Tasting Mangoes in Missouri: GISELLE, CARABAO, DASHERI
This is the recent tasting of the mangoes mentioned above, in my work state of Missouri, and a little rant about unkind commenters.
Just remember that you are a guest here, try to behave yourself~~~no one but yourself has to deal with you if you want to harm others, with your words or actions, so you will be sent into a ban. Look in the mirror and smile before attempting to write something nasty.
Please be kind to each other, share mangoes and kind words with the ones you love and the ones you don't know! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

Well, it would be amazing to be your neighbor! It is very rewarding sharing mangoes. I sent 11 sweet tart mangoes from my tree to my mom (they are very good shipping mangoes!) and she was so very happy. I could freeze the extras and enjoy them frozen, but blessing someone who can’t grow them themselves is a wonderful thing.

I planted the seed and the tree is growing on some farm, been about 6 years don't think its fruited yet. but I don't live in that country anymore although I will be visiting the farm, so i will check up on the tree, I know seedlings don't come up true to parent so, no guarantee it will be any good,

Luckily we’re in unincorporated area of Miami-Dade. There is no HOA (consciously - we were looking for a non-HOA property), no city enforcement crawling around. As long as your trees don’t block the street view for the drivers, we’re in a good place. There was an old lady who was constantly complaining about uncut grass, but she disappeared somehow 😵‍💫 and we try to cut the small strip of grass in front of the gate whenever possible.

The one i got for tasting and the one Tropical Acres mango farm sells is not Tymour. It looks more like Sukari or Succari. I guess Julian has the same variety that Tropical Acres has, both got from the USDA collection. But research says Tymour and Ewais have higher brix than Sukari, that is quite impressive since Sukari is already very sweet. For me the complexity of taste is more important than brix, after brix 18-20 its the complexity of the taste that stands out in excellent varieties. Here are my tastings of Succari/USDA Taimour: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoMuICHzwLQFU/edit Ewais: ruclips.net/video/0sF1AXtBEH8/видео.html

How wonderful to see someone from Nepal here. I am from Nepal as well. I grew up in Biratnagar in southeastern part of the country, where mangos grew very well and climate was similar to south Florida. Here, all my experience growing and tasting mangos has been in south Florida. To be honest, i have no clue growing mangos in mountains. But we moved to Costa Rica in mountain region so i will be trialing them next 4-5 years. So far my experience is that in mountains growth is slow so using a vigorous rootstock helps. Any variety that can bloom with prolonged dry period will work. Look into Thai and Vietnamese varieties.

I just ordered a Barbie pink tree, but I have never tasted one. If I grow one from seed, will it be true to its hybrid name? I keep hearing different opinions about this. I have only tried one guava in my life that I bought from an Asian market, and it was a white crunchy variety. It tasted terrible and had no sweetness. Hopefully, this tree will produce something better.

Haha this was the reason my wife never wanted to plant any guavas; she tasted the green crunchy ones in Asia and said it’s the most ridiculous fruit. Of course Barbie Pink is very different. I’m describing the taste in the video, it’s also extremely aromatic. Good luck with your tree! It usually produces very fast, our air layered tree held fruit same year after separating from mother tree. Seedlings of guava don’t always come true, but worth planting several especially if you have land for that. Sometimes seedlings exceed the parent in certain characteristics, that’s how new varieties are made. If you end up with a mediocre tree, you can always graft it with a known variety. I plant many guava seeds to experiment.

@@growpuravida Do you know anything about mexican cream Guavas. I am trying to grow them from seed. They are supposed to be sweet. I hate the thought of growing something for a few years, and having it end up producing trash. I might try 'approach grafting' two of them together and leaving them connected to their rootstocks, so they will help each other out. Hopefully it will produce a vigorous tree.

I have never tasted a mexican cream but i heard they are very good tasting. The problem is that there are many variations and many sellers selling as mexican cream and they may not taste the same. Variation will be there from seed grown plants as well.

It would be helpful to mention if you use self amalgamating tape (which is what I have had sucess with ) or sticky tape both are electrical tape.
