The Army i joined in July of 1959 was very different than the present one. We did not have any pre basic prepping, we did not pay for meals and our uniforms...or any everyday equiptment. We had a platoon who did that as well 😂I was over in 1/50 back in like 2012/2013 and they got destroyed every single day 😂 but it gets boring after like white phase anyways so why not
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video! Our son left for Fort Benning Jan. 3 and is in red phase now. It eases my mind knowing what he is doing ❤
Rucks and runs (I suck at controlling my breathing) were physically the hardest part for me, if I could go back in time I would have prepared so much better with a weighted vest.
Boys and girls, I remember the first day of basic training with vivid, terrified clarity. Phase 1 they called it, followed by 2 and 3. By the way, no battle buddies in 1983. The setting: gravel parade ground, 5 barracks, 2 latrines, 1 mess hall, and a community barracks with a pool table, a stereo, and a few posters. It wasn't much, but by the third week, we thought it was Las Vegas. We got dropped for EVERYTHING. We didn't put our headgear together fast enough, we didn't help each other without being told, we didn't stow away our gear... EVERYTHING. We found out how many push-ups there were in a day. Almost forgot: for the first week, they dared us to drink anything but milk or water.
Thank you so much for these videos. My son is currently at Fort Sill (day 12). Without much contact with him, this really helped ease my mind and know what he has been doing. ❤
Eduardo Hernandez i was told i’ll be getting shipped out to fort benning, for infantry. but there was an issue with my asvab test, i passed my physical. but there’s a 30 day push back if you fail the asvab, i didn’t fail, my score from my home town was a little higher than the one from MEPS, it’s retarded but it’s apart of the procedures they have to do. super disappointed, i was gonna swear in TODAY! with the other kids. we took a 4 hour shuttle to MEPS and only 2 kids out of 10 from my bus got to swear in. we all have to go back in 30 days, some for other reasons but yeah man. i legit just got home, my recruiters were pissed at MEPS.

EDIT: If your gas mask is slightly too large and you cannot get a replacement, fit it as best as possible, then open your mouth to force the mask to seal against your lower face. And, we were forced into the gas building with no mask on at least one occasion during basic training.

Hi, love your videos. My boyfriend practically studied your videos before he left Aug 28th. He is currently at basic training at ft Benning finishing up his red phase. He sent me a letter asking if I could send him some moleskin due to his blisters from his boots. I know we can send them packages but they are very limited items on the list. Will I get him in trouble if I attach a roll of moleskin in the same envelope that my letters are in?
When I was in basic, we could go to church services Saturday night and Sunday. But only one service each day. Sunday if I remember had 2 or 3 services Saturday only had one. I recommend you go. You get away from the stress of basic.

all the drill sergeants are going to be yelling at you at one time telling you to run to do push ups yelling to pick up ur bags put them down pick them up again it's that bad tho
Avery NiteStar Glover it takes a minium of 20 years to retire. You enlist for 2-6 years initially depending on the mos. After that you can reen list for whatever is available at the time. You aren't required to do indefinite reen list mentioned until you're an e6 and have been in for 11 years

I remember the Gas Chamber of the CS. Once that task was over and the unit went to the next class the PVT next to me started to have a epileptic seizure I was able to catch him and get to floor with out injury. That was before we had basic first aid training. The PVT was given a profile that kept him from ever being able to use or carry live ammo since it was found that he had a reaction to the cs gas. this was back in September of 1983 in Ft Leonard Wood.

My youngest son just left yesterday to Fort Benning, thanks for this video, it's helping me to understand what he will be doing. I'm having a hard time coping with him heading to the Army
I have a buddy of mine that i went through basic with in June 2017, He was prior service Marine Corps as a Corpsman. He told me from his personal experience that Marine Corps Basic Training is Alot more Difficult due to the fact its overtly more physical. i.e 10 Pull ups in 2 minutes, 100 Crunches in 2 minutes, and a 15:36 2 Mile run for his age group. The Army Physical Fitness test has nothing on the marine corps physical. also Training is alot more intense for Marine Corps recruits, The DI's are alot more unrestrained, due to different Tradoc policy's on how they can treat you. Hope it helps.
Thanks for all your videos my husband is in the middle of red phase. It's nice to hear what they do 😁👍it's not like this just helps me either I get to explain to my kids what is going on right now too . Makes them feel included in it all. So again thank you!

