Hi Steve hope you're well. Great video and information back in film days there always seemed to be rules in photography, but with today's digital photography I think a lot of the so called rules don't apply are a myth. It's all about finding the sweet spot as you say for the lens you're using. Great photos as always. Just remembered back in the day when doing landscape photography we all seemed preoccupied by hyperfocal distance the lens even had a hyperfocal distance scales on the barrel, not sure if that's even a thing now. Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen
Hey Jon, hope you both are well. As you know from your film days the quality of light is very important. To flat or too harsh massively impacts the image. To balance this you need to know what your camera and lens can do. Today we have sensors, some can handle high ISO better than others (quality) film days? the quality of the film itself. Simply put F11 on poor film will give different results than F11 on a good quality film. The same applies on digit. So is F11 the best option? nope. Have a look at the images you took over your recent holiday here, how many was F11? I am intrigued. Like you said, Focal distance plays a massive part. Stay Safe.
@StephenJoines couldn't agree more, light is king lenses, sensors and even the camera firmware give different looks to an image, I all comes down to light.
Mine tend to be around 7.1 and 9 and sometimes over. I agree, I would say around 8 to 16 depending on the focal range between for and background. I see why the last one was higher, for the sunstar. Good tip. Oh, I want your car.
@marcushall4917 Thanks Marcus. The issue is every photographer has there own view on this. But I found most of those who actually do landscape say the same, F11 is not the best. Also, they say the same it is about the quality of light. Stay safe. Oh, and no, Angel is my baby.
@CameTo still learning the vid aspect of things. The 180 rule ... how do you expect that to work here? I am on my own and not looking at another person? Not wishing to be rude, but looking at your videos you have no idea what you are saying.
@@StephenJoines Nothing wrong with your vids mate. I have just checked out his stuff. Don't understand his channel, various rubbish and drone stuff .... which he needs to learn how to fly one as the movement is not smooth at all. obviously a kid with no clue.
Hey Marcus. Don't worry, I do try and improve on what I do which sometimes advice given is greatly received. But, only criticise if your own work is clean. On this occasion I will sit back and laugh. Stay Safe.

@@StephenJoines Angel? 666 is the Devil?
@@marcushall4917 Its an Angel number. like 111 or 222. 666 means - Take a step back and reflect on your higher purpose.
What about the 180 rule? I was getting dizzy by 2.30
