    Incredible preparation by an incredible mind. His loss of a "Napoleon" was his gain for "Barry Lyndon".... Whatever you think of Kubrick, both good and bad, he was a filmmaking genius... admired by other filmmakers.

    It's a great shame this movie never came to fruition. I am inclined to agree with Kubrick that this may have been the greatest movie ever made. A shame that it never did.

    Learned that as NB and his romantic interest were transported to St. Helena she panicked with terror thinking they were being sent to Antarctica then fighting to jump ship in suicide.

    With all of his dedication to War and Peace, Bondarchuk actually killed horses for realism. Callous, inhumane, and arrogant. Killed distribution. 8 hours long!

      @@richalexander1138are you serious?! That movie leaves out so much important moments in napoleons life and instead focuses to much on the romance between napoleon and josephine. Several Events are in the wrong order and napoleons great achievements besides his wars, such as the Code Napoleon, are completly left out. The battle scenes are visually very good, but there are so many Stereotypes and mistakes. The movie felt like Ridley scott took a scissor and randomly cut out parts of napoleons life and mixed the rest together. If kubrick would have made his movie, it certainly would have been far better both in quality and accuracy!

    16:21 A surprising anachronism in the very first page of the script: the Teddy bear Napoleon slept with as a child. Setting aside the fact that the "Teddy" in Teddy bear refers to US president Theodore Roosevelt, ferocious animals as cuddly toys are a modern idea.
    But, we all know how little time Kubrick spent on historic and scientific accuracy. Har har har! 😂

    • @lccinema1993
      @lccinema1993  11 месяцев назад +2

      "Teddy bear" may actually be for the convenience of the crew to work better, because in the scene must be a bear toy that has undergone historical research, and the word "teddy bear" will not appear.

      @TheStockwell 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@lccinema1993 Now that Spielberg is producing a based-on-Kubrick production, it will be interesting to see if it has the original shot. As long as the bear isn't replaced by Tickle Me Elmo or a Teletubby, I don't mind. 😺

    Great video.
    Kubrick was right. "Waterloo" truly is a silly movie, poorly written and with Rod Steiger playing Napoleon like a cheap Hitler impersonation. It's a shame we got that piece of crap instead of what would have undoubtedly been a masterpiece from Kubrick.

    • @oxanareymers7521

      If you don't like Waterloo it doesn't mean it is a bad movie. Of course Kubrik is genius, but Sergei Bondarchuk is a great director. In my opinion, the more movies about Nspoleon , the better.

    I love 'Barry Lyndon'!!
    I can't get tired of watching it again and again, jointly with '2001' and 'Dr. Strangelove'.
    It is a pitiful shame that Kubrick could not find the funding and make 'Napoleon'.
    I am not a big fan of the overrated Steven Spielberg, so I won't watch his probably schmaltzy, bloated version of the Kubrick's vision. I already wasted enough of my time with the awful 'A.I.'!

    " history can not be assumed "
    That is a nonsensical phrase.
    History is a series of past events. Assuming is is a mental process (it means, basically, to suppose something).
    Another meaning of assume is to take over (where control shifts from one person to another). I don' t think that was the meaning here. And again, history can't be assumed .
    Somewhere you had a different idea but it didn't translate into English.
    ( just a comment, not a criticism )