The best video! Thank you for getting to the point and keeping it that way! In the part of PT @8:45; they separate you into the group that is at the same fitness level at you? You like an Officer lol What is the perception of a 33 year old joining? I lived my 20's out partying and living life and now I am ready to do join.
I'm joining (hopefully) early next year at 27. I lost about 30 lbs so far and all I gotta do now is remove some hand tattoos and I'm gold. It's somewhat comforting to know I won't be the only "old man" surrounded by kids haha.
I joined at age 31. Went in as 11X. My basic was an experimental class. All Special Forces and Ranger contracts, with the exception of a few National guardsmen. We had Red, White, Blue, Black and Gold phase. I'd say a good 30% of us were over 30. You'll get some comments here and there about your age, but for the most part the older guys had more discipline. It was a great experience.

@ you’ll be in Fort Sam, Texas it’s right in San Antonio so that’s nice but you won’t be able to get out much until you phase up. Funny story I ended up having to go signal and just recently was able to re-class to 68k so I’m finishing up phase one of the course right now but as prior service. it’s a lot of studying but as long as you’re focused, you’ll be fine.
Am actually in Texas san Antonio will be fine for me for AIT....how is the day to day job like?
Would I be able to pursue BSN as a 68k?
my platoon stayed red phase entire time cause we kept fukin up
Coldbidz Rest In Peace
We had a platoon who did that as well 😂I was over in 1/50 back in like 2012/2013 and they got destroyed every single day 😂 but it gets boring after like white phase anyways so why not
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video! Our son left for Fort Benning Jan. 3 and is in red phase now. It eases my mind knowing what he is doing ❤
Mine started on Jan 20th. CHARLIE Company
I just want to Comment so after Basic Training I can look back at this 🥴
How'd it go?
I made it through! It was hard but I did it lol I’ll post my experience on my channel after AIT
@@Poli.ticking I'll check it out!
Awesome man! Make sure you drop your channel so we can watch!
Can I watch your basic experience?
Thank you so much for these videos. My son is currently at Fort Sill (day 12). Without much contact with him, this really helped ease my mind and know what he has been doing. ❤
alot of us exaggerated the shark experience
Thankful for this video. My husband shipped out today for training in fort benning and this helps me fully understand what he’s going through.
I ship tomorrow to Benning and im for sure not gonna miss my 114° degree weather of south Texas 😂
i’m getting shipped out august 19 and yeah west texas wether can a little rough too
Yoooo Jaime, fam, I'm also shipping August 19. What fort tho?
Oct 17, 2019 (I'm a 19K)
I finished OSUT 7 days ago and I can tell you that it has been the best 15 weeks of my life specially in my Black and Gold phases where I got to drive the tank and shoot the 120mm main gun with the 240L and 50 cal machine gun.
@@tommyhurtado4725 hello tommy can you please reply to this, I ship out in 14 days for 19k and am a bit anxious. I just want to know what to expect for me and you seem like the guy
I personally love how long the video is. It gives more time for information. I’m getting ready to sign up for national guard so I’m getting prepared.
Just a note fyi, a mile is 1.61KM or ~ 1610 meters.
EDIT: If your gas mask is slightly too large and you cannot get a replacement, fit it as best as possible, then open your mouth to force the mask to seal against your lower face. And, we were forced into the gas building with no mask on at least one occasion during basic training.
Hey man love the videos, Im off to basic next month and ive been binge watching all of your videos and I find them very useful i feel like youve helped me get a positive mindset and im actually excited rather then nervous appreciate the help man
It's been four years. How are you now? I'm in the middle of my application process
Anything you have to share?
I WILL MAKE SURE NOT TO BE THE LAST OFF THE BUS!!!!
If you do end up in back, maybe say : DRILL SARGENT, I WAS STAYING BEHIND TO MAKE SURE THE REST OF MY SQUAD DID NOT ALSO END UP LAST. IM A TEAM PLAYER, DRILL SARGENT.

Well thank you!

Make sure you wear running shoes to basic, I wore dress shoes and walked around wearing pt shorts and Clark’s Bostonians lmao. And prepare for about 8 needles at once
Hey just recently graduated basic training. Just wanted to say your videos defintely helped so thank you. I remember one instance where, thanks to your advice I stopped a buddy from picking up a Drill Sergeants campaign hat!
hahaa that's awesome man! And congrats on graduating!!!

