That is very well said "she doesn't want to over power anyone" Yes, Tarja does that often when she is featuring in a song... she doesn't use the full power of her voice. She uses more of her, should I say "pop" voice. It doesn't take as much space as her operatic or lyrical voice.

This is such a beautiful song. I am glad for your reaction. The reactions where you focus more on the lyric are my favorites. It has so many meanings and Tarja is very emotional here. It's hard to listen to without leaving an impact.I love this one, its message and Ralf's voice. And Tarja doesn't sound operatic here at all. Some blame her for not being able to sing otherwise, but the opposite is true. She sounds beautiful with Ralf. And not only with him.
She's way more versatile than haters know. But they're haters so of course they don't know much. It's part of being a hater. But she's a rock and metal singer, not an opera singer, which means she has the classical foundation but the versatility required for different kinds of music. Opera singers are strictly "by the book" singers and they don't seem to deviate from those certain techniques.
You should watch Tarja with the Brazilian band Angra. In the DVD from 2013, for the 20th anniversary for their debut album, she sings two songs: Stand Away (an Angra original where she shares vocals with their current singer, Fabio Lione) and Wuthering Heights (Angra's version of the Kate Bush classic).
Primal Fear is one of the best german power metal ever, this song is just a ballad, usually they are much heavier. Ralf ,the lead singer,was în Gamma Ray on the first 3 albums and în the final list for replacing Rob Halford în Judas Priest
