I currently have the resound omnia 9 with disposable size 13 batteries. Interestingly, the batteries last 10 days, which is the same as the battery life on my previous hearing aids from Phonak, which also used size 13 batteries. The battery life also did not seem to change even if I spent more time with the hearing aids turned on or streaming stuff. I believe that my battery life is currently limited by the chemical reaction that goes on with zinc air batteries. To test this idea, I tried putting the orange sticker back on the battery at night while I sleep (covering the air hole). And voila, my battery life got extended by several more days. I am a big fan of disposable batteries because if I run out of battery (which would take 10 days), I can instantly have a freshly charged battery by putting in a new one. Or if I forgot to bring my spare batteries, any drugstore would carry the batteries. In contrast, if I had a rechargeable hearing aid and I forgot to charge it, I'm out of luck. Same if I went on a trip and forgot to bring the charger. Same if the batteries started losing their capacity because they've been through too many charge/discharge cycles. I really believe that disposable batteries are the way to go, and a 48-pack from Costco is only $8, and would last me 240 days (assuming 2 batteries every 10 days)

With astounding battery life like that why on earth do manufacturers insist on making rechargeable hearing aids with less than 24 hours battery life? I'm a 3¾ year user of Resound rechargeable and wish I had known that disposables were the better buy.

    • @twincams350
      @twincams350 8 месяцев назад +1

I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I believe the manufacturers are pushing rechargeables because of their expected service life of around 3 or 4 years. That’s how long my smartphones and laptops last before the battery capacity starts dropping. So after 3 or 4 years, you are forced to get new hearing aids or pay to have the batteries replaced.

I agree. I am in the market for a new hearing aid. The first pair I had was with disposable batteries and I was talked into the rechargeable ones with the 2nd set. All the problems you have described are true and have been driving me crazy. I will get disposable batteries this time.

3 dB increase in power level of a signal is double the power of the original signal. 4 dB is approx a 151% increase. I'm pretty sure that's how they came up with the 150% number.

Thank you for a comprehensive review of the Nexia. Your knowledge of the hearing aid’s technology is so valuable for the customers and we are fortunate to have you advocating for the hearing loss. I have just received a new Nexia a couple weeks ago go and I am struggling with it. 1) the ear moles are uncomfortable, and very hard to remove also sound tinny and occluded. 2) the app is not easy to use and kept switching to a different program. 3) a double tap to answer phone is not working. 4) the wire is too long that is not flushing in the ear and it is very ugly. If you can advise is much appreciated. I am seeing a Hearing Up Net Work Audiologist. Thank you

I am thinking about getting a pair of these. I know that my hearing isn't great and a hearing test shows moderate loss above 2500hz. I just so happened to try the Adapt Sound feature on my Samsung phone and the improvement listening to my music collection is incredible. It was like taking cloths out of my ears. So I am now very keen to try out some hearing aids.

Have had Nexia 9s for about a month and generally happy. I stream a lot, like all day. I seriously hate the handoff to the iPhone to answer a phone call. First, I get a chirp (like a program change) ahead of the actual phone ring. When I answer, the aids are dead for the first second or two. After complaining, my audiologist reached out to Resound, who confirmed this had been and issue since the Quattros. What! My old Resounds (circa 2014) never had this problem.

Glad to hear you've experienced issue with the Samsung S23 Ultra and Resound One HA. I've pulled my hair out trying to stream phone calls reliably. Streamed to one HA or the other, never to both. Streaming volume is limited and too low to hear while driving. I sent my phone into Samsung for analysis and there were no issues diagnosed. Local HA shop said my Resound HA's were the issue and tried to sell me on the new Oticon Real HA, but the streaming problem was the same on this newer model HA. The Resound One streamed well with a 5 year old iPhone. Looking at the Nexia for I still struggle with tinnitus in my right ear and severe hearing loss in my right ear. Background noises, i.e., restaurants, driving, etc. are almost impossible listening environments for me. Hoping the Nexia may give me the technology I need. Thank you Cliff for your videos!