Nice I leave a day earlier as a 19D as well!
I was doing research for basic training, not for me, but to understand what my boyfriend idling through. Granted, he’s in the Air Force, but I’d gather it’s similar enough to make me understand a little of it. I miss him greatly, but I thank you for helping me understand more about what he’s going through.
Aahhhh... The good old smart book! Mine was basically destroyed by the time we were done!
I was there in 2007, red phase sucked. I was a cop before I went in and I think the shark attack sucked more. I was older when I went in and you know they love giving us older guys a hard time. Thank you for your service. Btw the 15 up 15 down for sleeping, sucked the most.... I love my sleep.
Watching this in 2020 again, I leave next Tuesday for basic!
Hows it going?
@@georgemaxwell3467 Graduated May 7th, it was a fun time all of different stuff from what the videos said but they helped me get in the mindset. Corona Virus has ruined a lot of stuff like combatives.

Been watching your vlogs man, i think most of them. Thanks alot first off. I feel alot better because of this. 88m is what i hopefully will get as my mos. Its taken a bit longer for a medical waiver and a juvenile offense (17 years ago). But my recruiter has got my papers lined up. Super exited. Iam on the older side. An hopefully can help out younger soldiers. long story short i would like to help if i can in vlogs. But first things first. Thanks again!

Thank you for these videos. I know very little about Army Basic Training and my husband left reception for BCT yesterday! I feel much better knowing more about what he is doing throughout his time at Benning. He is in Charlie Co 1-46! :)
Karina Willis did you ever send it? What happened?
Should of sent him a pocket pussy
@@sandiego-yg9jx you can make that with a latex glove and a army shirt. It’s called a fifi. Thank you weird prison videos on RUclips. Lol
When I was in basic, we could go to church services Saturday night and Sunday. But only one service each day. Sunday if I remember had 2 or 3 services Saturday only had one. I recommend you go. You get away from the stress of basic.
after the shark attack you will do a layout don't lose any of your shit 3ed day you'll get ur weapon first week don't expect sleep I went to fort Jackson 2 years ago they would ask questions in the chow line so read your blue book, the soldiers creed and ranks know them all of them
Yepp
Eric Kurtz I have a question. If I want to do a good amount of years in the army for Cyber Security or any other job, is it possible to retire at age 30-35? I'm currently 20.
Eric Kurtz what do you mean by shark attack ?
all the drill sergeants are going to be yelling at you at one time telling you to run to do push ups yelling to pick up ur bags put them down pick them up again it's that bad tho
Avery NiteStar Glover it takes a minium of 20 years to retire. You enlist for 2-6 years initially depending on the mos. After that you can reen list for whatever is available at the time. You aren't required to do indefinite reen list mentioned until you're an e6 and have been in for 11 years
Good info. I joined in 1989. Only video I had to watch prior to going to basic training was "Full Metal Jacket"

Penelope Knowles We got this! I'm getting more excited.

Can you stay out of trouble and maintain discipline for seven years? If the answer is yes, then you will be a credit to the service.
My son has been wanting this every since he was 5 years old
No evil in early planning. If you know what is needed to achieve your goals and are able and willing to do what it takes, then glory to your spunk. Keep your education on track and stay out of trouble.
I remember the fire alarm going off randomly at least 3 different occasions in the middle of night and the speakers were directly above the beds and we all had to run out to the rock pit to be accounted for at like 2 am some people didn't even have shoes on just pts or shower shoes

how many people enlist with a college degree? Is it worth it to enlist then apply for ocs after bootcamp or wait and hope to get accepted in ocs
Shootemup89 HI! How you compare Army basic to USMC recruit training?
Another summer guy from Benning. You earned that brother. Hooah.
+James foster Its definitely rough over summer!

The best video! Thank you for getting to the point and keeping it that way! In the part of PT @8:45; they separate you into the group that is at the same fitness level at you? You like an Officer lol What is the perception of a 33 year old joining? I lived my 20's out partying and living life and now I am ready to do join.
Hi, I'm also 30 and enlisting. I'm going to Fort Hood in Jan 2018. I wish you all the best fellow soldier !
I live in houston & I ship out tomorrow, Jan. 7th to Ft. Benning, Georgia. Airborne Infantry 11B. I’ve heard basic sucks but I’m very excited with this next step in my life.
Just go under your bunk like you're tightening your sheets to catch some zzz's
I wish we had you tube and these videos before I went to basic in 1983. I went to Ft. Lost In The Woods from October - December.. extremely cold as you might imagine.
