Mistakes. 1. You. Oil the lower gearbox. 2. This is not a standard outboard. It's a shallows outboard for powering boats in extremely shallow water like 5 inches. It is way less efficient and slower than a propeller outboard. Your air cooled motor is far more reliable in seaweed or jellyfish water because it won't clog the cooling system. It's a nice unit for bass ponds. It can't handle high speed waterways.
1. Always keep motor vertical once oil added. 2. 10 hour break in, Idle for first 10 min, vary speed every 10 min, never go over 3/4 throttle until the 10 hour breaking in complete. 3. Make sure choke is off... it is 3 position and will run, though sluggishly in the start position. 4. 10w 30 oil.. 5. Use only 91-93 octane fuel. This is just the cliffs notes.. But this is a good STRONG motor. Not necessarily fast, but reliable if the manual is read and the tips above followed. I would upgrade to a ngk plug though.

I have the prop version of that motor and I get 5mph on an original catch 100. You might have a problem with the jet unit you might want to look into that if you end up getting stuck with it. I'm working on lifting my motor on the transom and getting the cavitation plate more even with the bottom of the hull, I might be able to get a little more speed out of it, time will tell.

A few things on this outboard... First, jet versions do not go as fast as prop versions. You may need to adjust the throttle cable (it may be barely moving the actual throttle), some outboard do not ship with lower unit oil. Also, just n FYI - be careful about how you lay it down (usually they can only lay on one specific side).
Yeah the jet style offers slower speeds, I check the throttle cable it is stretched to the max, even lifted the motor while running nothing, it is going back I'm gonna make sure to drain all liquids. The manual says it has to be up right lol
Thanks for the honest review. In my Catch 130 i use a watersnake electric motor in a Hobie Eclipse Cassette Plug with a battery Lithium 50 Amp instead of pedals ..., that's good! !!!
I had one these and I really liked it. Just know the side you turn it so it doesn't leak when tilted. Factors that affect your speed are tide, wind and current my dude! Also is cheap, if you use it on calm waters you'll do just fine.
Fine tune the air and fuel mixture screws and make sure your throttle is moving all the way to full throttle. Doesn’t sound like it is running as fast of RPM that it should. Small engine person could help you tweak it but it's still not going to be scary fast with the plastic prop size and flexing
Your video is showing there is no problem with your first trial. What was the problem? But I've noticed is that this engine is too heavy for your kayak. There is water coming in the back. Check what hp capacity can your kayak handle?
You have the mud tunnel version, not the propeller version. It's 1500 watts. 2 horsepower. Your special outboard is designed to operate in 4 inches of water and run very slow. Switch the bottom end with a similar propeller motor that has worn out and you will see speed. You have to lubricate the lower unit on some. Motor:20W50. Gearbox 85W140. Your motor is OK. Just deliberately slow.
You can't improve on what you got. It's not the engines fault. Its the design that you ordered. It is a lawn mower type engine. It will have a rev limiter and will probably not go much over 3500 rpm. That is half what a normal outboard will do. Couple that with a pump and you get what it was designed to be, a trolling motor. Get a propeller lower end.
@@AliexFolgueira Design like this are made for the purpose of going places that kill propeller driven outboards. Its a bad idea with a motor this small. Hope you can get ur money back.