@@jeasalb ..I had an update on my phone and HA's too. What do you now the streaming started working fine. Although, there still has been a couple of glitches..but much better. I think one of the updates or maybe both was the key. HA technician change one of my receivers; was too weak for my hearing loss. Things are better but ot optimal.. Still have struggles in the noisy environments. Found that manual adjustments work better then the presets. Have to be satisfied for now..don't have that $$ to try others.

Great video. I guess I’m safe from wanting replacement hearing aids for awhile. There are a couple of features that available on certain devices now but it would involve upgrading both my Apple Watch and iPhone. I have the Apple products i have because i like the placement of the buttons. And when is there going to be a more exciting choice of colors? Pediatric hearing aids come in many different colors and i think they should be available to everyone. I think i can wait until Auracast is widely available to research a new set of hearing aids.

I stream quite a bit and use disposable batteries because I didn’t like the rechargeable battery ones because my hearing aids were dead by 8:00 pm and I but them on at about 6:45-7:15 am everyday. I am 76 years old and have had four sets of hearing aids since I was about 55 years old.

Hello there. I just got equipped a few weeks ago with Resound Nexia. I am using an iphone 15 and I am happy with most of the product features. The streaming sound quality is average but OK for open audio device. However I have noticed a real degraded quality for phone calls with a lot of distortion (that is not present for other multimedia streaming). I am still in the trial phase and I am now considering evaluating another device because of this issue which remains unexplained for Resound support in France but is not acceptable in this price range... Have you heard of any similar issue by other users?

My hearing lady called Resound and was on the phone and turned off the microphone feature!! Did not even know about that but so glad that got turned off! Everyone says I sound normal now! I am having a very hard time in restaurants though!! So bad that I may end up trying Oticon if we can not get this worked out! I have only worn Resound hearing aids. But something is definitely different about this pair. It said you could hear better in noisy situations but not working for me. I have a 30 day trial but giving it 2 weeks then trying Oticon. Hope you get yours

I've been having the single hearing aid streaming issue with my galaxy S22 ultra as well. But using the phone clip fixes this issue.

Huge issue with 3D app. Hearing aids disconnect from app unless app is open and on screen. If I swipe to another app, aids again disconnect. If the app is not visible, the watch app will not activate. I know of no other app for iPhone that works this way. Resound is of absolutely no help. Reconnecting takes 7-20 seconds.

@@DrCliffAuD I just got finished a trial on the Resound Nexia 9. I have been using Oticon OpnS2 for last 4 years. I was having trouble with some speech recognition. My right ear is 75% recognition and my left ear 35% recognition. The new Resound aids were set up with real ear measurements. This is my experience with these aids. Feedback was terrible. I had to change a lot of settings to get that to stop. Pretty much had to lower all Bass, Meds, Treble very low to stop it. That probably didn’t help my word recognition. I personally think the great idea of the mic in the receiver is causing that problem. Great idea though. Actually I saw no big difference in the Resound aids then I do my Oticon OpNS2 aids. Big difference definitely is the great app and the great Bluetooth sound. Samsung phone user so on the phone no use just IPad. Still looking for a way to get these Oticon OpNS2 aids to give me just a little more sound recognition ( ear molds did not work for me. I think the Oticon molds were just not that well made). You have any ideas for that speech recognition I have that will help?

As someone relatively new to hearing aids, my first and only set are Resound Linx Quattro 961 rechargables.
I've had them for 3¾ years and would say that Resounds 30 hour battery life claim (24 hours while streaming) is likely to be way off the real world mark and is likely to depend totally on how much work the hearing aid is having to do to match one's prescription.
I have never ever achieved what is essentially a 2 day charge life from my hearing aids. In fact I've had to return them for manufacturer repair under the warranty at least once per year because of a gradual decline in rechargeable battery life to 12 hours or less, streaming or not, within 6 months of the previous repair.
    I have a question
How can users of rechargeable battery powered hearing aids prolong their has daily charge life?

A person with serious hearing loss will have a more occluded ear, due to the ear mold, and this point becomes even more important.

