What's the difference in flavor between lemon zest and orange sherbet? I'm trying to decide between the two trees. My main concern for lemon zest is its disease resistance.
    Thanks

In my opinion, they are similar in flavor but have much difference while in side by side tastings. LZ is a much bigger mango so better flesh to seed ratio compared to OS. The texture of lemon zest is firm and dense, whereas OS is smooth yet juicy, closer to NDM in texture. From the trees in our garden it seems OS tends to grow into a compactly shaped tree with many lateral branches, whereas LZ tends to grow up vertically. Both trees seem to have a good vigor, although I might have to trim LZ more to keep it compact. So far both have been disease free for us. I have planted LZ in a more breezy area closer to the river, so perhaps less fungal issues. But we are also 2-3 miles from the ocean, so maybe not so humid as inland. Hope this helps! Good luck.

What you are usually do with all these mango after the video ends? Are you eating these all by yourself! 😂 Nice video.

Thank you Maggie. After the video, most of the times we keep sitting at the same place and finish eating all the mangoes. And then compost the skins and seeds. Sometimes it is too hot outside so we go inside and eat or keep in the fridge to eat later. Usually if the mangoes are as tasty & in their peak flavor like in this video they don’t last long, we finish them right away at the spot 😁.

Probably, You're close to an end on your journey of taste testing different mango cultivars. This is a very weird mango season in terms of harvesting. Most of the mango Grove owners picked lot of immature fruits this year because time wasn't in their side. Almost 20-30% of the mangos they picked were immature. They wrinkled and rot eventually. Evaluating these pseudo-mature mangos is a very complex task. But you did your best.
I pretty much taste tested most of these cultivars last year with a very positive note as they didn't have any maturity and ripening issues.
Please try rest of the mango varieties in their full maturity and ripeness grown in FLORIDA. Most of the mango connoisseurs, I believe, would agree with this list of the mangos I provided below as very good to excellent .I've another list of worlds greatest mangos grown in their native conditions. I'll post that later. Here are few US grown cultivars In their alphabetical orders and of course they go by different harvest schedule.

thank you very much for your feedback, sir. I agree that this year has been very different from previous years and many mangoes were picked immature. But surprisingly, this year the mangoes we tried from established growers (Gary Zill and Walter Zill in particular) were much tastier and more complex, with a much higher brix than last seasons. As for immature/improperly ripened fruit: if I see the taste that is off, i mention it in the video and try to acquire more fruit of this variety and possibly from other growers and make a new tasting video, as I did with Orange Sherbet and some others, so it's a good lesson in my opinion, not to get stuck with the taste if it's not perfect and not to judge fruit if it's not the best representation of that variety, and that's also the reason I wrote a disclaimer under each of my mango tasting videos...
I have been eating the best tree ripened mangoes since childhood living in a climate similar to South Florida, so my standard was high to start with, and i was looking for particular mango flavors when i came to Florida and started my mango journey. And I'm not going to stop if one or two fruits' taste is off:)
I am familiar with the taste of all these varieties from your list except one, that's a great list, all the tasty varieties and i like all of them. If you live around please let us know if we can visit your mango garden sometime and buy some mangoes to include in our tastings for this year, if you have anything that matured properly. I have most of them growing in my garden but they are only 2-3 years old, still establishing their roots and hopefully will be productive in 1-2 years.
Except for Giselle i have tasted all of them, have been tasting them for the last few years here in Florida. We drove to Homestead, Delray, West Palm Beach and even Bokeelia in Pine Island to taste different mangoes from different microclimates, so it was an exciting comparison over the last several years, grove to grove, farmer to farmer.
Please share your world list as well, i have eaten many mangoes in Nepal and India since my childhood, so it would be great to see which ones you like.
