Presentation of the national anthem of the United States of America as performed by Sandi Patty combining the original lyrics written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 with a second, highly popular, verse composed by Claire Clonninger for the Statue of Liberty Centennial Celebration in 1986.
History:
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.
The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men's social club in London. "The Anacreontic Song" (or "To Anacreon in Heaven"), with various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. Set to Key's poem and renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner", it would soon become a well-known American patriotic song. With a range of one and a half octaves, it is known for being difficult to sing. Although the poem has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today.
Sandi Patty is one of the most highly acclaimed performers of our time with five Grammy Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold records, and eleven million recordings sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as "The Voice." In fact, she is the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history. Sandi was introduced to the world with her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Virtually overnight she became one of the nation's best-loved performers and she has performed this stirring rendition of the national anthem over 1000 times in the last 25+ years.
Claire Cloninger is a six-time winner of the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award winner for lyric writing. Her songs have been widely recorded by such artists as Amy Grant, Sandi Patti, Wayne Watson, Don Moen and B.J. Thomas, to name a few.
She was commissioned by the national Statue of Liberty Centennial Committee to write a new second verse to "The Star-Spangled Banner" which was used as part of the centennial celebration. This popular new version of the national anthem was also used to cap off a patriotic centennial extravaganza at Disney World.

The US have given up a lot for world peace; its better for our brave soldiers to return home to MAGA!
That said, of course a strong military must be in place, so that the world goes out of control, we'll get it back on track

That part was one of the more difficult parts of this video to piece together as I had to crop each star field from its respective flag, then get them all resized to be the same size, then put them in order add an aged video filter effect to each individual photo, and then finally add in the transitions... In the video it only lasts about 10 seconds but took several hours of editing to get it just right. These videos are really a labor of love and I am glad they are being viewed and appreciated. :-)

I'd like to see a similar video (I didn't mind the Reagan image, but please none of the current prez) with one of the military choirs/bands/orchestras.
I really liked the slides/videos chosen in this one. Maybe a bit less of the advertizing at the end, but that, is your business, and I understand that. Thank yo for this. (S. Patty's soprano, while wonderful, can be challenging to listen to. I'd love to hear a men's military choir singing. Just thought I'd give some input. Thank you for posting this.

Just awesome! Where can I find the lyrics? I want to print them out. My foreign friends love this song so I gave them Sandi's cd with it on it. They have a little trouble understanding some of the lyrics. BTW, I love all your versions!

KarenCarpenter Fan The first verse of Ms. Patty's version is only one of four in the original poem, "The Defense of Fort McHenry," by Francis Scott Key. The poem records his experience of being trapped aboard a British ship (he was there to negotiate a prisoner exchange) by the commencement of the naval bombardment of Fort McHenry off Baltimore. With all respect to Ms. Patty, I have reasons for preferring the poem as Mr. Key wrote it. You can easily find the complete text by Googling either the title or the poet's name.

Nice, but wrong lyrics after the first stanza. Sorry kids, this is a National Anthem, not a pop song. Some of the visuals are really good. However it would have been much better if they'd stuck to the original lyrics. We so rarely hear the whole song, pity that.