Yeah and so. A colleague of mine, Frank. He ended up with a profound hearing loss. And about 20 years ago. Frank got himself a pair of, Computer Controlled, hearing aids. For around $6000. And Frank a musician. Then fancied himself an, Audio Engineer. But I said, Frank. You are profoundly deaf. How the hell are you going to be, an audio engineer? You are profoundly deaf.
He then went on to tell me. These newfangled hearing aids. Gives him, perfect hearing. I said yeah but Frank you are deaf. Who the hell wants a deaf, Audio Engineer? He says yeah but these are $6000 worth of hearing aids. And they give him perfect hearing. Yeah.. As a deaf person.
So I never really thought of Frank as an actual Audio Engineer. He was profoundly deaf. And that gave me a great idea!
And so. Some of these hearing aid companies. Would provide for you.. A, faux hearing aid for free. And I thought. I would get a couple of those.
And before I start a Recording Session with, Musicians. I will begin the session. By obviously, removing my hearing aids first! In front of them. And make certain they see that. And tell them I am now ready! To record them. And I would only do it for the laugh. As I think that would be very funny. Then you know you're going to get a great recording. Because your recording engineer is profoundly deaf. LMAO. And you will have a new pop hit record. Because I really didn't need to listen to it. It was only rock 'n' roll. And I just want them to feel comfortable with me. Knowing I was as deaf as they were. LOL.
I can't imagine what it's like to have really crummy hearing? My hearing is beyond, acute. I SAID MY HEARING IS BEYOND CUTE! AND SO AM I! CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? HELLO? HAS YOUR BATTERY GONE DEAD ALREADY? HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
This is what happens when you build Verizon into your hearing aids. Or maybe T-Mobile? AT&T?

Can I get some clarification regarding the 16 hour croc feature please. Is that 16 hour reference for the receiver (non aid) battery life or both devices when using that feature?

It most likely would have been both remember one is a transmitter while the other is an actual hearing aid and streaming is usually mono on the cros system

I have the Nexia 7. Need a complete guide on pairing with multiple devices. Just trying to pair with iPad, iPhone & Mac is not working well at all…. And I have many years of computer experience. Their website doesn’t cover this topic very well either. In general the streaming quality is mediocre.

The hearing aids have to be capable via hardware and software. If they don't have the hardware, then it won't be possible with software. If they do have the hardware, then a software/firmware update may be required to activate Auracast in some hearing aids.

Here's another thing you have not yet noticed due to your profound hearing loss. A few years back. Your scrotum dropped. I think? And with that. So too can your voice.
But with your profound hearing loss. You are still trying to speak at the pitch you were at when you were 13. And your voice was a bit higher. Before your scrotum, dropped. Along with your larynx. That makes the sound out of your face hole. You don't need to speak at the pitch you were at at 13. Anymore.
It's kind of funny because a lot of deaf people. Speak at a very low, tonality. Because they can then feel there chest resonance, buzzing. And they know they are producing sound. They cannot hear, themselves. So they don't usually pitch up. The pitch, down. Even the women do that. What happened to you Dr. Cliff? Was it an, Explosion or something? I drove by an explosion one day. I couldn't here for about 30 minutes.. I felt shellshocked. I had to stop my car sit and come back to my senses again. When this Power Transformer blew up. As I was driving by it one night. The whole building caught fire. 175,000 people were put into the dark. It made the news. And nearly knocked my Chevy van over. As I was driving by it. So I did not much care for that.. And my hearing was screwed for a little while. But it came back. Mostly, I think? That was not fun. I don't like loud noises like that. I don't like KISS. They can, KISS-Off! For all I care! They were miserable and Bogus! Ugh!
Yeah and so I did not attend, Concerts, like those. Because I valued my hearing. That's why God invented records! Good thing I'm also an atheist.. Because Jesus does not watch, your hearing. Jesus was deaf! As Jesus had been in a band of rocks. When he was tied to that Crucifix Contract. I think? He probably got a lot of rocks? And he rolled on out of there shortly after. That's how rock and roll came to be. More than 2000 years ago. He invented it.. And PA Systems, later. That were louder than Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ they were loud! Jesus they are loud! And he didn't turn it down any. So he's deaf.
So Dr. Cliff you're not the only one who is deaf. Obviously Jesus was also. I'm not. I can hear!
Oh my God! I can hear!
