I’m waiting on the Ranger body to frame re assembly with all the brake lines, fuel lines, steering column, electrical harness. Etc. I’m doing the same to a 1990 Bronco II.

To clean up aluminum cases and such, I really like soda blasting. It cleans without being abrasive. You could start with a cheap siphon blaster, or go with a dedicated soda machine. For just cleaning the siphon blaster will work. For media, you just go to a farm supply store like Tractor Supply and get a 50 lb bag of sodium bi-carb. It is used as a buffer in livestock feed.

Also, I dig edits where one conversation topic is continued during different tasks over the course of time. Kind of like in movies where they plan a heist. Or in the movie Hot Rod when they were planning the fundraiser event while at work. Real life is like that too where sometimes you have to pick up a conversation after an interruption.

Sarah, apologies if the video just does not show it right as I know you are an engineer with a serious bit of experience, but you are not supposed to have the sway bar bolted to the frame so snug that it will not move in the bushing at all. It has to be snug enough so that you cannot turn it by hand but not so hard that the suspension move would not be able to twist it in the bushings. That is also why the polyurethane or delrin bushings have to be lubed with the correct lube.
It is the torsion of the whole bar, end to end, that is the working with the suspension. Not just the bit between the hub and the mounting point.
I am otherwise a fan of your struggles and happy to watch your long and successful road to results. You are a beacon of robust quality in a world of half-cooked instant satisfaction.

Even as a disabled person, I try to keep my 2017 Fusion always looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Having it ceramic coated when I first bought it definitely helps. Great video as always! ♿️

Hey Sarah, being from central Pa. and not only do they use road salt they also use frack water (uber salt laden).
My last 4 cars had NO additional if any rust upon trading them than they had when i aquired them. There are car washes that power spray underneath when entering. They are open during all but the coldest days (sub zero). Once every 3 weeks worked for de-salting and rust prevention.
It just take a plan 😉.

Sarah, you're confirming how yanking the engine and drivetrain out is the only way to do a decent cleaning on the engine bay and underside. Did a stellar job, and there has got to be two or three dozen hours not on the final cut to get things as clean as they are. Now... that transmission... back when I had to swap one into a prior mk4 Jetta, I had access at work, to a hot tank washer (that could fit six 55ga drums inside). Put my new to the car donor transmission in it for about 15-20 minutes while I was hosing down the shop at the end of the day, and it got as clean as a whistle. Or, at least, degreased and as cleaner than pressure washing or hand-cleaning. Those transmissions are really, REALLY hard to clean up well any other way.
Sarah your are the queen of quirk. I know less than schlitz about modern cars and after watching so many hours of your videos I still know less than schlitz but your are an absolute riot to watch do your magic.

Here in Denmark the roads are salted so often during the (very wet) winter half of the year, that almost all cars are given additional rust protection by their owners several times during the car's lifetime. Otherwise even premium cars will have severe rust damage after only a couple of years on the road, while cheaper cars might be total write offs if not protected.
TT cleaned , Sarah sorta happy with the cleaning , person who wins this TT, gets a very nice TT. It coulda ended up in an episode of Storage Wars !

The car looks great, a huge improvement over where it was, dont be so hard on yourself. And to possibly help with the mosquito problem, they make screens for garage doors that have magnetic closures in the middle, makes it much harder for things like biting and stinging insects to come in while your working. Course you would want to put them on some form of rail so you can open them fully to allow for cars to pass through. Even harbor freight sells them.

The VW-Audi group uses galvanised sheet metal as standard in all their models, and specially in Audi also massively anodized aluminium. So no wonder there is no corrosion in there. Additionally there are expansive seals inside the structural pipes made by the differente sheet metal parts which additionally prevent moisture from getting inside beyond certain points.
The "self-lubed" gaskets most probably are made of POM (Methylene polyoxide), which is used in all kind of mechanisms because of the very low friction coefficient.
I won't enroll for this... I wouldn't deserve this car :) keep up the amazing work ^^ love your 'show' :D

If you think that is disgusting then you would not want to see under my English TT, which is 21 years old. Mainly full or rust though... the salt on the road in the winter kills the cars. Absolutely loved this video....
They injected that wax in my VW. I live in FL, so when it would get hot in the summer, that stuff would ooze out the bottom of the doors.
I am not sure if I like your "planned" sense of humor or your impromptu reactions better, but with both of them, you are hella entertaining.
Just a heads up.. Not sure if you read new comments on old videos, but you can remove rust stains from paint, bare metal, and chrome with denatured alcohol and a rag. (This is in reference to the rust stains on the transmission)
Once you get a new pressure washer, you should look into an undercarriage sprayer/water broom attachment. I drive on salty roads and I SWEAR by mine. It's basically just a bar on two wheels with nozzels pointing straight up so you can roll it underneath but it's lifesaver getting under cars.
If you hook up a bottle of Is moratic acid to the feed tube on the pressure washer like you would soap that won't wash all that off the transmission or illuminum stuff to make a look brand new. Make sure you wear a mask and wash thoroughly when done.

For your pressure washer if you hold the reset button and squeeze the trigger at the same time it should come on.
As fun as it would be to drive a car like this, especially with all the upgrades, I'm not going to try to win it since New England winters would just destroy it. And there's no way I could keep it even 1/10th as clean as it's going to be when it's done. I hope whoever does win it truly appreciates all the work you've put into it and does their best to keep it spotless.

A 20 years old car with lots of wax against corosion, cleaned by Sarah, might be cleaner than a new car rolling out of the factory.

Sarah TT will be better than new... who every wins will be lucky... I had serious OCD too and used to wax under the hood and truck lid, as well as clean the under carriage of my car... Then went to college and carrier took me away from the car. I used to do my own repairs, and now work full time for same location Monday -Saturday minimum 10 hours a day.... therefore, brand new vehicles with warranties. Great series on the TT
I replaced 2 simple splash guards on my car, yesterday. A job that likely could have been done in about 30 minutes. Yet I dragged it out for 4 hours, including cleaning inside the wheel wells - under the car bottom - and all 4 wheels off, to completely clean the grime and brake dust..
I'm a neat freak at the best of times... but Sarah's ways, are rubbing off on me!
Hey Sarah, I will be one of those people who drive it through the snow (I live in Upstate NY) so won't attempt to enter the contest, there's no need to mess up a perrty car (yes I spelled that wrong on purpose) after you've done all that work. And yes, I get why you're cleaning TT from top to underneath... thanks for all you do, enjoy watching and laughing.
Dry ice blasting maybe? Some places offer mobile service. Could help with cleaning up that gearbox. They do a great job cleaning the whole undersides of cars.
