01:08 📷 Shutter Speed Basics: Controls exposure by managing the time the shutter is open. Faster speeds freeze action, slower speeds introduce blur. Adjust according to creative intent and shooting conditions. 03:27 🌀 Aperture Essentials: Controls light through the lens opening (Iris). Smaller f-stop values mean larger apertures. Affects depth of field; smaller f-stops yield a shallow focus, larger for more focus. 05:43 💡 ISO Fundamentals: Determines sensor gain for brightness. Higher ISO brightens the image but introduces noise. Keep ISO as low as possible, considering other settings. 07:18 🔄 Setting Order: First, decide on shutter speed for freezing or blurring motion. Next, consider depth of field with aperture. Lastly, adjust ISO, preferably using auto ISO with bracketing. 08:28 ☀ Exposure Adjustment: If too dark, increase ISO until desired exposure. If too bright and ISO is at its minimum, adjust shutter speed faster. Understanding these basics forms a foundation for photography.
My photography teacher taught the same thing but in a way I could not even understand, I can't believe I am paying a huge sum for the information this man is telling for free.
While this is not new information to experienced photographers I think you have done a wonderful job explaining the triangle! Good reinforcement. Thank you.
@@patkay this video is so well done and the way you gave real life applications and examples to the information given made it entertaining for photographers of every level. Keep doing exactly what you're doing!
Totally agree. I was listening to this and thought how part of loving photography is being intrigued by the basics. No matter how many times I’ve heard it discussed before.
Also if any of you are shooting digital then learn your preferred photo editing software's (Lightroom, Darktable, etc) capabilities inside out. It allows you to know the limits of your camera and what is possible to change in post. Especially de-noising, if you shoot a noisy image you might be not like it and delete it but a lot of times you find that the denoiser in your editor is more than capable of fixing it!
I love this beginners guide series, I just found this video this morning and while I already knew most of this information I loved the way you broke it down and gave examples of all real life applications to what you were teaching; I'm excited to see where this series goes.
Yes!!! Another series! I love how you breakdown and explain things. I thoroughly enjoy how you express and articulate your craft. Keep up the awesome work!
I've tried to break into hobby photography for years, I've have had many people try to explain the basics to me but they just wouldn't stick. This video made everything so bloody clear I have no idea how I found it so complicated for so long 😂
This was an awesome refresher for me as I navigate learning the basics of filming my art practice. Up til now I have relied on using my IPhone but have recently purchased the Sony fx30 and Sony A74 so need to actually understand how to control these fabulous cameras! Just about to hit play on your next videos but wanted to say thankyou for dialling back the "asumed knowledge" whilst I learn the absolute basics.

Auto ISO in manual mode is the best thing since sliced bread. It allows you to focus only on shutter speed and aperture and forget about iso because it doesn't have any creative effect
The best simple yet comprehensive video on these 3 settings I’ve seen! The questions & troubleshooting tips at the end were exactly what I needed. It really helped to hear your process as well. Looking to pick up my camera again 😄

Amazing introduction and very easy to understand! This is the first video I watched regarding the basics of the exposure triangle and I found it very helpful! Thanks a lot :)
I need to write a few lines about photography basics in a story I work on. At first I was worried you’re going way too much into depth and I may end up confused. But everything was very clear and easy to understand. Thanks for the great video.
I've watched a few videos / lessons on photography basics, I reckon your explanation is the best. You have a real gift, thank you for sharing it with us :)
This was such a great video! I knew about these basic terms since the past decade, but today i truly understood how they actually make a difference. The examples and analogy provided after introducing each term is so helpful I thank you sincerely
Love loved this video! ❤ I bought my first camera ever (a Ricoh gr iiix Urban Edition), and while I wait for it to arrive I’m trying to learn all I can. Just subscribed ☺️
I am sooo new to this world! I just bought my camera yesterday and your vids have calmed me down tremendously and help me understand a bit more of the journey I am about to go on. Thank you.
Very nice and informative but Pat, I was not ready for that photo of what I assume is Mt. Fuji. Goodness, what a gorgeous image that is! I had to pause and just admire it for a few minutes. Thank you!
When thinking about ISO, it might be helpful to remember that, back in the day of analog photography, this used to be a factor you had, very little control over, because it wasn't a camera setting, but a property of the type of film you were using. So, once you had bought and inserted a film roll, your ISO was pretty much determined for the next 24-36 shots. The only settings to play around with then were your shutter speed and your aperture, and of course the lens you chose to use, if you were lucky enough to actually have much of a choice there.
as someone with a basic knowledge of iso, aperture and shutter speed through use of streaming and webcams this was VERY useful at connecting all the dots and knowing how it all comes together to create a better image. thank you.
Loved this !!! OMG this makes it so much more clear to me. Just a quick question... When i take my pictures/videos, I always have this sort of pink/green highlight around my subjects... what is it due to ? Is there a way of avoiding it with camera settings or only in the editing process ? Thank you so much :))
I haven’t picked up my camera for a few years and I’ve forgotten everything! So thanks for this, its super helpful. I’ll be subscribing and watching your other videos 😊
Finally, I am not confused by a "beginners tutorial" because you kept it very clear. Thanks man!
