    That was awesome. One of the best tutorials I’ve seen. Thanks! Still debating between this and the Quad Coretex.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  Год назад

      The quad cortex is nice and small and the UI is attractive. One of our guys at church plays through one. The switches are a bit close together and the platform is still reaching maturity as well as no editor but some of those are fixable. He gets some nice tones out of it for sure. The fractal interface has its issues but the platform is certainly mature. The modeling and effects are top notch. You just have to figure out what works best for you and the presets you will be building (how complex). The fm3 is capable but depending on ambient type effects you like to run, these can hog cpu. I don’t have any experience with the QC though. Thanks for watching!

    Dear Greg your videos are so meaningful and concise to the point. So happy to found you. To say only I have recieved my FM3, how would you setup a backing track for practise along.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  2 года назад +1

      easiest way would be to use the looper. You can access this layout by holding the middle button and scrolling over to the looper layout. From there you can start and step through the recording start, stop, etc functions. I recommend using the metronome feature when recording. It can be accessed through the Tempo page of the Controllers menu. To enable the metronome press the Tempo button
      and adjust the level for the desired output(s). If you already have a backing track you want to use, you can just use the FM3 as an interface and play audio through it and adjust volume in your playback track (on the computer). The FM3 manual has a ton of good info so make sure you download and reference that. If you use the FM3 as an interface and are on windows, make sure you have the driver installed.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  2 года назад

      I think you will get much enjoyment out of the fractal. Once you get your head wrapped around the interface, you will be able to work better with it. The helix interface is great for sure but I personally like the modeling much better on the fractal products. Both are great though.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. My question is how noisy it is on a high gain and how good are noise depressors handling it? Thanks!

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  2 года назад

      It behaves like a normal amp so there can be noise on high gain sounds. There is a built in gate at the input block that you can adjust to taste and you can also add a separate noise gate block as well.

    Hello, excellent video. I would like to know which menu pages (tabs) opens when you press the edit button. The last tab used in the block or you can configure which one will open when pressing the edit button?.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  3 года назад

      You can't configure (that I know of) which one will open every time. It always starts with the input block after the unit powers on, but it will open the last block (even if you switch presets) you were editing if you change it. This behavior will reset back to the input block after power cycling the unit though.

    Hi Greg new subscriber here! I have a newby question, when you want to download a preset from the Fractal website do you have to use the fractal bot to upload it to the fm3?

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  3 года назад +1

      Nope. Fractalbot is good for bulk preset banks (like loading the factory ones), firmware updates, and backing up the unit. You can just go into axe edit and go to manage presets and drag them in or on the file menu you can import a single preset.

      Hey there. That’s somewhat out of my regular listening so I’d have to research that one. Typically I like to figure out what they use live and in the studio and go from there. Doesn’t always come out like I like but that’s where I start first, then I build from there.

    What is the difference between running the delay and reverb parallel vs running it in the same line ??

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  3 года назад +2

      Running them in line is called in series. Whatever is in front off the other will run into it. Example: if the delay is before the reverb, then reverb will be added to the delay repeats. Running parallel makes things cleaner sounded but this is just a preference and depends on what sound you are going for. Try both ways out.

      Yea, understood. At least it’s light years ahead of the AX8 interface. Be thankful you didn’t have to use that (or maybe you did). From that perspective it’s a huge improvement but if you are comparing to helix interface, that’s tough. Line 6 got that right for sure.

    What about the "shunt" in the box which is parallel to the Reverb and Delay Box ? In the real electric world it will be a short circuit for the signal. In the FM 3 world it seems not !

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  3 года назад +1

      I haven’t watched this video since I completed it. In FM3 edit there usually isn’t a shunt. Not sure if I demoed it after I did that on the unit. I may have just made a mistake in the video.

    Holy Shit ! this fractal effects stuff is far more difficult and time consuming then mastering the guitar it's self. Call me "Old School" but... gimme a Strat, a Fender Supersonic 60 with a 4x12" cabinet. Done...

      I hear you. It’s easy to over complicate it though and the benefits for a lot of people outweigh the drawbacks. I love my amps as well but my back and the Places I play really don’t. But every situation for people is different.

      I probably need more info to help you. Are you know getting any sound at all out of your FM3?

    • @michaelzschoche2746
      @michaelzschoche2746 2 года назад

      @@GregSummersMusic so I’ve got sound now, but I can’t figure out how to get a overdrive sound. It’s just only clean, and I can’t figure out how to get out of the edit screen to actually use the pedals etc. o like this thing, but it’s becoming more headache then it seems with lol.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  2 года назад

      It’s always a good idea to reference the manual as well. Learn some basic concepts about the fractal. Cables, shunts, recommended setups, etc. go through some of the factory presets and see how they are laying theirs out. I’m not a huge fan of factory presets but they are a good start. From there install FM3 edit on a computer and see things from that perspective. My video is meant to get people that are familiar with the unit, running FM3 edit and stuck using that always, and then getting to a gig and have no understanding of how to tweak and adjust anything from the front panel. There’s just not enough time for me to have an all in one video and truthfully, most people won’t watch or pay attention long enough to get everything in one video. You are an exception to the rule…and thank you. If you advance over to a block you can turn the dial, pick the block you want and press enter then move to the next area.

    • @michaelzschoche2746
      @michaelzschoche2746 2 года назад

      @@GregSummersMusic I appreciate your time. I just got the unit yesterday and don’t have my computer for a while. I was just trying to set up a basic clean, gain, reverb, and maybe some wah to try and have a little fun from the unit itself. It’s proving challenging, but I’m sure there’s a way. Hey one last question, is there a way to play songs from my I hope through the unit so I can jam along with them?
      Also can’t figure out how to use my expression pedal. I can’t figure how to select it from the unit itself. You don’t need to figure it out for me. I was just saying. I’ll keep researching.

    • @GregSummersMusic
      @GregSummersMusic  2 года назад

      I think there’s a typo there so I’m not sure of the exact question but you can play through anything that is connected to the USB port so if you have your laptop, iPad, etc attached, you can play that and play along with it. For the other part, yes, the interface can be challenging but just slow the video down, get your basic cable there with in and out block then fill in the middle with a drive, amp, cab, delay and/or reverb, chorus, etc and then work on each block to adjust the parameters based on the video. It’s been a while since I’ve done this video so I can’t remember how I exactly laid it all out.
