp settings are where you make your sound, determine your distortion grit. Something about a couple dents at 3800-5k helps in tone sculpting, but some amps have that range dialed in better than others. There's a lot of character happening right there. I like my 240Hz, and have a large bell that covers most of that range to bring it up a few db for guitars in the background, but guitars in foreground don't need it. I'll even move up to 10k roll off and remove the tone shaping dents, if that's going to help add energy. I like that range, but it's has taken me a while to discover and learn. You always sound good to me, and I like your approach to the entire tone shaping adventure.

You're the master at eq sir. I bet the FOH guys love you. Man, back in the day it could be a fight with them because of course bleed from mic's etc, because we had a 120 watt tube amp 🤣😂 which would sterilize animals at distant zip codes so you could get that feel you wanted for sustain and feedback, etc. Then pedals came along and racks, etc, but today it's soooo much better! Every big and small show I see for the most part sounds so much better.

Leon finally got my hands on an FM3 this week had to try one after watching for videos .Any chance you could please do a tutorial on foot switches per pre set for the 3 built in and an external switch as opposed to global ..Keep up the the great work

That's a cool little trick with the control switches. Didn't know that one. I would have wasted another amp channel to do that.

Awesome video as always. Could you perhaps do a deeper dive on how you'd use drive blocks instead of the built-in input boost on high gain amps? You mentioned impact to EQ, just curious how you'd go about deciding which to use.

Hi, thank you for all the great videos. Very well done and informative. I only JUST received the FM3, yay! I now have the FX8 and the FM3. Any idea how I would be able to use these two units together? I was thinking of splitting the work between the two units (since I have them) and using the extra switches on the FX8 as the master to slave the FM3 for preset and/or scene changes through midi. Since CPU is so important, thought I would maximize and capitalize on the extra COU now available. How would you run such a setup? Even in terms of how to wire them up together, how would you do that? Any info before I try and blow them both up would be great. Thanks brother!

Great video as usual brother! I am new to all this new technology and find myself extremely confused when it comes to sculpting a sound, especially when it comes to eq-ing and low and mid boosts and cuts. Almost every step of the way there is some sort of bass and high cut and boost. Do you always boost and cut at the same frequencies? Do you HAVE to boost and cut on every opportunity?, or is once enough? O M G ! Can you make a video for the ultra stupid on this topic please?? 😭 Thanks buddy! You truly rock!

That's awesome! You're in for a fun ride.
In general with extended range guitars I'd pull out a little more low end with the preamp low cut and tweak the multiband range.

Hi what about gàte block setting between amp and cab? I was struggle with unwanted feedback in lead scene when in loud live situation onstage.
Overdrive on 10? Thats insane haha! I keep it on 5 or 6 and it’s enough for brutal chugging.
Just got an axe fx2 xl and the fractal controller.... Jesus christ, I can't believe the lead tones ect, infact all the tones, wasn't impressed with the stock presets, but when I started tweaking it's unbelievable. Have you Made a video on setting up the controller? I'm yet to figure this out. Cheers.
Quick question how good is the drop tuning function in Fractal gear compared to say a stand alone Digitech drop pedal? I don't recall you demoing that function in your videos & you have a quiver of guitars in different tunings I would think so you would not use it. Just a thought. Cheers

Hey Leon! To give you one more switch, would it be possible to have Switch 1 toggle between your clean and dirty, with the hold function giving you your lead boost?

Hi Leon, thanks for all your work and tutorials. A lot of people talking about noise and hum on high gain. Every review goes with no noise at all. Are you guys apply noise reduction on input or in the chain? How do you manage it? Thanks again.

Hi Leon, perhaps a silly question but can you plug the FM3 directly in a guitar amp? If so, how do you do?
- 4 cables way into amp
- 4 ways with amp and FM3 as slave amp or FM3 for additional effects (cabin, reverbnd so.)
- direct input (only as effects)
- slave (into amp FX loop return)
- some combinations with stereo (like splitin signal to 2 amps and so)
I have a question about the fm3 I just got my fm3 today and in order to connect it to my FrFr speaker using XLR’ can I use the XLR mic cables I have or do I need to use a different sort of XLR cables?
A standard mic cable will work fine

Do you find that the FM3 has enough CPU to do everything you want it to do live?
More than enough - I don't need the multiband comp or reverb per se, but the FM3 lets me have them which is awesome!

Hey LT, did your say this guitar is the PRS SE 245? I don;t see an SE on the Headstock Logo. It would be really cool if it was. I can afford an SE but not a Standard or S2 etc. I'm not trying to sound exactly like you, but it would be nice knowing that the axe I had was usable at your levels.....
It's an SC245, one of the USA ones. The se245's are solid guitars at their price as well!
